Bob's Biking Adventures! (And other stuff)

Enthusiastic amateur! (2024 edit: "GRAND CHALLENGE WINNING" enthusiastic amateur! 😅)
All the gear (well, most of the gear) and occasionally half an idea!
These videos hopefully show my passion for all things wheeled and powered. Particularly Adventure Biking, which is my number 1 thing to do, when I've got some free time.
I'm a fairly experienced (but pretty averagely skilled) rider. I'll give anything a go track, road or offroad and have fun doing it. I'm very good at falling off, these days.
I'm also an average but enthusiastic mechanic. When all else fails, my tools of choice are usually a big hammers and a credit card 😅.
I run a motorcycle club, so I am lucky to get the opportunity to do lots of bike related activities and experiences, throughout the year.
I've usually got several projects on the go I am unlikely to finish most of them..

Kove 450 Rally Dyno Power Run Testing: Standard + TRC Enduro ECU (Stock Exhaust) | BIG SURPRISE!
PART 1:
We ran 17 dyno runs testing the Kove 450 Rally on the Dynojet Dyno at Big CC Racing. The goals:
1) Discover the true wheel horsepower of the bike, as standard
2) Answer the question, "Can the TRC Enduro ECU be used with the stock exhaust?" The answer was a big surprise!
Thank you to Big CC Racing for indulging my idea. If you would like to test your bike, you can find their contact details on their website: bigccracing.com/
Thank you Kove Racing France, suppliers of the TRC ECU for excellent communication and customer service

The Kove is run in, so it was time for the first service. The nearest dealer to where I live is an hour and a bit away, so I decided to service it myself. Fred at Off The kerb (who sold me the bike) said that as long as the service is documented, the warranty is valid. So what better way to document it than a video. Impressions so far, very easy bike to work on. Amazing working on something whe...

Really good fun day out at Bedford Autodrome with #TrackObsession This MX-5 was properly sorted and was lapping really quickly. I followed it for a bit, then attempted a spirited lap, once it pulled back into the pits. The Subaru did really well, though in classic style, it did break down right at the end and need to be recovered on a flatbed. #Subarulife 😅

Thanks a lot for the studio, i really apreciate the next with titanium line exhaust
@@moteroforever yes indeed, I'm looking forward to testing that in the new year!
Awesome video thank you so much for this info!
@@blubbertalk ah thanks very much! More to come in the new year 👍
Invaluable video I keep here waiting from next one. Here my point I fit a TRC enduro ECU with OEM exhaust and middel section both with cat. First ride I was amazed how good it was compared to my OEM 42CV ECU. Facts an data exhaust exit was BLACK to much fuel, bike rides cooler because more fuel injected and more consum 1,5 litres more 😞. Second day the bike rode awfull ..... I decided to come back to OEM ECU afraid about cat degradation I see my thought was ok.Now I´m waiting for a full free cat exhaust line then I´ll try again,....
@@facatube very interesting! I was hoping to find someone who had ridden the bike with the TRC Enduro and standard exhaust and cat. I'm intrigued to see how it works with a more free flowing system, in the new year. Let me know how you get on, once you have a new exhaust!
Thanks for sharing this information. It's hard to get anything useful to make the bike with good preferences and without damage it. Much appreciated to you. I'm hardly waiting for research of TRC Enduro with foam filter + standard silencer+ decat. It would also be interesting to know how good is Coober ECU. I know that you may have limited possibilities, but we would like to know what is the best option for our bikes.
Thanks! I guess my possibilities are limited by how much money I want to spend, in the name of experimentation! That said, I'm interested to see what the differences are with the Coober, so it's entirely possible that I'll end up testing one. Maybe there will be a January sale on them! 🤞😅
@@firemanpeter2 update, I just ordered a Coober ECU 😅
@BobsBikingAdventures you already ordered it 😂 that is great news, not only for me but also for other riders. 😊 All this tests will be interesting to see and to know what is the best option. I'm not a fan of loud motorcycles, so I want to find out what can be achieved with an original silencer. Of course, it is difficult to fulfill every wish.
@firemanpeter2 I agree. I want to get out into the countryside, but I don't want to terrify the wildlife and perhaps more importantly, annoy other trail users (especially horses and their riders) with a really loud exhaust!
Hello from France and Thank you for your videos. I have a strict "euro 5" Kove. Personally, I find that it works well between 4000 and 8000 rpm. But between 2000 and 4000 rpm, when opening and closing the gas, it is too brutal, not progressive enough. If I could find an ECU programmer who can correct this defect, I would sign immediately. I contacted Akrapovic because they make efficient and relatively "quiet" exhausts, but no production for the moment.
