Very helpful ! Thanks
Any progress on travel batteries? I want to buy another battery, and am wondering if I should wait for the travel battery…
Very cool. Would love to see some downwind content from OBX.
Hoping to get a foil drive for assisted Winging, take offs & offshore wind conditions making my Wing choice a little smaller. Would love to see some videos & tips on use in conjunction with Wingfoiling. Thanks guys the product looks awesome.
Thankyou! It's on the list for sure!
Saw a guy who made a recessed compartment in bottom of his board and battery pack fits int and bolts into the recessed part of board . Eliminates virtually all drag from battery pack …. Genius !!!
I often find the latch is so tight that I can’t open it with my fingers. It would be good to have a video of you opening the latches too and how to do this safely without damaging the mechanism if you don’t have the finger strength to do it by hand.
100% agree. The design is far from perfect. To open the latch, I use a cheap plastic auto trim removal tool.
I use half of an old school wooden clothes pin, works perfectly
Thank you. It might be cool to have the option to somehow out the controller on the hand wing handle so you don’t have to hold it and the boom at the same time.
don't get it. in such an expensive kit, why not include both options , sound like you just want to make some more money on accessories ?!?!
The Three Blade propeller is not for everyone, if you've watched the video comparing the two vs the three you'll see that the three Blade while it does offer more low end Thrust, it chews through battery faster and reduces top end speed. If we included it in the kit, the kit price would have to go up when this isn't something everyone needs. We do offer a Three Blade Upgrade set so you can use your existing propellers and swap out the hub with an extra blade as a cheaper alternate.
What is the spec for the grease? Im a new FD user and live in Cape Town, and would prefer not to import small tubes of grease. So I would like to buy the right grease locally.
Hey, thanks for asking! We advise to ONLY use Foil Drive Grease. While you can find similar grease options even small changes to the recipe can change how the grease works. We've had customers use something close to identical and destroy their batteries as why we only suggest using Foil Drive Grease. We are about to go live with a bulk buy tube of grease to tackle the exact issue of customers having to order in often. The bulk tube should last a lifetime!
I just bought the gen 2 and waiting to receive it from the shop. I plan to use it with my Armstrong 115 liter SUP foil board. Total beginner but looking forward to getting on the water. Cheers.
What do you have to use to lubricate the ball bearings? Can you use the same lanolin stuff or is it better to use teflon or something alike?
just received ours. ...ooosh so good !
Good filmography 👌
Any chance you are developing a 40 volt slim endurance battery? I really need the extra thrust
Mine isn't working. I have a gen 1, is it too old? I can get into the menu and cycle thru 9 options I think. I stop at cruise on/off but when I press the throttle trigger nothing happens. I have also pressed the power button with ther throttle trigger and it just scrolls down to the next option.
hey! the Gen1 systems don't have the ability to access the same telemetry data as the Gen2 systems or some of the newer Gen1 systems. If you want to double check you can email support@foildrive.com with the firmware number that flashes when you turn the screen on. There's also information on controller versions here: help.foildrive.com/en-US/foil-drive-controller-overview-389121
Great video and narration, can I ask what mic set up your using Paul? Keep up the great work 👍
Hey, Caitlyn here! The microphone is a bit of a DIY job, it's a Rode Go3 inside a... latex pouch...
@@foildrive top notch DIY system if I don’t mind saying so myself…cheers Caitlyn
@@peaplecreative hahah thanks! If it works it works!
so epic .. inspiring ,, our next mission is learning to Use the Foildrive then start down winding
Are you planning to add some safety features? I bought WD2 recently, and got accidentally cut my hand (totally my folt) now I’m thinking it was reminder , be careful , probably would be good if you not standing on board motor shut off , because remote was in water in my hand , s as nd I still cut myself.. 😢
As you said, a good reminder to be careful, but glad you're ok. Users should always turn the controller off when getting in and out of the water. Also using the wrist leash allows you to let go of the controller to avoid accidently pulling the throttle. We have a few safety options already in place like being able to change latency of the motor. This is the period of time it takes the motor to stop. We also have a break build into the motor so when you let go of the throttle it stops spinning. The Gen2 system also has a Lock Function available where the user can pre set a time between 0 and 999 seconds where if the throttle trigger is untouched the controller will Lock. For example if you fall off, you could have this set to 5 seconds. This can be unlocked by holding down the Cruise Button for 3 seconds and is an optional feature. We have been discussing with the community for some time now a propeller guard also. This is something we will be releasing soon to further the available options.
