Welcome to Mama Goes Eventing :)
Follow my journey back from over 20 years out of the saddle with my amazing big brown pony, Johnny. Watch as I try to give this eventing malarky a decent shot before I am too old.
2024 - stepping up to BE90 with the hope of BE100 being possible at the end of this season/beginning of next
An honest account of what it's like to event when you're a bit old; a bit fat; a bit poor and VERY anxious
Also featuring cameos from Miss Rebecca the naughty Shetland pony

I think you are very brave to go to an event on your own with no support i wouldnt have the balls to do it thats for sure. Xx
@@harrietoram293 ah thank you, you get used to it and it's either go alone or don't go!
I fell off once....twice....three tiiimes a lady....

Fantastic 👏 Johnny is looking lush, so shiny
@@fullerhorsediary aw thank you!
Well done. Here's to even more success in the future.
@@kippen64 thanks so much
It always makes me sad to hear someone say they are cross with their horse. It’s never the horses fault you know!
@@susanvuturo4361 sorry that's the bit you focused on, I try to be as open and honest as I possibly can be with how I am feeling. I don't ever think it's his fault totally but it was a difficult lesson and it upset me.
I think you're both right. Feeling cross is a completely human emotion and it's disngenuinous and unhelpful not to admit it and Sara being honest about here is helpful to other people who get cross and then feeling guilty about it. Anger isn't a bad emotion if dealt with carefully. It is a brilliant source of energy if processed correctly. We all find our animals infuriating at times. But also, no it's definitely never the animal's fault. They are basically all frustrating toddlers. You have to confront the feeling of anger so you can work through it and react towards them with kindness and learn from it.
@@fleabug well stated.
@@fleabug much more comprehensive and articulate than me. Me being "cross" at Johnny means I continue to look after him to the very best of my abilities, always. His health and happiness is it absolutely the no.1 priority. Apologies if this has not come across.
Wahooo well bloody done you legend 🎉 was worried about the start with the tail incident 😂 but you pulled it out the bag. 👌🏽
@@onceinaboomoon yeah that was a low moment 😂
Well done Sara on the double clear and getting in 6th! It was a lovely course and setting, good timing getting the XC complete before the weather turned too! Qualifying for Bramham would be epic. I thought I saw you there on Saturday (I was watching the show jumping that day). Now I clocked your number I saw your show jumping round and got a photo of you and Johnny going over fence 5B on XC on Sunday. :)
@@martyp2138 aw thank you so much, I'd love to see the picture!

Thanks for subbing! Means lots!
Loved this, well done you! Also, please don't take this the wrong way, but I love watching slightly older people doing vlogs (I mean people not in their 20's) it gives me so much motivation being in my 30's! So thank you x

Super well done! That first XC fence was causing carnage all weekend!! Fantastic result 🎉
Yes it was! Made it all the more sweeter to have gone clear! Xx thanks so much for watching x
So had to pause your video to comment on your lesson - I’d recognise that voice anywhere!!!!!and he will now be addressed as “The big DG” 😂😂

Well done Sara and of course Johnny!! Gutted I never knew this event was on last weekend as its fairly local, was at Hopetoun BE trials a few weeks back.

Cheers to that! X
And this is why it's always good to drop a level to get that confidence and buzz back! Well done you!
Thank you!
Just discovered your channel. Am now subscribed. Your son is better at videoing than me.
Ah ha! Thank you
Bugger, but you are out there doing it!! Well done, I thought your dressage was actually better than your score. Love your very real video! Subscribed 😊 Smashed the hunter trial!
Ah thanks so much and welcome along for the ride!
Well done! I'd never stop chatting to my horse in the arena or on hacks lol He's a lovely boy.
Thanks!
What a kind and gentle and honest horse this is. He just doesn't make it look dramatic he just is a worker. Fabulous safe animal who looks as though he enjoys his work. Ride quietly with lots of leg and hand support but really he's point and shoot.
He is a lovely chap x
Loved watching this! I chat to my Dinosaur in every phase...I think it remind me to breath :) This round has inspired me to kick on tomorrow, and get the post XC buzz.
Oh yay!good luck for the weekend and KICK ON!
Well done! Don’t stop chatting to him during XC, so cute and you can hear the delight in your voice!
Thanks so much for your comment, I didn’t realise how high-pitched I was but I do love chatting to him
😂😂
😂
That’s very strange that he doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself. Most horses find the cross country to be the most fun. Maybe some cross-country schooling lessons?
Omg!! Brilliant show jumping round. What a lovely rhythm and brilliantly ridden!!! Totally agree with your own comments on XC the one she jumped you round lovely as he flew them!! Water = scary….no likey!!!! You know I think you’re awesome and I love Johnny!!! Keep going….it always 5 steps forward and 10 back…but just keep going!!! Xxx
Mwah Mwah xx
He looks rather dead to the leg and resentful and your over riding just compounds. He needs to up fitness, get lighter and lift through his frame. He’s got obvious ability but I don’t think you two are on the same page in your partnership. Great idea to drop back right back and start from the ground up. Ground work can light him up whilst giving him leadership and direction without having to resort to the stick when all else is failing. Take it as a reset moment in order to achieve 100 with ease. Steve Young horsemanship is worth a watch for ground work brilliance.
Hi there from to hot Florida! Had to comment because I too moved up in height and got the big "E"!!! But i knew I would after walking the XC , My horse and I just don't have enough practices on the bigger jumps, he's the kind to go with caution rather than bravery right now and as I chicken out if I feel him looking and questioning a jump he"ll slam on brakes! So I move him to a farm with a XC course too overcome these issues and I'm enjoying the journey!! Take the time to get the confidence for you both, and enjoy the process!
Ah we will both get there eventually!
He did not have the usual xcountry eagerness at the start box and beyond . Guess you will sort out if he looks forward to it as much as you do and want to do! Kudos to you! Take your time to find out so does not need not so much urging on your part . Has he done eventing in younger years? Following you from across the pond.
He's only 7 and neither of us had evented before, he's not the type to drag me about the place, that's not his style!
Ahh I feel your pain! Good on you to show all your ups and down and that you keep going!!
Ah thanks!
Lovely horse. To me he looks like he just needs to get fitter and stronger. He moves well, jumps well and seems to have a willing personality. Eventing needs a lot of strength and endurance. Do you ever take him to the gallops?
I don't go regularly actually but I think I will try to do more, thanks so much for commenting and watching!
Nice video except on the cross country I only heard one 'good boy' ....think a little bit more praise & encouragement wouldn't hurt. ❤
Sorry about that, he definitely doesn't go without praise I promise!
A great test 👍 you're doing a brilliant job 👏. ....oh btw is your car left hand drive.....or is it the video? Xxx
Thank you for watching and commenting! No it's RHD
Honestly, it’s so refreshing to see someone real that isn’t perfect every second of the vlog, because real horse life isn’t perfect all the time! Looking forward to joining along in your journey ❤
Oh God stick around, thing are rarely perfect here 😂 thanks so much for watching! Glad to have you along for the ride!
Love your honesty, you might see this as a fail but I would like to learn from it 😂 I’m interested in what your coach might have to say and I look forward to seeing how far you both will come in a years time, keep it up surely it can only get better
Ah thanks so much for commenting, I'll keep you posted!
