You in Zone 8b or 9a? Got a lot of tropicals this year and i'm weighing between potting or putting them(on an individual basis) in ground(8a)
With the change of the zones, I was a 8b but now I’m a 9a. I looked at the detail of the map and across the street is still 8b lol. Where are you located?
@ zone 8a South Carolina, i did just build a small greenhouse for them, though still gets down to 50 degrees
I’m growing artichokes at 7,000 feet above sea level in Colombia!
Nice! That’s awesome! I bet it’s beautiful there.
Good job!
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you as well.
I hope you guys have a great Christmas
wow that's a long process, I pay a service 200 dollars for every trailer I build, and that gets me a title and vin, good for all 50 states then i just take it to the dmv and I'm done
I had no idea, just trying to help others
@@FlomatonFamous you made a great vid, sorry its so difficult to get it registered
My friends property parents built their house while planting many varieties of plants. They have yellow, pink and white Angel Trumpets plants that are under 12 feet tall. They always smell amazing.
Sounds like they have a wonderful collection!
@@FlomatonFamous , Yet I wonder if they come in other colors? Definitely a great looking fascinating plant that smells great.

How old are most of these figs in your orchard
Most were a year old before they were planted. We planted the orchard almost 2 years ago in February
Good morning, hope all is well. would you be able to donate a few of your two figs plants cuttings to a disabled army veteran with Parkinson. I'm in Florida. let me know your comments and keep those nice video lessons coming, may God blees you in all your activities.
Hi bob, where are you located, is there anything in particular that you are looking for? I've already cut all of my trees for the year. I'm not sure what I can put together.
I've bought yellow long necks, Hardy kiwis and other items from Brian inthe last year. Some of my fig trees are 4 or 5 ft in 12 months. Tim C zone 8a Trinity County ca.
That’s awesome! Great job!
@FlomatonFamous Interesting that you didn't use parafilm or dip the tops in wax like you did in another video. I take it you did not have an issue with them drying out? Also did you post a follow-up video on the results of the soy soap?
I learned from this video, afterwards I started waxing. No many of these survived. I counted it as a fail
Great Video, loved the information given by both of you. I live about 40 miles south east of Brian in Fresno.
Awesome! You must get a lot of figs down there!
My peters honey is four stalks.
Nice, I think it likes to spread out.
Why not use landscaping woven fabric? Go straight down your rows and mulch the drip ring. No more weed eating and extend soil temp. The woven fabric lets rain though.
I've thought about it, might do something like that.
Will lid shut when the handle is down?
yes, just not lock into place
Will you list tc fig(bm) again?
I tried rooting Dwarf Mulberry cuttings in potting soil and had a 100% failure rate. Then I stuck about 10 cuttings in average dirt near a tomato and a cucumber and 9 of them rooted.
Interesting, not surprised. Mulberry can be funny like that.
How do I get the actual Southern Brown Turkey or Eastern Brown Turkey fig tree that resembles a large Celeste fig and is famous for hardiness? The California Brown Turkey fig is delicious and tastes like very ripe peaches when grown during a drought in Louisiana but if it rains just once the fruits split in half for weeks. I can save them from spoiling with organza bags to keep the bugs out but I don`t want to keep doing this.
I have a few for sale. If interested email me. flomatonfamous@gmail.com
I got a bunch of small lightweight 8x10, 10x10, 12x10 etc tarps (easy to handle for one person) to cover blooming fruits trees & blackberries when we have late frosts in spring. This is particularly important with early bloomers like Prime Ark Freedom blackberries, stone fruit trees and fig trees coming out of dormancy here in Louisiana. I also use them in winter to wrap/cover fig trees and winter greens when we get Arctic blasts. Wireless thermometers are very useful to monitor real temperatures in your yard or under fruit tree coverings if using a heat source like LED lights or water in buckets containing low wattage water heaters under tarps/plastic. I have a collection of cheap no-name solar batteries for portable power. I grow my own food so I do whatever it takes to protect it.
Good stuff, the cold is my biggest battle, I'm using the bucket of water and bedsheet for mine.
I need to get some trees from terry
What are you looking for? Where are you located?
@@FlomatonFamous South Carolina, so similar climate. (was mostly commenting on him sending a full on tree to someone via air layering)
@ I gotcha lol
Keren, salam dari Indonesia 🔥
Welcome!
Sound like a lot of good knowledge maybe Robert and I will get to come. Thanks for sharing
That would be great! It would be good to see you guys again.
David is a real good Guy

My Tena Tissue Culture that was supposed to be a Black Madeira is 2 years old now and still hasn’t fruited! But it’s grown vigorously and so have the 2 varieties I grafted onto it this spring (DSJG and Pastiliere). And both of those HAVE fruited. I’m curious what Tena fruits are like, but I may graft over its last two branches next spring instead of waiting to see.
