I've bin researching the Violator sound and it comes down to the Emulator 3 for most samples, the Akai s1000 for drums cause they triggered faster according to Wilder, the System 700 for a lot of the bass layered with midimoog/minimoog. The board was an 80s Calrec with ICs, I believe the UA8000. Like the one Abba had at Polar studios. Mixing was done on an SSL 4000 series. All the tracks went to an Otari MTR 90 tape recorder, very clean not like Studer. Reverbs a lot of lexicon 224 and 480. Sequencer was the Atari computer. I believe Alan also used the Manley amps for distorting things.

I’ve only been following this band since 2022, but as much as I love them and their music, I have to agree: the band was at their artistic and mind-blowing best, indeed, when their lineup was comprised of Gahan/Gore/Fletcher/Wilder. End of discussion.

seams daniel has said he thought the mix should of been less polished so asked the band if he could go off and redo the mix with phill legg they then used that version on the album as they were all burnt out by that stage they just went with it according to Daniel

It definitely has a DM vibe, sounds very much like Dave Gahan, but the lyrics are broken - not something Martin Gore would pen.

25:35 that specific sound, just before the "just so I can call again" and the "just so I can pray again", that "heavenly" little chord, it´s the one and only sound that triggers my memories from the Devotional Tour concerts that I went back in 1993 here in Mexico City. Sends shivers to my spine every time.

12:20 that yelling part "The mercy iiin youuuuuuuuu" was performed by Dave, not Martin, which gives more points to the feeling, it´s like Dave was crying for mercy, a very symbolic fact.

My favourite track on SOFAD, second to Get Right With Me. Love all the singles too but dig the quirky ones more :)
