middle school is insane
I remember when I first got this in jazz as a trombone. I had to sightread it and struggled so much at that trombone melody part, but I really grew from this.
im on 3rd, and i js got this music... im terrified 😭
Did you eventually learn how to play it? I might have literally cried when I saw the music for the first time. I get freaked out by 8th notes and accidentals all the time.@@cinderella.6615
Im a freshman playing first trombone and boy wish me luck
just played this lastnight for my highschools red jazz. bass is fun

Hello, Trevor. This is Mike Lewis. Thanks for your comments. Not only did I arrange this, the composition is also mine. It is named after my grandaughter, Hayley. Cheers.
Pretty sure my state district’s jazz band plays a Kris Berg song every year, I think they played The Chicken last year, and we’re playing this one this year.
Love Kris Berg and his vast array of chicken themed funk songs
Sounds awful like Mingo fishtraps In the bank
That's what I thought...not sure which came first...the chicken or the bank. I dig it though...we need more Mingo for jazz band!
3:48 is the best part of the song
I agree! Took me a while to figure out (only been playing tenor sax for like three weeks), but once I got it it’s so fun
i learned two things in 8th grade jazz band: how to play a swing beat, and how to play the hell out of this song on the congas
Reminds me of the chicken
Learning this on bass for jazz band, wish me luck.
i wish you the best of luck man! this is not EZ !
fellow bassist here, am doing a solo for this song at a high school jazz festival! and i can confirm: this is NOT easy.
@@dillpickle07I’m not in high school anymore, still can’t hardly play this song.
I can't believe this song isn't on spotify. Won jazz competitions in high school with this song.
I’m learning this song right now and I get that FHAT bari sound
Coke.
Just got handed it today, I’m in love 😂
ua-cam.com/video/XF7nwCjkbZA/v-deo.html. this is a solo I composed for a student playing this piece in a school Big Band.
I got a solo whoo hoo!
what if i added blast beats?
I'd like to see that :o
Man playing drums on this is so fun!
it was our favorite song to my drummer, my pianist and i ! We had so much fun playing this song together! Thank you for your comment btw! I haven't listen to this song in months!
Put it on x0.8 or x0.75 for FONK
Fonk
Even x0.5 at that.
My highschool band played this, I was too scared to play the lead sax part back then now I regretted🥺
we played it in high school too! I was a bassist, i loooved this song! even though the bass line is pretty EZ, i enjoyed listening to it :p You should not regret the fact that you haven't play the lead part tho ;)
I saw him perform yesterday at northwest jazz festival in Powell wyoming. We even got to ask him questions. My friend got to ask him questions about all his chicken charts and we got to learn the back story to why he has so many chicken songs. It was an amazing experience to hear him play. One of the most incredible musicians even. It was an honor to hear him play. He will always be one of my favorite musicians.
what was the back story??
We need to know!!!
WHAT WAS THE BACKSTORY
PLEASE
What's up with Kris Berg and Chickens?
berg sounds like bird lol
I’m pretty sure it was a running joke. The chicken, tastes like chicken and fowl play were all based off each other in some way or the other, I’m pretty sure.
I asked him once and the answer is still unclear.
When listening to funk songs your head bops back and forth like a chicken
BROTHER WE'RE LEARNING THIS IN JAZZ BAND NOOWWWWW
Brings me back to High School jazz band. This was our staple chart over 3-4 years.
We played this at a performance for jazz.
Hope it was good :D
I’m going to play it at a jazz concert called jazz n cakes
I'm just now learning it for a Jazz Concert! I play the piano!
i played bass on this 10th grade in jazz band on bass guitar. shits groovy af
I'm also learning this for a jazz concert on trombone (7th grade)
Who’s the tenor sax damn
Tunescribers has created sheet music for this, you can find it here: www.tunescribers.com/2980/more-work-samples/fowl-play-alto-sax-solo
I've never seen someone play a black saxophone. Like, you would think that over the years people would recognize that Mike Lewis is actually not a black man but instead, he is the perfect image of a saxophone player. What's troubling to me is that the sunset in the background doesn't really mean anything. In my years at the police station of Brooklyn, I've never look at a black figure of a man. I agree. I got to play this on tenor with my schools jazz band
Glad I get to play this part in my jazz band :-)
I'm currently playing as a trumpet and its hard hell.
😔👌
Hey
nice
My favorite part is the mean section (after the solos). :)
yeah same! i've played it so much times and my fav part is still this one haha
LOL its amazing.
@@somesinner2177 My absolute favorite as well. Just me the 4th trombone (choice for both years, this song is seriously the only reason I still played 4th. Moving to first this year :/) and the bari sax player just had so fun of a time with that part.
I love this song so much and i am in the eight grade and i play the bass where my basses at y'all.
same bro
Listened to this in the bunker with the boys back in the golden days.
Okay, so. I got a bass trombone solo on here and I am absolutely stressing out over it. Does anybody have any tips/help they can give to make it not suck?
I'm not a pro in solo and even not in trombone, but dont strees about it, try to improvise in F major and get a nice beat a little bit similar to the bass one! Or maybe you can do a solo like this one on the video :P
Wow super game play j'adore! Tu a build quoi sur ce magnifique perso? :)
No bari?
*_-MR. ORANGES-_* no, really only alto, bass and tener are needed, bari is for anything between that, and there are very few parts for jazzy songs. more latin songs like this though
Playing this at the Purdue Jazz Fest tomorrow :-)
I wish you good luck bud! :D
I'm in one of the Purdue jazz bands and we're currently playing this. It's a great piece
feel the beat. yes!! im a drum kid and i can define these fills as magnificence in its true form
bass bone for me
I get to play this on piano for jazz band! I love this so much.
I know how you feel! I hope you'll have fun as i had while i played it with my jazz band! Be free to share it with your mates :)!
