I saw this movie in the early 1980s. I love the quote attributed by the film maker to Seneca, "They were not defeated, they were only killed." That quote was and still is my all-time favorite quote. Based on the quote in the movie, I really thought this was a quote by Seneca describing not the 300 ambushed Romans but the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae. Unfortunately, I could not find that quote attributed to Seneca. So I think it was made up to show the courage of the French soldiers(Foreign Legionnaires) which was comparable to the 300 Spartans. And I still love this movie even though quote might be a misquote and not really a quote by neither Seneca the Elder nor by Seneca the Younger. There is also another such story of courage by a band of French soldiers who held off an attack to the last man. The quote, "They were not defeated. They were only killed." was from 'The Epic Battle of Weltenberg', a poem by Erich Reiner. BYW, I have a file of my favorite quotes by Senca. Apparently Senaca the Elder and Seneca the Younger never said this. PS ....There is also the Battle of Camarón (French: Bataille de Camerone) which occurred over ten hours on 30 April 1863 between the Foreign Legion of the French Army and the Mexican Army, is regarded as a defining moment in the Foreign Legion's history. I think the quote, "They were not defeated. They were only killed" , is also appropriate here.

Thanks for uploading this,Stepfanie Kramer was a wonderful actress.I remnember her in Hunter when she played Dee Dee Mc Call.Jack Scalia was a very handsome actpr back in the day,i remember him in other movies and tv shows in the 80's and 90's.Stepfanie should have won awards for her acting ,she now runs her own beauty business from her home in Los Angeles,California,she is 67.Stepfanie has a wonderful singing voice(that's why she left Hunter) to persue a music career which sadly never took off. She has a daughter called Lily which she had in 1994,Lily is now 30 and is still living at home with Stepfanie and working with her in her mum's beauty buisness.Stepfanie married in 1992 and sadly her and her husband divorced after their daughter Lily was born.
