Welcome to Readgab!
Every week I recommend children's books for parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, and anyone else who wants to find some great books to share with the kids in their lives (or to read themselves)
I recommend a variety of levels & genres
-Picture books from board books to upper elementary books
-Chapter books that range from the earliest readers to Young Adult and everything in between
Book Huddle is a regular podcast on my channel where I bring on a guest who shares about what they do and then shares one of their favorite children's books
Check out my playlists for leveled recommendations, different genres, and movies based on books
I generally give spoilers and often share the ending of picture books, but I will avoid spoilers in chapter books to the best of my ability.
My name is Karen. I used to teach 6th grade and now I enjoy raising my kids and reading lots of books whenever we aren't having adventures! We live in Virginia with our 2 cats and dog

Hello , You are making amazing videos I noticed your UA-cam channel and you're doing great! I have seen all your videos and your content qualities are excellent but still it is not delivering the right audience due to SEO problems. Focusing on your SEO to get a big fanbase would be best. I have some ideas on how to boost your audience and engagement. Would you like to talk about it for a while? Let's talk and I'll share my strategies with you.
Great interview ❤
Thanks!
What is your favorite book to read out loud to a child?
It took me a while to like graphic novels. Some of them are good. It's still taking me a little while. You will do your best for your kid's. I do like your channel. Keep up the good work. 😮
Thanks! I definitely enjoy a lot of graphic novels better than others. But I guess it is that way with any genre.
What is a great new book that you've read this year?
Amari and the Despicable Wonders. Another that isn't new that I just finished reading is Serafina and the Black Cloak.
@@ColaBreak awesome! I read the first Amari, but haven't found time to get to others in the series. And I haven't read Serafina either. How did you like them?
@@readgab they are my new favorites! I'm already starting book 2 of Serafina books and I'm hooked!
@@ColaBreak I will add Serafina to my TBR list now :)
Great recommendations for the start of the school year ✨☺️
Thanks! I am loving all of these new books!!
Do you have pets? What kind?
I haven’t seen the Beware book yet but it looks perfect, thanks for showing this one.
I’m a little more than half way through it now and loving it 😃
What is a new book coming out in the next year that you are looking forward to?
Interesting and important topic
Thanks!
What is your child's favorite genre to read? What is yours?
Your book wall is looking fab ✨💜
Thanks!!

Thanks!
What is a new book you received or got yourself recently?
I love that you’re creating this reading series. Thank you 💜
Thanks. I'm hoping it will help other adults feel empowered that they can teach their kids to read.
What type of videos do you need for teaching a child to read? How to's? Games? Resources? Etc? Let me know and I'll try to include it in the series.
What book are you reading this summer?
What are you reading this summer?
When you need to pull some 'happy' from your 'bucket,' what is it that you love to do?
I just started to read the book I maybe 27 but the way I grew up there's a lot of things I can't exactly read understand or know I like the book is this much as I like the movie
That was an excellent interview and review, thank you.
Thanks for watching 😃

Have you ever heard of the Metis people? I hope you'll share this beautiful book with the kids in your life.
How appropriate is this book? Our daughter just turned 10 and just got into reading wich we are thrilled by, but we want to make sure what she reads is appropriate. We are very strict about what she can watch/read and dont want her watching or reading anything innapropriate. Anything with violence, sex, swearing, drugs or dark themes is not allowed and the good guys have to win in the end. Also, how scary is the scary stuff in this book? She cant handle anything scarier than scooby doo level of scary. This book sounds like so much fun but aslo like it might be too scary, and we of course want to make sure its appropriate for her before we let her read it.
Hey, I'm so glad you reached out and asked and gave such great examples of what you don't want. This might not be the book for her right now. If I remember right, there is light language, though I can't remember specific examples. The good guys do win. I would compare the level of violence and darkness to the first few Harry Potter books and the sequel is more comparable to the 5th HP book. I would love to help you find a better fit. Is she looking for fantasy? What are her interests? I would try The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates Magic Marks the Spot by Caroline Carlson, Solimar by Pam Munoz Ryan, the Double Trouble Society by Carrie Hope Fletcher. If you want to let me know books she enjoys, genres, or interests I would be happy to come up with some more ideas.
I talk about The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates in this video ua-cam.com/video/tpIYJKyywPY/v-deo.htmlsi=8V3vDgGvQ8Q4DxOU you can skip to the chapter 01:44.
@@readgabIf the second book is as violent as the fifth HP book then this definitely does not sound appropriate for her, we dont want her reading any violence, and it sounds like this book would be too scary for her to, so we wont let her read this. That's so sweet of you to offer to help us find books she will like, yes she LOVES fantasy, she loves anything with lots of magic and adventure so any books with that are ideal.
@@readgab We will definitely check out the other books you mentioned!