This will be epic
Y’all r masters !!! What an accomplishment!!!
I’d love to see a DW FoilDrive with 8’ boards?
Excited for this one!
whoah.
Such an epic experience
Yeah boys!!!! Epic adventure.
Yea Eric!! Awesome episode!
Great to listen to your thoughts and how keeping foiling inclusive. I guess that Windsurfing didn't manage to close that gap between the pros and what normal people were able to experience. If pros like you are aware of how to make Downwinding or proning accessible to normal people, maybe with Foildrive, that's positive for the whole industry, I'd guess😊. Made me feel a little cooler depending on my Foildrive to Downwinding ✌️and proning. Thanks for that!
🙏helped me a lot in the beginning. Now I've figured out that on a smaller board it helps while doing the double arm strokes to gently press your feet down on the water surface to help control the pitch in a good flat angle (like you'd do on a boat with trimming the motor😊) And, mounting the system further back in the tracks will make you plane more easily BUT when free foiling might be off centre, weird feel. The further you mount it forward in tracks the harder you get it on a plane, but you may find the sweet spot somewhere along the "road"😅. So some playing around with the mast position can help. thanks for making Foildrive 😀
Excellent point Eric made about missing the growth in the beginning of a learning curve, the smallest improvement feels amazing!
This was a great one, thank you for the time and effort put in
Love it, but for 5500$ USD... Seems like ALOT. Been putting off buying one due to high price
We offer a premium, performance based product with top service and adaptability and the price reflects that. If we made it any cheaper we'd have to sacrifice part of our offering. If you can get your hands on a demo from a local dealer we'd recommend giving it a go :) We know our word is bias but plenty of reviews out there if you need your arm twisted!
People never talk about how rough shore break can be for getting a foil setup out on the water.
These Masterclass are great for showing me how to get the most out of my FoilDrive & my board/foil setups.
Great sequence and commenting - as always Paul moving ahead at lightspeed with Ben & yourself gift to the water warriors of the planet - BUZZ (aka Jack SURFOILZ)
Thanks mate!

😆I'll be sure to pass this one on to Paul!
For a newby at FD that was helpful and relaxing too! I got a chuckle y your dismounts which are similar to mine 🙃 safe n smart 👍🏽
thank you for this great video, can you tell me what your settings are for the foil drive and the control lever. THANKS
Just updated the specs in the description! Paul: 96kg Foil Drive: Assist MAX Battery: Power Battery Board: Jimmy Lewis Prototype Foil Drive Superfly 4'11x19.5 44L Foils: Code 850S Mast: NoLimitz 85cm Integrated Mast Motor Height: 20cm Propellers: Three Blade Propellers Power Settings: Maximum Power - 17% Boost for 10 seconds Total Time in Water (Note filming is not very efficient): 50 Minutes (20% battery leftover)
Great tutorial Paul! I've also just experienced in the last months in Morocco how great the J-turn works. May I add, that it is amazing also in bigger waves that would normally scare you. It kind of gets you going on waves in which you'd probably need towing in. I am using the J-turn now at Lake Garda on short wind chop to learn how to Downwind. Works great, since going straight you'd hit the chop in front of you and fall sooo many times😅..like I did. I like my 90cm mast very much in waves. Cheers Stefan
Awesome Stefan! It definitely transitions into a few different use cases, thanks for sharing your insight too!
It's better with a 85 mast or 75 mast ?
Looking good Paul! Excellent tips
amazing how light it is
Quick tip. When walking out with your board. Grab the tail by the handle and lift when the wave comes at you and drive the nose down when the wave come at you. It drives the board under so it does not pop up and accidentally hit you in the face. When the board pops up is when it’s most dangerous.
Thanks Paul, such a comprehensive clip. A couple of questions. 1. what did moving the box forward give you? The other thing what's the width of the JL 4'11" 44L
Typically, setting the box to the back is better. Moving it forward can generate more lift due to it's position but it dies require more technique and weight to keep the nose of the board down. Masterclass in this coming soon!
The board is a Jimmy Lewis custom! Board: Jimmy Lewis Prototype Foil Drive Superfly 4'11x19.5 44L
@@foildrive thank Paul
Great tutorial, thanks Paul. 😊🇦🇺
amazing product! Unfortunately cant find it in Turkey..
