Land Rover overlanding adventures and off-roading around the United States. My wife and I explore in our 2004 Discovery II from our home in Grand Junction, Colorado. We also post other British car related videos from events we attend with our 2007 Jaguar XK Coupe and our travels to the UK. There are also technical videos of our LS D2 build and interesting repairs in our shop. 21st century home movies!

2024 LRNR Day 2 Pomeroy Lakes & Hancock Pass
The 2024 Solihull Society Land Rover National Rally was based at the Silver Cliff Ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado this year. The trails for the second day were Pomeroy Lakes with the Mary Murphy Mine spur & Hancock Pass. I led the Pomeroy Lakes trail & Mary Murphy Mine spur and then followed Jeff Corwin leading for Hancock Pass so I could see the Ineos Grenadier in action. It did not disappoint!

Ophir Pass Colorado 2019 Land Rover National Rally
Dang. Why did it take 3 years?!
Pandemic, parts shortages, moving across the country. I'm stamping out bugs now and finishing the interior as time permits.
@@RoverLanding-Adventures Understandable. Curious to see your long term feedback on the LS swap. The highway elevation I see is 4,xxx ft so the power of the stock motor is “fine” I would love to do a swap for fuel economy, but the LS swaps seem to return similar figures as the stock engine.
@@sarahdell4042 Grand Junction is 4593 feet and I'm seeing basically the same mileage (if not worse) than my stock Rover 4.6L on 32's. I don't really expect more pushing a giant brick on KM3 35's. Also keep in mind that the Trailhead 4x4 5.3L conversion is using the Rover computers directly so that comes into play too for fuel efficiency.
@@RoverLanding-Adventures Yeah that seems to be the general consensus. There’s a BMW m54 swap kit available for the Discovery 2, that would probably yield near 20 mpg on a stock truck. Given how modded yours is, the lack of power would definitely be apparent. Hard to beat the LS!!
What a pretty drive. Thanks, some of the old crew Jim, Tom, Etc. Maybe next year
@UnfrozenCaveman it was a great venue for the Rally this year. And the trails were gorgeous. The next video will be of Pomeroy Lakes and Hancock Pass.

I first did Elephant hill in a IIA
Loved your video, looking to do this trail in a Land Cruiser next week April. My heart broke seeing the damage to your truck, that would have really crushed me. Maybe I should stick to easy stuff. Thanks for sharing your experience. Look forward to watching more videos from you. Did you fix your truck?
Thank you. Don't worry about damage to your truck, my mistake was a wrong turn! The actual trail was perfectly fine. What you should be prepared for in April will be mud. Dirt roads turn into quagmires! I carry a Pull Pal now just in case I run into this again. The trail was actually fine, it was the roads getting to the trail that were a sloppy mess. As for the gold D2, it still has its "badge of honor" lol. I've got the LSD2 out here now and am fitting out the interior so the gold D2 is a low(er) priority since the doors still actually work fine. If I ever get around to the frame swap on the gold D2, I've got 2 new doors for it and rear quarter sections to make it look good again.
For my D2 I bought the alpine 11inch floating raido that a huge radio screen
I downsized back to a 7" (from a 10.1") in the gold D2 that fits the radio area without blocking the vents. It honestly is just as functional as the bigger screen and I don't have to worry about the heat cooking the screen (or loosing air con air flow). I've got the same unit to go in this one. BTW, I'll finally be doing an update video in the next month. The LSD2 finally shipped to Colorado from Ohio about 4 weeks ago. My XJ8L and "life" have been occupying most of my time, but I have been able to get some work in on the LSD2.
One of my all time favorite trails over the years, so glad you captured some of the magic.
Thank you, that was the second time I'd been on that trail. It is absolutely amazing out there, especially watching the star filled sky at night from the Bobby Jo campsite.
Please let me know what brand those black calipers are on the T2 Overland build. Thank you so much.
Those are just stock calipers that were blasted and painted.
What a great Friday afternoon treat! 2160p on my big curved display. I can see why you all were so excited about that trip. It looks like Ryan had more room on the roof rack for a cooler and maybe a spare or two...😆
The scenery is perfect for a big screen! Both our D2's were pretty loaded down, Ryan was loaded to the roof on the inside 🤣
@@RoverLanding-Adventures Knock me over with a feather LOL did he have a spare Short block in there? just in case
Good video - thanks for sharing! That was such a fun trip! I can't wait to do it again!
Oops sorry that's Bill Davis is 90
The Discovery 2 is a great platform and you produced an accurate and detailed trip video. Unfortunate that you damaged the body doing it. And I know the feeling of having to retrace your route!! Thanks for posting. Lots of Land Rover love from a fellow Rover owner.
Thank you. That was certainly a live and learn trail. I was lucky the damage was "cosmetic" and the doors still functioned.
This might sound odd but. Do you happen to have the unmodified.bin file for your LM4?
Sorry, I don't. I'm not using the GM computers.
@@RoverLanding-Adventures thank you for responding.
Second question on Eva Conover trail that climb at 12:25 looks pretty narrow, could a fullsize do it?
A Discovery 2 is about 75" wide. Are you asking about a full size pickup truck? I'd guess with careful driving it could be done. @Trailmater took their tow-truck up the trail! ua-cam.com/video/K1t1Zh7U-_k/v-deo.html
You have the most recent video with Eagle Canyon in it. Coming from the East, past Swacey's cabin, how difficult is the exit up the canyon, under the bridge and out to I-70? Can a stock 5th gen 4runner do it? Great video btw.
Thank you. You should not have any trouble getting out of Eagle Canyon. The exit out in either direction is not difficult. My only caveat to that would be to avoid it in the wet.
Thank you for taking the time to reply! I appreciate it! @@RoverLanding-Adventures

