If you're new to loom knitting, you may not be familiar with some of the techniques you are hearing or reading about for your projects.
This quick video will provide visual instruction and help you learn how to successfully complete the double e-wrap cast-on on a round loom. I briefly mention some troubleshooting if you find yourself having trouble knitting the loops off of the pegs.
This cast-on method is low difficulty so it is beginner friendly! It may or may not take you a few attempts to get the hang of it. If you don't catch on right away, it's okay! Don't give up. You can do this!
I really want to help you be successful at this new craft, so please feel free to start a conversation in the comments and I may be able to offer some advice.
To work along with this video, you will need:
-Round Loom (any number of pegs is will work)
-A yarn hook
-Yarn (the size of the yarn will depend on if you have a small or large gauge loom. I am using a large gauge loom and a #6 bulky yarn.)

I knit and crochet but still have a loom. You can put it down and pick it up anytime and not worry about dropped stitches or forgetting where you are. I use it a lot for charity hats as it's quite relaxing. 😊

Not sure this is a beginner tutorial . I just learned loom knitting and for sure this wasn’t the easiest way for learning as there are so many different rows with the e wrap , u wrap , Pearl , garter etc . There’s much easier ways to make hats that look almost the same . Good video but definitely not a beginner one in my opinion

Great video. Your demonstration really helped in locating the loop to pull over the peg when starting the brim. Also, I liked the fact you hid the original slip knot loop after completing the brim. THAT makes it a lot easier when finishing the hat! Thank you!!!

Is this just decorative. I see others use the pearl stitch when they are making more “elastic”!projects. Is this a more elastic stitch or is it just decorative? Or does it help to fill in the spaces between stitches. Why would you use this over a simple e wrap? Thanks

    • @theragingloomatic
      @theragingloomatic Рік тому

In my own experience, I don't use the purl stitch in place of an ewrap. Anytime I use purls, it is to complete a stitch pattern with another stitch. For example, to do a garter stitch on a project like a hat, I could alternate rows of ewraps and purls. So I would say a purl is just a part of the design aspect. Different stitch patterns will yield different results on your finished projects. To create a rib stitch, you alternate between ewrap and purls on every other peg. As for making it more "elastic"....I can't really say one way or the other. I haven't really taken notice to that. But now you have me wondering🤔 I'm going to have to pay more attention to that. Also, purls are a pretty simple stitch to learn. So for beginners, I think it's just one of the next steps to learning how to knit on a loom. I hope this helps😊

Wow I’ve never seen anyone do that final step on the brim of taking out the slack but that’s a great idea. I prefer a hat that isn’t doubled over on the brim but I don’t know how to make the edge lay flat and tight this may be the solution I needed. Thanks

It's pretty simple but there is a little bit of a learning curve....at least for me. Obviously I still get a little tangled up sometimes. Just have to take your time. My problem with this one in particular was that I got the fibers of my yarn a little tangled in my cast on row. So definitely be mindful of making sure your cast on is good.

May I suggest one thing. I have watched many different channels on loom knitting and what no one seems to mention and what I really want to know is the why. Why would you use this cast on vrs a different style of cast on. For example I see people generally using this cast on when the are making a brimmed hat or a cowl because it creates noticeable loops that are easy to find when you go to connect that first row back onto the loom latter. If you can add the why one meathod is better than another or when something is purely decorative over functional you would be setting yourself apart from all the other sites. Thank you for all you do though. And keep it up I think you’re doing great.

Can I use 2 strands of #4 yarn or will the hat be loose

I haven't done that myself with this pattern but I don't see it being a problem. I would personally do it without and fear of it being loose.

In this video, I accidentally call the cast-on the "e-wrap cast on." I meant to explain that the first row of the cast-on is an e-wrap, followed by the u-wrap to finish the cast on.
