DO THIS!! Protect your RV water heater!!
My old generator automatically stops if it's running low on oil. Does this one do that too?
We are here now and really like the bradenton Koa. Fun video, thank you!
Stayed at the Love's RV Stop in Lancaster Ohio on our to Elkhart and then on our way back home to NC. It was perfect. For an overnighter on your way to a far away destination, it's great.
A little bit of metal?! On a new machine, change the oil at 15 minutes. Then, 30 minutes more. You'll get a very clear idea of how the break-in period is going. Change oil as needed. Remember, this is YOUR equipment, and you want it to last long term.
Awesome 👍👍👍👍!!!
Super easy...Thank you for showing us how!!!
Thank you for watching!
Awesome! I just got one of these and i wanted to see if the generator would work for all of our stuff and mostly the space heater(s). THANK YOU!!!
I've had mine for about a year now, I use it all the time, great generator!
Awesome! Glad to know it's a good unit long term!
Man, I had a heck of a time starting the generator today. Looks like the screw on the carburetor was not tight. My lord. I wish I had found this video before I used a funnel and tilted the machine over to remove the oil. I guess, I should read the directions.
Oh no! Sorry you had such a difficult time getting it started. The door for the oil is hard to see if you are not looking for it. Next oil change you'll be ready now! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Just pick one up from Costco. Is changing oil every 25 hour typical for generators of this wattage? Seems a bit frequent. It would need to be changed every 1-2 days during an extended power outage or camping trip. Not sure how many hours it gets per tank, but I am guessing it requires changing the oil after every 2-3 tanks of gas.
Thank you! I'm not sure if 25 hours is typical. I had an older non inverter generator that I would change yearly lol. I agree 25 hours seems a bit excessive. Thanks for watching!!
@@travelpawsrv. Hi, I don't own one of these but I'm doing some research in order to buy it. I thought the oil was supposed to be changed after the first 25 hours break in period and after that it should be changed every 100 hours, am I wrong? Thank you.

David, glad to see you back! IT work can really suck up your time, right?!? Thanks for the video.
Thanks!! Oh for sure IT has a mind of its own at times LOL!!
A few people have recommended getting a Wen gna200 magnetic dipstick to catch the metal particles in the oil. It should be a exact fit.
Thanks for the suggestion! I wondered if there was a magnetic dipstick, I'll have to look for that. Thanks for watching!!
I thought they want you to use standard 10w30 or for under 40°F use 5w30 full synthetic and you have to change the spark plug?
Hi! I looked through the owners manual again and do not see anything like that listed, but something for me to find out for sure. Thank you!
FYI, I just noticed Firman recommends checking the oil by just inserting the dip stick in without screwing it in.
Interesting! Thank you! noted for next time.
Used my tank this evening. Like others, I put the 90 on tank so it’s lower and can shut valve and use 90 as a sight glass.
Awesome! yes, I have since moved mine around as well.
I use an oil extractor, there is no mess since you don’t have to remove the drain plug.
Excellent idea! Thank you!
vrod1a - May I please ask, which oil extractor did you use? thanks
@ I use a Pela 650 oil extractor , it has 6.5 litre capacity but they have smaller extractors as well .
Nice video 👍 I am currently contemplating between Campion and Firman duel fuel generators
Best purchase I made! And I literally had no use for another generator considering I already had three lol but I bought a refurbished model directly from the company on eBay during their big sale and I literally bought this generator for like $325 out the door I mean quite frankly you’ll never find a dual fuel generator anywhere near that price so I just couldn’t pass it up ha ha but I will admit I love it. It’s easy to haul around my property when I’m working away from power. And I actually had been looking for a smaller generator for this exact reason for quite some time, but seems like 90% of them are all fuel only and I typically run my generators on propane strictly as a seem to run and last so much longer as a matter of fact, I think I’ve already put about 12 to 14 hours on this thing and I’ve yet to put a drop of gas in it.
I picked up a Dual Fuel Remanufactured Firman 3242 for a little over $300 too. I do have a soft start on the AC unit and it powers my 30 amp travel trailer like a champ. I too use propane, don't want to haul a gas container around since I already have propane. Nice video, very informative.
You are certainly going to be using it more than I will...I think everyone here would love to know how it holds up for you over the long haul!
Thank you so much!!!