Those tissue culture figs can take a while to fruit, you might be surprised if you let it keep growing.
This gentleman has so much knowledge! I could listen to him speak all day.
I know right!
It looks like it would make a nice critter house for a grandbaby or neice/nephew if you ever needed another use!
I don't know if this applies for plant tissue work, but a mycologist said not to use bleach to sanitize because he's seen it cause some crazy genetic mutations and to stick to 70% isopropyl alcohol. I thought that I might just mention that in case. Thanks for easy build instructions.
I like the way you narrate and get to the point.
Thanks!
Great video. Do you do cleft grafting for pears during this time or before the buds break?
Just before bud break and even a month after bud break.
@FlomatonFamous good to know. We ended up grafting American Persimmons all the way to early August. Wasn't sure about pears. Thank you
I grow jimmy red our family loves it
Good stuff
What about Anchorseal to put on the cuttings? No need to warm up. Also, what to do with Fungus Gnats?
That probably works fine also. I don't have a problem with fungas gnats. You can cover the soil with perlite, that will help deture them.
@FlomatonFamous I've added an inch of perlite after I noticed them. Doesn't seem to deter the gnats. They just crawl under it & on top of it.
I already keep a biblically clean diet which coincidentally is the exact diet type o calls for. I'm upset about giving up coffee and Brussel sprouts.
That's awesome!
Beautiful plants, just remember that to the best of my knowledge all parts of the plant, flowers, and seeds are poisonous to people and pets.
Hell no red meat is bad for humans..fish and chicken are good
Hello Randell and Michelle this is Mary Awesome information thanks for sharing!! Love your new nursery Robert and I hope you all have a Happy thanksgiving!!
Hey! Great to hear from you, tell Robert I said hello.
Thank you for the tour! I’m in Cantonment and would be very interested in getting some scion wood from your shell apple
Sure, the tree is normally dormant in early Jan.
gosh oops another question: you didnt say why you use the powder over the gel. Is there a reason?
I believe the powder goes further than the gel. As far as watering, I ment to cover it in the video. I water about every other day during the hot days. Moist, not wet. I give them a sprinkle.
Question: do you have to water then with the hot days you still have?
Really great video. Love your thoroughness. Thanks for sharing. Looks wonderful over there. Some exciting stuff
Great video and info! Ive been interested in this one for a while but xant ever find one available. Do you have any cuttjngs or trees of this variety for sale?
I don't have any cuttings, but I should have one or two trees available soon. I plan to post it on Figbid.com
Very good technique with the wax to seal in the moisture for the cuttings. Can this be done with other hardwood tree and shrub cuttings besides figs? Also, do you leave the wax on the cutting permanently and the new growth pushes through the wax coating when it comes out of dormancy? Thank you.
Yes to everything lol
@@FlomatonFamous So we can use this 'wax dip' method for fall/winter hardwood cuttings of hydrangeas, roses, etc? No need to remove the wax either? That sounds like a good experiment to try.
@ correct. I have a few experiments to try also
Would happen to have cuttings for sale of this variety
I don’t, it will probably be a couple of years
Great video. I never thought to use wax instead of parafilm. What proportion of each type of wax do you use, ie paraffin, beeswax and toilet seal wax? I’m going to try this with grafting scions on avocado and citrus. Thanks!
I’m not sure, it’s mostly paraffin. I just keep mixing in other waxes until it stays soft and doesn’t crumble
I use straight paraffin I bought on Amazon and it works fine! I applied it to my fig, mulberry and olive cuttings. SO quick and easy once the wax is melted. I will save my parafilm tape for grafting. The product says its melting point is 145°, and I heat it in a tall thin glass olive jar in my sous vide cooker set to 150°. That takes at least an hour to melt it all, so I now generally start the melting process in my microwave.
@ olive jar, that’s perfect!
Once I root them in garage on a heating mat, can I put them in a greenhouse for further development thru winter? I’m in Zone 9A-Houston
Yes, it’s better to grow them through the winter to get them well established
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Are you going to leave them outside where they are now to go dormant when the temps drop?
During freezing temps they will be moved inside which is usually about 5 nights at the peak of winter.
With the baggie method, folks usually wrap it in foil afterwards to keep it dark and cool. Might be worthwhile with these in the heat of summer too, although the additional step means even less advantage to these plastic balls.
I think I saw somewhere that Pakistani mulberries are harder to cultivate from cuttings than other mulberries? If that’s right, you did pretty well with those air layers! Thanks for the video; I use the ziplock bag method for air layers, but I’ve wondered if those balls are easier.
I prefer the baggie method now.
I can't believe you didn’t share your figs with your filmer! I enjoyed the video but take care of your helper next time!😂 i did see you offer and she didn’t accept, so have to take back my criticism... sorry,😂
lol, she had stomach surgery and is on a restricted diet
