😂this harakeke plant grows very well in Ireland. I have used it many times for cordage and it is incredibly strong. Thanks for the knowledge of how to treat it and a faster way to braid it. Great video
GREAT TO SEE LIVE WELL, AWESOME SMOKE DANGER 'S, THANK, YOUTHUMB UP❤❤❤❤😂😊😊😊😊😂.
Interesting and impressive stuff! Can’t wait to try to do all this! 😮
Well done I did not know about the gum to strengthen the line... Amazing .
Im a skin from Oklahoma ( Absentee Shawnee , Delaware and Creek ) and I love to see how different tribes dance from different parts of the country....LOVE TO GO TO A POW WOW up north...!!!
They sound like native americans, chirping and screaming with no sense at all, basically what are they trying to achieve to frighten everyone with random hysteria of making different kinds of noises most people don't usually make ?
This is so backward that these savages are organised like a war party and couldn't possibly win a fight with sticks
The British army(The best equipped and trained in army in the world at that time)lost to these "savages" and were put in a 10 year stalemate wtih these people until other tribes became Kupapa and joined the British to help them for Mana, better trade with the Brits, and land ,and if you look closley some of them are holding guns.
@@Thepublisher-og3vd Those so called "Kupapa" had better sense and it is the same today when you stand against ordinary people. You're actually be a fascist and a reverse racist and a communist/marxist.
chur
The british saw first hand what it was like to come up against a war party my people were ruthless an fought to the death then went home an prepared an harvested there crops an loved there whanau
Quality video, was that fishing lure traditionally used? Its really clever.
Awesome.
Dance for who you are.

That's not flax. Google is your friend.
This dude's talking to plants. Wtf.
"The Maori like all indigenous people, utilize mother earth for survival." Cool, but maori didn't have flax, or rope.
They had Harakeke (NZ flax as shown in the video) they made flax line (rope) for nets and fishing lines. What are you talking about? Nz used to be scattered with flax mills exporting our precious flax across the world.
Or are you just having a dig at the semantics, because Harakeke isn't actually a flax? Because you could spend your lifetime commenting on red panda vids too
here in new zealand im not sure why we call it that. but it could very well be like true flax they can be turned into processed fibres so when europeans first got here and understood its purpose instead of calling the foreign word harakeke they stuck with flax and nowadays we use both words.
and ropes/cordage has been around as long as we have been on the savannah making handaxes and digging with sticks and weaving houses because we stopped living in trees. so atleast a million years. there is no human society on earth that doesnt have rope so that claim is outrageous.
how did he make the rope longer? also , that flax plant looks very different
Was hoping he was gonna show how he got the length of the rope. There must be some special way to combine the smaller parts of line into one long line.
This was an experience and a half. I was privileged enough to escort GG Mateparae, CDF GEN Tim Keating and an entorage of politicians including Dr Pita Sharples. Definitely felt the emotions of history rise this day. However the commemoration of Oraakau was even more significant for me as my tupuna Whenuanui and a band of Tuuhoe marched to Oraakau to support Rewi Maniapoto's fight against the colonial troops. Tamati Kruger gave an eloquent and stirring speech of the historical account of Tuuhoes involvement at Oraakau. Tamatis speech was supported by an emotional and vigorous Tuuhoe haka "Te Puuru". Composed by Whenuanui at the battle of Ooraakau. I will never forget that particular haka and commemoration. I was proud to be a part of that haka, performing, enmasse with my Tuuhoe whanau.
Daaammmmmn I would've shit and pissed myself...real shit. Lol im tongan but I fuckin love the maori culture.
Thank you for this video. Can you please tell me how to make long strings? How would you join them together?
I’m also curious. Just tie knots? Or somehow weave them together?
You can see he only starts with two very small bundles of fibre. As you continue you lay in more small bundles to each side of the twist to grow the length. Hope that helps
braid? i think the word would be, making cordage until your fibre starts running out then add new fibre and twist into the side that has run out just have some skill to keep the rope an even thickness
Kia ora. I am heavily impressed by the way you treat and proceed harakeke. I would love to learn from you. Ngā mihi. Riki
This video is Awesome
My brothers going to go bigger one day
Kia ora,This was a great video from start to finish with great explications so thank you & also are you able to email me your karakia i usually do a karakia in my head before collecting any rongoa Nga mihi
Can't wait to try do this tomorrow!!!
Hey Baffalena, how was it? = )
I was there that day in the opi taua: the war party it was amazing
This is a good video. It is great to see the sincerity and enthusiasm for utilising and sharing the the wise and useful traditional knowledge. It would be great if we had a flax cordage industry again here in NZ (and maybe we should be growing hemp as well). There is too much plastic string laying around. I use flax to tie up plants in my garden, especially tomatoes.... this means the flax 'string' can go into the compost bin at the end of the season.
haha probably cant even do any of this anymore haha
