Love this band so much

As a piano player, I was definitely in Bruce's 'camp' from the time of his tour supporting Huey Lewis. As a player he has more range (no pun intended) than even his idols Elton, Leon etc. As a singer he is in a league of his own. However, I saw him live in Seattle several years ago at which point I realized that he never wants to play the same thing - in the same way - twice. Not un-related, he is also into the musical 'avant garde'. His opening act was a guy from 'Bon Iver' whose set was truly horrible, the most painful thing I have ever heard in a concert setting. Even the Hornsby set which followed appeared to endorse the same unnerving style - not at all as expected. Next time I will just listen to the recordings!

I was fortunate to hang out with Bruce and his local Virginia band for 6 months in 1978. I was a drummer in the local Air Force band and followed them around to different clubs and actually got to sit in on drums for a few songs on a slow night when drummer Molo went out to be the front singer. Our AF band was in NYC for a few days in May 1978 where Bruce and his band were recording a few songs demo so I got to see some of that and I was stationed in Germany in the mid 1980s when he opened for Huey Lewis and got to go backstage for that concert. The first time I saw his local band I knew that if he didn't make it big in the music business there was something seriously wrong. I have enormous respect for Bruce as a musician and as a person. He deserves every accolade he has ever received.

He is a very decent guy, and I agree with all the comments below, his mother did a good job to bring him up. I also like his music, he does not need to be compared to his dad. Comparisons are useless. He is his own person.

Nice interview. I played a singing part at ACE drama and the fans went wild but I never made it as a musician. Never occured to me. I really enjoyed this interview. I appreciated how candid they were about feeling bummed when not getting X number of plays. It's a bummer because a band may see a low number of streams but what that number doesn't show is how much that album may mean to the people who are listening. There's a band called Yasawa Group - formed by Matt Taylor, former member of The Growlers (who had massive success) - that currently only has 1 or 2 thousand views on his songs. But I'll be damned if I don't listen his album in it's entirety almost daily since it's release back in Dec. 2023. Something about it just captivates me. It's like I want to keep reaching out and reminding him that I just genuinely appreciate his art. Anyway, I'll end this rambling. Thank you for the interview!

I’d say he is as talented as his dad was. He writes his songs and music if I’m not mistaken. He’s a fine person. I love his mom too. She was a very balanced intelligent woman.