@@jean-patktm9243 Salut! if you find a good solution, please let me know!
@@BobsBikingAdventures May be ECU enduro with line exhaust
@@moteroforever yes, the next test will be the TRC Enduro ECU with the race exhaust, then with the race exhaust decat pipe and standard silencer.
Great video Hope to see the next test Thank you
@@TecColsmp thank you! Will be in January some time, providing the bike and I survive our festive trip to Salisbury Plain! 😅
Great full that you doing this and creating the videos
@@mfthedronepoet9745 thanks, I appreciate the support! I'm having fun, too 😁
this is a great video, and a perfect sample of how many bullshi* products you can find online. good work. keep it rolling
@@cbrracing6752 thanks! Some might say I'm a sucker for a potentially bullshi* product! I've got a few interesting bits and bobs to try out. I figure if I can pretend it's all in the name of science, that's a reasonable excuse.. Either way, I'm having fun. 😅
The TRC ECU maps are definitely not "bullshi* products" the Enduro ECU is NOT compatible with the CAT exhaust, and not sold as such. I'm running the TRC Rallye ECU with full open system and it's by far the best map I've used to date. (I have tried too many) . The TRC Enduro map actually doesn't work well with the full open system either, it's intended for a de-cat with a quieter silencer. Hopefully this will be clear on the next video.
@OverlandTheSlowWay thanks for the feedback. The way Google Chrome translated the TRC Enduro listing, it was not 100% clear that a de-cat system was required. The Kove Racing / TRC folks have updated the wording, after we discussed the results of this test. My hope is to find the best combination of exhaust components and ECU for me, whilst helping people to make their own decisions on what's best for them (and have fun in the process!). I will definitely try the TRC Enduro ECU with the decat pipe and stock silencer. Thanks for the suggestion! If that doesn't work, I may well get the Arrow exhaust system, recommended for the TRC Enduro ECU, as it's quite reasonably priced. 😁
@@BobsBikingAdventures 👍
I had what looked like restricted power and rpm on my Husky 701, think it was the knobby tyre slipping.
@@RustyVanDoor yes, could also be a factor!
I'm thinking your kove isn't a euro 5 model? Just a regular/USA version?
@@SweetlakeFreestyle yeah it's the UK version. From what I've researched, it's the Euro 5 exhaust but not the Euro 5 airbox. It came with the more free-Flowing, yellow foam filter. I'm most intrigued to see whether a decat pipe, with the standard end can / silencer is a workable combination. Or if it needs to be the Race exhaust to get the benefit from the performance ECUs and if so, whether using a DB-killer messes up air fuel ratio or not. Many questions but so far, quite fun to work through them all. 😅
@@BobsBikingAdventuresthanks for your reply! I also wonder if your muffler is less restricted over my eur5 muffler. I've heard people say this... Maybe we can exchange pictures in a way to confirm?
I am very interested in your research. Tried Pro ECU, with and without Cat, Coober ECU and Kove USA decat ECU from Kove UK with standard SS silencer. This last set up feels the best of them all.
@@SweetlakeFreestyle happy to! If you're on there, drop me a message on Instagram and we'll figure it out 👍 instagram.com/bobsbikingadventures
@@donaldhobday4424 useful to know! Thanks! I'm enjoying figuring out the combinations and testing what's what. 👍
Very informative, eagerly waiting for part 2, and if you have the rally ecu as well!
@@Sxl3mWicca thanks! Yeah part two could be pretty interesting.
Has anyone got one of these in Australia yet
@@Bok2022st I'm sure I've seen a video of someone riding one in Western Australia. Would be a fantastic bike for bush exploration!
Possibly imported it from somewhere Bob I had spoken to many dealers in WA they basically give me a silly look like what the hell are you talking about man but yes looks like it would be a bit of fun was just curious whether some of these Chinese bikes are making it here I will keep looking and see what I can find so then I will just keep going on the KTM and the old storm💯👍
low and behold the next search I do yes they do sell them somewhere in Australia I don't know why these dealers were looking at me like they had never heard of the bike make you possibly know how temperamental, they can be these dealers.
@@Bok2022stah that's cool. Hopefully you can get yourself a test ride. I'd bet you'd be hooked! I've done a bit of 4x4 exploration around Noosa, Fraser Island etc. Would love to take a Kove for a blast up 75 mile beach! Though to be fair, I'd just be happy with some Aussie weather. @@eddydruppel3943 oh absolutely. I'm up for a challenge, but I'm not mad! 😅
Can you keep up posted how you find the new ECU. Really keep to know about this and it it relieves the snappy throttle when travelling slow on the UK trails
@@bigjonakasilverback532 sure can. I'm taking it to the dyno to test the stock (v1. 4) and TRC Enduro ECU, on the standard exhaust, then I'll do comparisons riding on road, offroad, maybe a bit of 0-60 performance testing. See what's what. Then I'm going to test the race ECU with the pro titanium exhaust, then the TRC Enduro ECU with that exhaust. Hopefully that should help me figure out my ideal setup and give others a bit of an idea on what might work for them.
