We start off with a field trip to the Northern Division to see a road train stomping its way through Chenango Forks on its way to Syracuse. What follows is a fantastic mixture of north east short line railroading. Detours, Passenger extras. you name it!

Переглядів 5523 роки тому
Later in the summer of 2003 we saw the addition of CEFX 3147 and a pair of BDLX SD40 high hood units make an appearance. 3147 would leave and eventually return around 2011 and the two high nose units would become NYSW 3020 and 3022. We will also see some action at Ridgefield Park on an infamous day when the 3012 made her debut in yellow!
NYSW Spring 2003: the lease invasion continues!

In May of 2003 even more lease power began to show up on Susie-Q's rails! This time in the form of a pair of HLCX (former Conrail) GP38-2s. First we capture a couple of CSXT Detoured Q271s at Oakland and a different Q271 at Smiths Mills in Bloomingdale, and again at Smoke Rise (Kinnelon). Next we catch a weekend local WSX with the 1804 at Butler, Milepost 48 in Oak Ridge, and Stockholm. Later t...

NYSW Spring 2003: The New York Susquehanna-Pacific and Western
Переглядів 3543 роки тому
As the Spring of 2003 rolled on, it almost looked like Northern New Jersey was starting to look like the Southern Pacific before the UPs takeover. Gritty tired looking tunnel motors in scarlet grey replaced shiny yellow and black on road trains for quite some time until they were painted which took a couple years. this began a wild mix of motive power changes on the NYSW that would last until a...

With the B40-8 fleet now sidelined, the SD40T-2s are now the primary road power for the SU99/100 trains. Here we find the 1804 waiting for the SU99 with the 3010 and 3014 to clear up at Wyckoff on the old Bergen Brick and Tile siding. Once the 99 clears up the 1804 backs on to the main and roars west with its single ballast car in tow. A few days later we follow a SU100 with the 3014 in charge ...
Last days of the NYSW B40-8s

The Summer of 2003 brought on the end of an era on the NYSW. The four B40-8s on the NYSW that had served the road since 1988 and were nearing the end of their long term lease and with the arrival of the SD40 series locomotives their days in New Jersey were numbered. After these two trains the four units were placed in storage awaiting disposition in Binghamton, with the exception of the 4006 wh...

Do train still run on those tracks by route 211 in middletown?
Looking forward to having time for this. First 5 min looks promising!
Thanks for uploading this video.😊I really enjoyed it.I give you ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5 star rating.😊Its a great video.😊
I was sorry to see this go- your video must have been April/May as she left not long after. Arrived right after Memorial Day weekend 1999 IIRC.
I love that scene! Nice train too!
Very nice.

Interesting to see how track rehab methods have changed. Especially the snipping or severing of the ties in place prior to removal. Today they just get removed in one piece instead of three. And they no longer furrow where the new tie goes in. They just jam the new one in pushing the dirt aside.
Not much has changed lol! I caught SU99 stalling out not to long ago and it happened exactly like this.
37:41 This is probably the only known video footage of the old High Mountain Road Railroad Crossing at Crystal Lake in Franklin Lakes, NJ. There was a train station across the road to the right of the tracks until it was torn down in the 1960's I believe. Where the station and crossing used to be is now underneath an offramp on State Route 208 that goes onto Interstate 287. While everything to the left is now also gone and is now part of Interstate 287.
Would there be a reason today to rebuild the Susie-Q from Sparta Junction to Slateford Junction/Delaware Water Gap?
Cool. As a youth in the sixties, I'd enlarge pennies on the track in Warwick. There are many tracks throughout the country that can be rehabilitated. It would be beneficial to run RDC's for passengers on these tracks.
They should bring back the butler day express and borrow the #142 to pull the train.
I like how the traffic signals work in conjunction with the railroad here, giving the railroad a yellow aspect (4:45 mark) when it is safe for the Railroad to cross here, the signal governing traffic movement ois brought to a stop.
These B40's are now in Nashville on the Nashville & Eastern
I was the engineer on the #2 that day. good time!!
Got me in this..
Where at?

This video brings back so many memories. After the Morris County Central left in 1980, these tracks sat dormant. I used to ride my bike along the old rails, at the junction with the Jersey Central Along the reservoir. Now I live in Upstate NY, and the NYSW is 300 feet from My house. I see 2 trains per day. Great video

Are you related to Harry?
Distantly, yes. Never actually met him.
@@matthewposthumus3885 ok. I used to work with him at Verizon. Nice guy.
I like the NYS&Ws B40s and the GP38-2
But it's been a long time since GP18 were Gone when the SD40T-2S came out to Operation for Susquehanna like 3012 3016 3014 and the SD45s 3618 and 3634 and 3612 that retired even the F45 3636 and the SD40-2 3018 and 3022

Which one had the Hancock Air Chime?
Nice little 44 tonner
I will NEVER forget that CP/DH detour train 268, that ran the day before my father died.
What to their container business and this line that they rehabbed?
Back in the '40s, I rode the SuzieQ regularly as a passenger, mostly on their ACF motorcars, got my taste of the smell of diesel oil from riding these, still own three diesel cars myself. As I remember you could hear the engineer shifting gears in the ACF cars as it wized from Hoboken to Hackensack where my grandmother lived, I would pay good money to ride that trip once again for the memories. The suzie was established to bring PA hard coal to the NY market and that all dried up in the late forties when everything switched to oil, most of the railroads that did this are now history, I'm glad that the suzie has found a new purpose and can continue, sure wish they'd bring passenger service back on the old Erie to the wester tier of NY and from Scranton to NYC.
Wish this project was going on today miss sawing ties. We sawed a lot of the ties for this project here in NY it was fun back then running the mill.
Are those ex SP tunnel motors?
They sure were! All were SP originally except for 3010 which was originally a DRGW unit.

Do any of those old Alcoa survive?
Has the track been upgraded even more since this was filmed?
It’s all 156 lb CWR rail now. At least most of what I can see.
' THE STATION AGENT " THAT MOVIE 🎥 SUCKED MORE THAN THIS VIEDO !!
I guess it was cheaper for the Q to go buy some ratty older power than to keep the lease on the last few B40’s they had? Funny that these were built to CSX specs as they were supposedly tacked onto to a CSX order for B40s. And lo and behold, CSX eventually got all of them after the leases were up!
They were built to CR specs
Amazing video
👌 great movie great blooper💪😅great video..🍺🍺👍👍
Great video! I have now lived in Middletown for about 5 years not far from the Lumber yard where the M&NJ delivers. Being a railfan, I really enjoy having this little freight line in our city. Being into model railroading, I came across a model of the #2 switcher and thought that it was just the model painted with M&NJ. After further research, I learned it was a real engine, so seeing this video is really great. Do you have knowledge of the #2 and where it is at now since M&NJ is using the GP-38's?
I grew up in the 1950s on Linden Ave... about two blocks from the O&W rail yard in Middletown ... when Middletown. was three RR town .I remember when RR gates were lowered manually. I did not realize that the M&NJ RR delivered to the lumberyard on the old O&W site. . This would explain why a couple of months ago I saw what looked like a brand new M&NJ loco going across the crossing on East main St and why this branch of the M&NJ RR is still in bushiness .... when the Slate Hill line was abandoned years ago.
