Surf Runner 25 Power Boat Hull Flip
Video documents how we flipped the Sam Devlin designed Surf Runner 25 foot power boat that I'm building at home. The hull was built with a stitch and glue method, upside-down, on the building frame. After completely finishing the hull to the point of priming and painting the bottom, it was time to flip it right-side-up, to finish the inside. Will paint the hull sides later. Estimated weight is 1500 lbs.
The main goal for flipping this boat was to not hurt anyone, nor to have anybody exert excessive physical effort. Next, to not hurt the boat, nor the garage. And finally, to have the boat end of level fore-and-aft, and side-to-side. This was a trick as the garage floor is not level. The hull was level to waterline prior to flip. Also, there is not room in this garage to roll the boat over on the ground, and I didn't want to drag it outside to roll it over either.
There are a few minor things I'd do differently next time, but overall it went quite smoothly and all goals were accomplished. Now to get on with finishing the boat. :-)
The build is photo-documented here: brownz.com/surf-runner-construction-blog/
I hope this helps some future boat-flippers. Sure wish I had this video before I started thinking about how to flip this boat!