@ cheers. Really interested as I find mine on the standard ECU really snatchy at low speeds
@bigjonakasilverback532 yes I agree. It's not the worst, but it feels like it could be smoothed out with a good map. I'm hoping the TRC Enduro ECU does that. If so, I'm hoping I can then run that with the Titanium decat pipe and the standard silencer and get something that rides well and isn't too loud. Will be fun to try all the combinations, along the way 😅
Nice set of Christmas gifts for the Kove. 😊 Can you share where did you buy the rack from?
Sure. This is the one I got, on a recommendation from another Kove owner. I've not fitted it yet but it comes with all the fixings, looks like it lines up well and is solidly built. Make sure to select the full kit from the listing options or you'll just get sent the side panels (like I did, first time 😅). It's the same as the Uncle Wang one. Likely same factory produced it. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EvLK9bA
You planning on being a guide Bob? I still haven't decided. Guide, Big Bike or Kove. Need to head up there for a recce next weekend and keep an eye on the longterm forecast
@@paulmorris7836 yep am signed up as a guide. I reckon the route I put together the other week is probably doable by beginners if I keep the pace down. Sticking some Michelin Trackers on the Kove after the dyno run next week though. Some of the bits where there's a thin layer of slick mud on top of hard packed dirt were a bit squirly on the CSTs, as was the wet chalk (though not much you can do about that 😅). I think Steve posted saying there are still 10+ guide spaces left, so definitely there if you want it!
@@BobsBikingAdventures Thanks Rob, a request has gone out on the TRF site as the event is sold out whilst waiting for guides. I need to try and get up there this Sunday on the AT as my knowledge of the Plain is limited to night time . Nice driving, car handles well. Got a track day there in december. How much power you running, was a really fast lap?
@@JamalPennant I don't know about fast, but it was probably my best of the day. I'd never been there before and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. The Scoob is fairly modestly powered. 330bhp ish, but decent torque from the Stroker engine at 400nm or so. Best thing is remarkably little turbo lag, thanks to standalone ECU and some Bob Rawle tuning magic. Are you at the Javelin day on 2nd Dec? HI, whats your thoughts about the bike on the road, live down south wales on the cost and it takes about a hour to get to any lanes. I was wondering how you are finding it on the road. I have a T7 and are looking for something a little bit lighter to fully enjoy the wet welsh countryside. thanks Rich.
@@richardandsarahpugh so far so good. The standard tyres are nice t half bad on the road. Very smooth and decently grippy. I'm still running the bike in, so not experienced the true performance yet, but it'll happily tick along at 60-70mph at 6k RPM, in 6th gear, so would be no bother covering a bit of road distance. The bars are unweighted and I believe the rimlocks are heavy, so there is a bit of vibration through the bars at motorway speed. I'm going to be balancing the wheels, replacing the rimlocks with some alloy ones and fitting an AliExpress steering damper, that looks just like the Scott one. So I reckon that'll really smooth things out at higher speeds. Really engaging bike to ride on tarmac. Feels more like a supermoto than an adventure bike. I'm loving it, to be honest!
@@BobsBikingAdventures If you're going to take it off road it most certainly needs the damper when the conditions are slippery. Check out Uncle Wangs for accessories. Easy to go crazy here.

Or more like.....oh there is something but i expected more....as there are different versions out there, just to clarify the UK spec: Foam airfilter + cat + EU5 silencer + which map? Sorry but i don´t have a test ride option nearby...
