Laurie Santos: The Happiness Professor on the science of well-being
Laurie is a Professor of Psychology at Yale University. In addition to her work on the evolutionary origins of human cognition, Laurie is an expert on the science of happiness and the ways in which our minds lie to us about what makes us happy. Her Yale course, Psychology and the Good Life, teaches students how the science of psychology can provide important hints about how to make wiser choices and live a life that’s happier and more fulfilling. The class became Yale’s most popular course in over 300 years. The online version of the class-The Science of Well-Being on Coursera-has attracted more than 4 million students. She was recently voted as one of Popular Science Magazine’s “Brilliant 10” young minds and was named in Time Magazine as a “Leading Campus Celebrity.” Her podcast, The Happiness Lab, has attracted over 100 million downloads since its launch.
Some interesting insights from this episode:
· Our minds lie to us when it comes to happiness.
· There is the sense of being happy in your life and the sense of being happy with your life.
· Investing in social relationships is the most important thing we can do to improve our happiness.
· If you force yourself to be more social, even if it’s natural to you, you’ll actually experience more positive emotions as a result.
· Beyond social connections, practicing gratitude and helping others are also tools to increase your overall wellbeing.
· There’s a disconnect between the things that we want and the things that we truly enjoy.
· The arrival fallacy is thinking that you’ll be happy once you achieve some goal but that happiness is often fleeting.
· The journey is ultimately much more rewarding than the destination. Learn to enjoy it.
· “Excellence is behaving and developing mindsets in a way that allows you to flourish.”

EXCELLENT INTERVIEW
Wonderful interview, loved every minute
Hello im a fan of bears, specially prehistoric ones, and I wonder.what is the fastest, and bigges/tallest bearish specimen ever existed (megatherium, short faced bear, kodiak, polar, even "chalicotherium"( a mixture of bear+horse). What bear was the strongest ever? Too ,The tallest one on all history, the heaviest at Body Mass Index, the lightest at same, the.worst badass tempered, and the biggest at claws and teeth. Besides...how.much per cent extra could grow the most giantic bear ever, who suffered of the extremest giantism (genetic alteration). To sum.up...the tallest, the heaviest, the.lightest, and the fiercest bear ever existed (not only the specie, but too the rarest out of common average bear on those parameters). Thank you for your work, so evocating for all bears and animals lovers

Great interview!!!
ITS NASA, NOT NASS-SAW
I'm not even a pilot, yet know about a little thing called "dead reckoning." So how did, not just one, but 2 pilots not realize they haven't flown enough west to clear the mountain range.
Good question! The answer is gross professional misconduct. The Captain had flown this route 29x before. He was training the co-pilot, therefore, presumably??? watching his every move. (evidently not!). The co-pilot turned north after only 3 minutes instead of the 11 needed to reach Curico. They did NOT reach the Planchon Pass or Curico. They did not reach Chilean airspace & were still in Argentina. Air traffic control at Malargue had handed them over to Santiago, who didn't yet know where they were. Yet, despite this, they gave the co-pilot permission to descend to make an approach to Santiago! How could this possibly happen? The crash was completely avoidable & should never have happened. There was no mechanical failure. The cause was pilot error & professional negligence, both on the part of the pilots & the Santiago ATC.
You prolly dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown =)
