Time Teams not the same without Phil!
This is the same person who reneged on Tommy Robinson having visitors, even if they'd signed an NDA.
I am firmly of the opinion that Philip Harding is deserving of a Knighthood from King Charles 111. Phil's services to the archaelogical record, his time-served uncovering ancient history and the public's perception of him, in regards to his bringing awareness, understanding and huge interest to them, leaves an idelible mark of utter, unselfish professionalism. "Baldric" was given a Knighthood for his services, for which he is deserving. However, without Phil to guide him and teach him not to jump down into, or walk across, open archaelogical dig trenches, the "horrid little man" might yet be cuddling his preferred find, "A Turnip, my Lord". Please, your Majesty, award Philip Harding a Knighthood.
Phil is such a legend. His raw enthusiasm for archeology and history is what I find so appealing. He's like a cool Uncle that you love to have him share stories with you.
Time Team was an excellent show, I still watch it. It combined good Archeology and some terrific characters.
Great to hear Phil, passing on his story
Cool
Just started watching old ones again classic tv, great interview
We all feel like Phil is an old friend, who taught us so much about history, flint and shades of dirt. Thank you Phil for your dedication and passion, it was truly infectious.
What a great man Phil Harding ia 🙌
I'm from CT in the US, I love Phil in Time team. He always made me laugh or smile. Thank you Phil.
awesome interview with Phil Harding, thank you for posting.
California girl here, of course Time Team has made an impact…! We don’t have the archeology here like you do… no surprise the fascination your work provides! Well done, Dr Harding well done!!
Classic flannel from a University graduate who joined on the accelerated promotion route, who did minimal time as a normal grade officer with a promotional path laid out in advance. Talks about the Cat A and B prisoners and even talks about Cat D who would be in an open prison. TR must be a cat D. The fact she hasn't criticised him being incarcerated at her prison shows she is a weak leader at heart. I heard her brand of BS 30 years ago.
i gave up and keeping telling my self lies to this day
Bless you Phil. Your passion for archeology influenced me to such an extent that whilst I'm roguing wheat fields in the summer I'm also roguing pottery sherds. I always go home heavier. I also enjoy very much your Waterloo investigations, hard not to with such passionate and enthusiastic input. Simply thank you Phil Harding, I salute you.
What a pleasure!
This was very confusing. I stopped because I recognised the guy from time team and was like whoa not seen his face in years! And he talked about the show made archeology accessible to more people and I agreed with him and then suddenly I’m listening a woman talk about the Taliban?! and someone else suddenly talking about AI - and I’m what is going on, what is happening, what is this short???? 🤣 it’s a podcast of some sort but damn, maybe just have 1 person saying their bit and then advertise that they’re on a podcast because now I’m wondering if these 3 people are in the same episode of the pod cast and they’re not listening to each other, just talking about whatever they feel like in the moment - who’s the host? It’s very confusing is what I’m getting at; all the best - fascinating topics all the same though 🙌☀️
Love him on Time Team.
Phil's mistake is that he thinks everybody knows what they want to do in life. Not everybody has the same kind of passion for anything as he has for archaeology.
I started watching from canada back in 2004-5
Phil became a dramatic TV star and made a fat wage, but he doesn't respect giants in his field. I appreciate his experience and knowledge, but he is not a giant. My understanding is that he snubbed Bruce Bradley, of Exeter University, with major accomplishments in Solutrean and Paleoindian archaeology. Bruce Bradley was very close to Dennis Stanford, curator of the Smithsonian Institution and both were instrumental in developing the field of experimental archaeology. Phil has done much topnotch archaeology of the British Isles, but he has no knowledge of the rest of the world. I appreciate his notions of what's going on on the ground, but he should be better about collaboration with giants in archaeology who are not from Wiltshire. As an archaeologist, I have profound notions, but I depend upon others to balance my notions. I'm afraid that Phil's cups have taken the top position over his objectivity. I'd prefer to discuss this subject with him, in person. Perhaps over a few pints, but we must be reasonable!
Archeology’s us touching immortality
To the late great Phil Aston and his colorful sweaters. 🥂🍾
Brilliant interview, fabulous man absolute legend. I still love watching on old time team episodes. I think I need to find his book.
Team Team introduced me to Phil and I have loved him ever since. I have rewatched the classic show so many times I can almost repeat them word by word. I miss him. I will always adore him. Thank you Phil for all you have given the Time Team and me.
17 suicides since2013. Treat Tommy Robinson with humanity. Keep him safe. This is not Russia he should be free not locked up. 🏴🇬🇧🙏
I had the misfortune to hear this clown on the radio earlier. I'd never heard of him before and I'm astounded that a pathological moron like Matthewson has a career as a political commentator; a sixth form politics student would have more understanding and nouse.
Please, release Tommy Robinson.

What a sell out you are. You disgust us!! "Just doing your job"?? Pathetic!!
When watching Time Team, I always had the sneaking suspicion that Phil was in fact a real-life Anglo Saxon who somehow came back to life
Interesting. The October 28 (2024) issue of the New Yorker has a great article on the rare book dealer Glenn Horowitz. Worth a read.
I wish they had talked more about his Time Team colleagues, and his memories of specific episodes. The show opened so many people's eyes about archeology, and made it real.
Gr8 Interview
Mark,I thank you so much for bringing Phil to us for a chat, very educational and motivational for all of us listening to it.I love Phil for what he does and done in the past .Cheers Laz
Time Team on UA-cam was my incredibly addictive gateway drug to UK history, and now here I am knee-deep in Marc Morris' books on the Anglo-Saxons and the Norman Conquest and anticipating the arrival of Guy de la Bedoyere's book on Roman Britain. I didn't grow up with Time Team in the US, nor was I exposed to detailed British history in school; I mean, we were taught about the Battle of Hastings and William the Conqueror but nothing in great details. It's a fascinating experience to come to it as a clean slate, with no preconceptions. I'd kill for a book about stone age Britain written by Phil.
Phil you are a great man and I am so glad I met you and was able to talk to you and see your "Banging Rocks" workshop at Salisbury, in October 2015 - I am interested in knowing more about the book you have put together. Thank you!
Thank You Phil, and Andy Manning, I loved your "Banging Rocks" workshop back in 2015...how do I get an autographed book?
Phil is one of my greatest heroes! (Heritage Heroes)!!
I will never get tired of listening to Phil Harding!
She is stunning beautiful and has the most attractive body ever for a white women her age
Imagine when Phil is gone.. I dont want to see a world without this amazing man