@@riscracing5538 I'll have to come back to you on that one. For the running-in period I'm riding the Kove on partial throttle and sticking under 6k RPM. The mid range pickup, riding in this manner, is almost surprisingly good. I'd say a decent 30%-40% better than the CRF. What I'm not sure about is how much is left in the higher RPMs or how much more shove is available mid-range on wide open throttle. I'm hoping it will be fun (and not disappointing) to find out. 😅 The biggest thing for me at the moment is the weight. I find myself trying to wrestle it through the corners, like I would my Africa Twin, which doesn't work because there's no weight, so no need. On the last ride, I started to relax and let it flow. Tried to ride it more like a 250 Enduro bike and it responded positively. Probably doesnt help that the evenings are now dark and usually wet! 😅
Add deleting the Euro5 intake when you install your ECU and TI exhaust. I didn't recall you mentioning that as part of the mod package.🤙
@@jesses1589 no Euro 5 intake on the UK model. Big foam one as standard, as you can see when I take the seat off 😁👍
@@BobsBikingAdventures It sounded like the standard intake when I watched you riding later into the video, too. I'll be back to follow your mods "down the road". I'm across the pond awaiting the first shipments of 800xs. I've preordered a Rally model, they're expected January of next year. 😉
@@jesses1589 fantastic! They look a great bike too. Will definitely check out any vids you out up on that one. I'm thinking of trying to be (unusually for me 😅) scientific about the bike's performance and any improvements. There's a motorcycle dyno not far from me. Usually dynos drag bikes, but I'm hoping I can convince him to strap the Kove on there!
@jesses1589 check out this pic. Definitely no restriction on the intake! photos.app.goo.gl/sEDe2D2LvkZ9dLWy9
Great roundup and good insights - and interesting to see we both pasted the CRF 😂 I completely forgot to factor in cost too.
I really wasn't expecting it to be so bland and wallowy. Given how taut the CRF 250 / 300 Enduro bikes are. Still think the answer for me is the Kove, though there's debate as to whether it's actually under the A2 power limit. Might have to take mine to the dyno and find out. 😅
@@BobsBikingAdventures If you did a set of YT vids doing dyno before and after performance mods you might be the first!
@@justanothermotorcyclist that's not a bad idea. With Big CC Racing's dyno just down the road in Wokingham, that could be a fun experiment that's also conveniently close to my house!
@@BobsBikingAdventures +1 Please do it 😁 I do not understand there are so many reviews for the KOVE out on YT and literally NO one (and i have seen a lot of them from different markets/countries) put it on the dyno before and after modding....i´m still waiting for a dyno video but it seems i have to buy a Kove and do it myself 🤣 Have fun and enjoy your Rally! Acc. to Dyno charts from some aftermaket ECU / exhaust manufacturers it should be below the A2 limit of 48hp although Kove claim 38KW/51hp.... Riding a modded 250Rally myself and heavily tempted to change to the Kove i agree your statement about the bike and suspension/rear shock. You have to invest a bit more money into the suspension and an mapped ECU and then the bike is as good as a 250 could be. Especially mapping wakes up the very stringed engine. It´s very easy to ride , utterly reliable, the best beginner bike if you are starting offroading. You can go everywhere on a budget. If you get more advanced the more you feel it is a bit small for the larger eurpean rider (above 1,80m) and it lacks bit of power. Just out of interest i´ve test ridden the VOGE 300 Rally as well / as also the CRF 300 Rally. I would place the Voge on 6th and Honda on 5th ;-) The engine of the Voge was way more viby then the engine of the CRF.......but if you compare the sales tag as well it is beating the CRF i have to admit... CRF 300 Rally was a disappointment for me.....engine more viby than the 250.....power was nearly the same.....Chassis geometry was wonky...not worth the change from the 250. Honestly if the Kove 450 Rally had been in the market in 2020 when i bought the CRF......i would not have bought the CRF... and never even looked at it although it is still afun bike to ride and never let me down.
@@riscracing5538 interesting to hear your thoughts on the CRF. I've ridden the CRF 250 and 300 Enduro bikes and they're brilliant. So I was genuinely surprised by how different the Rally felt. I'm absolutely sure they can be made super capable, for not a lot of money though. As you say, a rear shock and a map and it'd be near on perfect. I'm 183cm and the Kove is a good fit, though I do have to remember that the ground is slightly further away than when on the Africa Twin. Will take a bit of getting used to😅. I'm going to get in touch with Big CC Racing and see if I can get a Dyno session scheduled. Will give me a target to get the running in miles and first service out the way!
Happy New Bike Day 🙂
Thanks dude 😎👍
Happy new bike day mate, looking forward to seeing where it takes you!
@@blaynehumphrey3198 thanks very much!
Legend has it that its impossible not to giggle at your own bike under Pangbourne station bridge. Watching this with great interest 😎
Haha you may very well be right. No wonder there's a Lamborghini and an Aston Martin garage right next to it... And a train station for the rest of us 😅
@@BobsBikingAdventures 🤣
It sounds so good no matter what you do with it, worth the £ks for the noise alone !
Yeah it's a proper growl!
how much was your bag support? I’m trying to get one for my hps too but don’t know which one to go with
@@pot_the_potato1088 this is the updated version of the one I got. They're decent quality for the price. s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EyCEi5T