My motorcycle does the same thing when draining the oil. Nice and clean until the flow slows down. I found I can wrap some aluminum foil around the area to keep the oil going where I want. Nice video! Thanks!
Awesome idea! Thank you for watching!
Very informative
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I wanted to upgrade my Generac XL5500(ca 1998) to an inverter generator 3 years ago. I knew about the brand because of Costco. Costco has a sale of the duel fuel or the tri fuel once a year. But When I was ready to pull the trigger, it was not on sale, so I purchased the least expensive 3600 W unit that I could get(WO-3382, gas only, for $845 at Lowes). Got it and broke it in then put it into long term storage mode. So it has sat for the past 2 years, waiting for a power outage. Next summer, I will start it and exercise it just like with the XL5500, then put them back into storage mode. Oh and after 26 years, the xl5500 still starts on the first pull...
wow! two years without a power outage! That is awesome! and WOW 26 year old generator...I hope mine lasts that long.
@@travelpawsrv My Generac was the best maintained engine that I have. I follow the Generac manual for the long term storage process. Generac made good 320 engines and it has an oil filter to keep everything clean while running. Now you have to get the contractor version in order to have an oil filter.
Does that oil pan and the leveling blocks come with the unit? Or did you have them from something else? Overall opinion of the unit?
I had them all already from owning the RV and changing my own oil, they just fit perfect! haha Overall I am happy with the unit so far, I do not use it as much as some people do but so far it hasn't let me down!
What oil pan is that? I’m reaching 20 hours of use here in FL after Milton and will need to change in the next day or so.
I do not remember the actual name but I bought it at Walmart :-)
8:30 -- Why did you have a lose bolt to the left of the valve cover?
I'm so sorry, I just saw this. Having some issues with notifications. I went back and rewatched it and I didn't remove that. I never noticed it LOL I'll take the cover back off and check that. Thanks for catching that!!!
If you put some baby power on your hands the glove will go on easer
My wh03242 inverter generator gas no electricity out and hour meter has no power engine runs perfect hard for me to believe rhe evm board is bad nothing is burned no smell anybody know anything about the evm board?
Thanks for sharing
Have you ever changed the on/off switch on a Firman WHO3242?
I have not had to yet.
Use a little washer on that pop rivet that barely fits through as a backer.
Do you have to charge the battery before the first use? If so, do you have to charge it every so often?
I didn't on my refurb unit - which also did not include the charger. Reading around the Web, I learned - 1) if you run your generator 1x month for 30 minutes (as advised by most generator mfgs), this should keep your batter charged, too. 2) it is recommended to use a battery maintainer which cycles on and off rather than the plug they included on new units. Harbor Freight has a Cen-Tech one for $10 with great reviews. You may already have one for cars/motorcycles/etc that get stored. On Amazon, you even find a barrel plug pigtail to make a cleaner setup by plugging your maintainer into the port where the charger is supposed to go on the control panel.
@@GeeDee3333 That's what I did with my refurb unit. I already had a spare battery maintainer and a barrel plug. This is one case where my junk electronics hoarding paid off, lol!
post an update if you see metal in the oil at the second oil change!
Excellent idea! I will do that for sure!!
I was told the generators stop when you get to 20% of your tank as you don't have enough pressure to run it.
Good to know thank you!! I'll have to pull the manual out and see if it says that too. 😀
Just too loud, I've only seen one video where the Firman quiet.
Thanks! The camera mic amplifies it. I really don't think it's bad, but I will say..I do have hearing loss haha
Should've shared about how to clean out the waste water tank. You showed everything else
Ahhh sorry, didn't think about it. Next time!
the owner's Manual states not to screw the dipstick in to check the oil.
Interesting...I'll have to pull my manual out, I don't remember that LOL thanks!!!
That’s true I was about to say that. There is a drawing showing taking oil measurements without screwing it in completely. So technically your oil level is lower than what it should be.
That's worth a call to the manufacturer for confirmation. Tech writers are notoriously out of touch with engineers and often inaccurate in their writing. Especially Chinese engineers. Funny thing is if you put in the correct amount of oil... you should be at the correct oil level. Thus, I refer you back to my original thesis about tech writers... 😂 FWIW, I've owned lots of Honda power equipment engines and their clones... I always screwed in the dip stick to read it. That said... you can go 3/4 of a quart of oil here and be fine. Engine isn't going to explode... 😂
@@columbiariversalmonenhance4050 I verified with support and you’re not supposed to screw it in to read the proper oil level. If you’re screwing it in then your oil is slightly lower than recommended. Trust me I verified with Firman support.
