Cherry MX2A are not too bad stock in terms of sound profile, but I would recommend spring swapping as there is still some inconsistency with the feel. Geonworks Glare65 w/ Cherry HG Blacks
Which one is the loudest in person for you?
Carbon Fibre gives the highest pitch, which depending on the switch may make it sound louder than the aluminum plate. But it might not be by too much.
stock is crazy!!! i guess your channel is named keeb science after all lol. would love to hear a follow up of your mods
👍
Ideally, how long should you break-in a stock unlubed MX2A? I placed an order on Geon and was wondering if I should do that or just go straight modding it.
its personal preference in how much scratch you want to remove. 1-2M actuations is what I see on the market, but if you are doing break in yourself, you could experiment at 500k intervals if you still want a small amount of scratch.
@@KeebScience oh gotcha. it's the scratch that we're going for. i'll prolly just go ahead and mod the switches right away. thanks for the feedback. this would be my first time. from all the F1 soundtest, the majority go for cherry switches.
@@DadTech1981 they already have polished stems i believe vs the m1xa, u can def go straight to lube/film/springswap imo. i mean i have for 190 of them so far lol. have 3 builds with these now.
@@shylocutus I have 2 batches of MX2A and 1 batch of Hyperglides and went straight to modding L/F/SS all in the span of 2 days LOL
If you still have it, try it in the Orbit65 please.
I'll add it to the next round of rebuilds!
oooh i never seen these alt alphas. nice monochrome set
love me a good mono set...
I regret not getting this set with the Filo sublegends
@@WakaaYT I dunno, depends on the board I guess, since I find the regular alphas a bit too warm in colour tone.
Yikes.
LOL yea..
First
Does mill-maxed PCBs affect the sound?
a lot of variables go in to this as it depends on overall board design, plate design and its stiffness. Lastly, it can vary from switch to switch as different brand switches have different thickness pins. So some pins may be loose, even on a mill max socket, and will not hold onto the pcb enough. Which over time and use, may cause the pcb to fall off and then cause issues.
Yay so glad that you like them!
Definitely a solid switch to add to the collection. Going to try them in the F1 over the weekend.
can you tell me what is the wrist rest you are using ?
this one was made by Monokei to match the Hiro 65 keyboard. Don't think they make them anymore.
is it clackier than hmx cheese/xinhai/zakus?
I have this build and nope. But it's definitely one of the higher pitched builds.
@@ClackConnoisseurappreciate the insight!
@@ClackConnoisseurappreciate the insight! i'll just solder my lotus on my arc then
Out of the HMX switches on Kohaku, which one is your favorite?
so far, V2U & Xinhais for when I want something louder, for other times, hibiscus was pretty good for mid volume level switch.
@@KeebScience I have Hibiscus lying around unused, so that's good to know. About to build one myself, just won the raffle :3
is this stock?
The keyboard? maybe in a couple months. There's a big batch of these being manufactured right now. But won't be available in this colour as this was a special edition.
Hi there! I was curious on what your favorite plates for the kohaku were? I recently won the latest raffle but not too sure on choices! Thinking of picking up the pc plate
Congrats on the W. I would personally skip the PC plate, unless you get a custom one made that adds material back in to support the backspace area of the plate. I have favorite switches for all the three plates I've used. So it really depends on what you prefer. If you like to tinker around, get the CF with your order, and get a custom PC/PP Plate from Hype.
@@KeebSciencethank you for the suggestion! If you had to pick, would you choose pc/pp? Also what are your favorite switches for each plate?
@@tranmeister On Alu, Xinhais or BSUN BCPs. On CF, Hyacinth V2U. On PP, Hibiscus was really surprising to me. MX blacks on CF was really nice too if you don't want that much HMX Clack.
Where did you get the pcb?
It was a group buy run off their discord. They re-run them from time to time I think,
I wonder when will I get my hands on this board...
Did you join the group buy?
@@KeebScienceI am a late bloomer. I just joined the hobby late last year and didn't know much about group buys LOL
@@DadTech1981 Oh, well in a few months or so, there should be some available for sale. So shouldn't be too hard to get one once they finish production.
@@KeebScience That's really encouraging. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Nice videos btw
Glad to hear a Vega sound test in 2024. I converted my Vega into a top mount! I have the alu plate. Will try it with the HMX KD200 switches. Heard it’s similar to HMX Cheese.
Yea, I really need to rotate it back in more to my desk.
Redline go crazy
The goat posted
Sounds so good dude!
Yea, its a nice change from the HMX onslaught of switches LOL.
Love Cream Sodas. May have to try them In my forever now haha.
Sounds killer my dude.
Do they have a hotswap variant for these PCBs when they released it?
Only solder versions have been made so far.
anh cho em hỏi anh dùng mạch solder hay hotswap ạ
This is a soldered pcb w/ mill max sockets to make it hotswap.
@@KeebScience Is it as good as the original soldered circuit?
A great keyboard sounding good without the need for foams
Name of the wrist rest?
It was made by Monokei for the Hiro, not something they made readily available unfortunately.
where's the PCB from? one of those GBs from matrix discord? you think noticeable difference vs default 1.2 PCB in terms of sound?
previously I had Neons, so I overpowered the sound profile w/ a loud switch. But you can hear it was a bit thin. The 1.6mm pcb i feel evens out the sound and definitely worth getting next time they do another run of these PCBs.
ooooooooowiiiieeeeeee slapsssssss. P.S. That colour combo goes hard.
Hows the clickclack discord?
what wrist rest is that?
it was one made by monokei to match on of their boards.
👀👍! sounds very crisp and defined, not usually the sound i go for but it sure is nice!
Yes, it's a very satisfying sound profile.
How do these compare to the clouds?
I don't have the clouds to compare first hand, but KeebTaro maintains a chart with comparisons between them. Based on KeebTaro's opinion, the Xinhais are louder than the Clouds, but roughly the same pitch/tone.
How does the Orbit rank compared to other high-end 65’s in your opinion?
It holds its own, the tadpole mount style is really good for typing feel and sound. Just like the Frog Mini is so good for its price because of the tadpoles. Its a nice balance between top mount and gasket mount. The only minor complaint would be the lack of any design on the bottom case compared to a Kohaku or a 910.
The clacks tho ❤
Love the sound ❤
❤ F1 ❤ HMX
I like the CF alphas better but PP spacebar better 😂 nice video!
Great sounding build, nice job! Very handsome in that blue as well.
Morning
Might strong forearms there Clickclack bud.
ah yes, my fav hmx
Very red very nice happy chinese new year
I think the PP plate wins, but I’m curious which wins when hearing/typing in person
For this switch, I think PP is the best, CF second and Alu 3rd. I feel the PP plate adds an extra layer to the sound profile.
Damn that spacebar slaps
How do you like the overall sound? On the geon discord, i saw some complaints about the spacebar
it definitely is more sensitive to the switch for the space bar. So if I didn't swap switches all the time, I would definitely use a different one for the spacebar. Im thinking it might be how the plate is designed, might have isolated the space bar too much from the top mount spots.
@@KeebScience thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Currently considering if I should pursue it on the aftermarket. :)
That space bar is good! Nice video
