How much is a restore of one of these generally?

There isn't really an answer to this question - it very much depends on exactly what needs doing - and whether you have the skills to do it, or you need to pay someone else to do it. Replacement parts for vintage moogs are increasingly expensive to find. I'm just finishing off a Moog MG-1. The parts alone (new caps + new faders + foam + a couple of IC's) came to about $300. Add another $50-$70 for other cleaning products, e.g. deoxit/isopropyl etc. If you're paying someone to do it, this refurb took me about 8 days of full labour (YMMV - this one was in particularly terrible shape, with a lot of problems). If you're doing it yourself, you're going to need soldering iron, multimeter, and an oscilloscope at a minimum (as well as knowledge of how to diagnose electrical faults). So a repair cost could be super cheap, or it could be painfully expensive. There isn't a general answer, it very much depends on the synth in question, whether its fully working to begin with, and if not, which parts are not working!

Have you ever run your finger across the glass display? It will cut you. That's one of my memories of this synth, plus, it had some great, multi-timbral sounds.

I love my TQ5. Look at how amazing it looks in your video too - wonderful 80's design with the offset slashed square, the little black switches and that Guggenheim volume control. It's like an amazing sonic cake!

I can help. On the bottom and the back of the unit or Phillips screws that you removed and the bottom comes off. Once you do that the battery can be replaced one caveat though, it's soldered to the board. What I did was used a CR2032 battery holder from an old motherboard. Hot glued it to an empty space and soldered the terminals to the board. Make sure you wire it using the right polarity. Work like a charm. I lost all my Custom Sounds, but luckily I found them on an old floppy I used the program called midi Ox to reload them.

Cool sounds. Just got a TQ5, do you know if there is anyway to loop the sequencer? Read the manual back to back, doesn't seem to be, but seems odd no to be able to loop!

No loop on the sequencer. That's just the way it was back then.

I hand built and designed it from the ground up. They can be purchased from Motor City Guitar in Waterford Michigan or directly from me (Vertical Amplifiers). It also works great for heavy metal rhythm tracks with different amplifiers. Email for inquire: vertamps@gmail.com -Will
