Here’s nostalgia for ya - I remember very well the fist time it cost $3 to fill my dad’s Volkswagen Beetle with gas, and he had a come apart… “THREE DOLLARS!! How much are y’all charging for this gas?” I remember everything about it, and can still picture the scene and the look on every face that was there.

If you look at a photograph and notice how clear and distinct the details are then that is an indication that the photographer used the silver plate photo method. Silver plate was very expensive so it was only used where the photographer knew he was going to be paid, such as for family photos. I have a book about the US navy at the turn of the century and the silver plate photos are amazing! The old nitrate film yellowed with age and also disintegrated or even burst into flame.