Good video...own a 2004 and it's nice to see videos of a Land Rover every now and again. Also, being in Texas shows me good trail footage for future trips up that way. Keep them coming. Erik
That is a fun area with some amazing trails. If you want the route, DM me on Instagram.
Nice looking project, can you tell me the size of the RTE lift springs and did you install spring spacers or just lift springs?
Thank you. Trailhead 4x4 is almost ready to ship it to Colorado where I'll be finishing the electrical, air and interior systems. The lift is springs only using the full RTE 4" kit with the exception that the rear springs are the 5" RR springs to compensate for the extra weight I will always have in the D2.
Thanks, looking forward to seeing the next video@@RoverLanding-Adventures
I'm heading out in a week, is the trail muddy this time of year? thanks
No mud, lots of dust!
That works, thanks @@RoverLanding-Adventures
As another solo desert explorer, I enjoyed your level headed analysis of mistakes made. I would have quit at the point you measured the width with your wingspan and checked my GAIA topo but 20/20 hindsight is cheating. That the trail paralleled the creek bed would have made that hard to see. 👍
Thank you. I made a dumb mistake that I tried not to make worse after the fact. Hopefully, someone else can learn from my mistake. My whole life, I've seemed to learn lessons the hard way! You can bet the next time I come on something like that I'll triple check now. I may even fly the drone! 🤣
100% a debit card builder that's never fabricated a thing.
Youre in Colorado? Im in Denver. If i swapped my '99 D2, what would i need to do to make it pass smog? Thanks.
What front windshield did you guys use? I need one, does need to be heated though. Whatever is cheapest.
The glass installer ordered it. It was a heated windscreen but I'm unsure of the manufacturer.
I have a 1999 D2. How difficult would that swap be? Keeping the LR tranny.
Take a look at the ACE LS swap kit. This would be what you would want to do the job yourself. www.alternativeconversion.com/product-page/copy-of-discovery-2-ls-swap-standard-kit

There are so many miles of gorgeous trails to see out there. We've only seen a fraction of them.

@EnterTheRover if you make it over to the western slope, we should run some trails.

I t looks awesome. I might be in your area the end of July. Is it too hot do do any trails at that time?
There are plenty of trails in the area we can run that go up in altitude a bit and cool down. We'll find something!
Congrats! What an awesome garage for all your toys! We moved here to Grand Junction 3 years ago and we have a Wrangler that we enjoy riding on some of the same trails that you do. Do you think you could tow a camper through the 6 3/10th’s section? Looks like there may be some dispersed camping at the top prior to the Calamity loop.
I would not take a trailer on the Loop. Up to the Uncompahgre National Forest but no further. Don't go past that radioactive mining sign with a trailer.
I love this wild, stark, harsh landscape. I live in GJ and walk these trails every chance I get.
It is gorgeous out there. I just took some family from back east on Windmill Loop yesterday. They loved the scenery.
It took a minute to realize you jumped from the D2 to the Sport🤣🤣
I did jump around a bit.... I don't really record a lot of video when I work but the rusty D2 tank cradle and the trouble I had with the "upgraded" Sport transmission pan kit seemed worthy of video. The Ford/Fel-Pro combo not only works better but is even cheaper than the Britpart kit!
I noticed the track rod is mounted upside down: is there a reason for this?
Both the LS and the old gold D2's are using the Terra Firma HD bars and are installed per the instructions. Nothing upside-down that I'm aware of.
You are indeed correct and I am wrong. Sorry about that!
@@martinhogan5970 you had me looking at diagrams and install videos for almost an hour making sure I didn't screw something up! 🤣

Wow, that’s a serious home for a car enthusiast! Long lead time on the LS build 😮
It seems like anything that could cause a delay on this project has happened. Fortunately the gold D2 is running great and it's been fun exploring trails with it since moving to Colorado. Hopefully the LSD2 is on the road this spring. I'll still have to fit out the interior once it arrives. But as you commented, I've got a great place to work on it!
That's a lot of money right there!!
It's almost ready for shipping to Colorado. bumpers and sliders are the last items to go on. It's definitely a keep forever truck with what I've spent so far!
@@RoverLanding-Adventures O wow. I'm in Colorado. Yes deff have to keep a vehicle like that. I'm in the dilemma now. Ls swap , pin the clys and rebuild or buy the sleeves and rebuild. I do the work myself but still a fortune. It's our fav mountain vehicle though so we'll deff keep it.
@@tbrinkley112 our gold D2 will stay Rover 4.6. But the engine that's in it is the best 4.6 I've ever seen. The rest of the frame may be rusting away on that D2 but the engine runs like new still!