Had same one , put 1000 hours on it. Bolt on plastic manifold exhaust side (plastic cracked). Oil leak unknown source, spark plug cylinder started stripping, and ran 99 percent propane. It started surging on both fuels . The 12v wire from propane tank started fraying and will require replacement. I would not buy another from costco. Customer service immediately accused you of not doing valves as ordered. I did them perfectly and changed oil frequently. Dont buy
Oh no! Don't tell me that! Ouch, sorry to hear that happened but thank you for telling everyone your experience. Safe travels!!
U are wasting oil ,,
Hi! I'm not sure I'm following...wasting oil? This was the initial oil change which is 25 hours according to the manual.
@@travelpawsrv man u all's ,, manuals ,,
@@FourMypersonaluse Nope, and I won't be changing this every 25 hours. 25 hours first change, then every 100 hours after is the plan.🙂
@@FourMypersonaluse It seems to work out to about 25 hours in a cars first oil change! I had to look it up, at about 50 mph, which is the average of my drives I'll say, that is about 1000 miles or so. He has been saying first oil change which is always lower than the rest of them. He even pointed out there was metal in the oil, which isn't common, but common on the first oil change, which is why it is changed so soon.

Hi, can you show me parallel outlet which is negative which is positive? Because both of them are black and there is no any sign on it.
Hi, sorry I do not have a way to test that currently...but if I do in the future for sure I will.
It is AC voltage, not DC, so no positive or negative. Just connect the left side with the left side and right side with the right side and you will be fine. Just do this before either of them are running. Pretty sure one can be running when you connect the wires, but absolutely not both, still best to start with both off. If you connect them together while both are running, you are likely to kill one inverter or both. Unless you get lucky, they won't be synched when connected together, and will be forced into synch with each other as quick as possible, which in big power plants, is a physical slam, but in these electronic inverters, I have no idea. When they are first turned on, they will synch properly with what they are connected to, but they are starting from 0, so its easier.
Great job on the conversion. I am retired IT myself. I had triple 24's for many years. I went to a 49" Ultra Wide. 5210x1440. I'm using Fancy Zones from the Windows Power Toys and I like it way better that the triples. You can still throw a window to a zone just like a monitor. Just a thought to put in your head. Give Rupert and May a good scratching from James!
Thank you so much!!! I'll ask my boss if I can expense that HAHAHAHA!! Thanks for watching and Rupert and Mae say Hey!
Please, where to get the app and the thing you use to gauge what is left in tank you used?
Hi! I bought mine off of Amazon: a.co/d/giHEDlR
Please, can i use a 100ft cord or more with it?
I'm not an electrician so I'm not sure...I'm assuming as long as the cord is rated for the wattage/amps it would work...but again..I'm not an electrician :-)
Good video and mod David! 👍🏻 for us remote IT workers!!!
Thank you! Go remote IT! Lol
Fantastic mod! Hope you're still enjoying it!
Love it 100%
I barely had 80 hours on my firman I paid almost $500 for gas/propane. The coil went out!!!! I'm going to contact firman and see what kind of discount I can get for a new coil. My mechanic thinks it was used before we bought it, supposedly new. Not happy. I hope they work with me.
Oh no!!! that is horrible! I hope everything works out ok for you!!
Their customers service is awesome. I am going on my third year. I go boondocking camp sixteen times a year. I USE mine pretty hard, and the wheels fell off because the 4 bolts rattled loose. Customer service (in AZ) told me that as long as it was registered, the warranty would cover those bolts. By the way, they cost a total of $6. I love my Firman! I love Firman customer service, having used the 2 times, I was super impressed (I am usually hard to impress)
@@MelvenSweat that is awesome to hear!! Customer service can make or break a company for sure!
You gotta wonder why they have so many refurb ones for sale on eBay...🤔
@atcaw94 good question! Luckily (knock on wood) mine is still going strong but I haven't had to use it regularly. Once a month to keep it exercised, and of course when power goes out.
That thing is loud
