Personally pretty mixed on the seeming decision to restart the card game. It sucks the cards I collected will be unplayable in the new form, but the at the same, as one of the few people that ACTUALLY plays this card game, it really is a fucking mess. Icons changing from set to set on multiple occasions, icons being too small to make out on earlier cards, the largely arbitrary and overly complicated type advantage wheel and type bloat in general, badly balanced effects, the meta effect gimmick being kinda bad; an overhauled version with simpler effects, less types, and tighter gameplay would be really appreciated. I'm not sure how many would actually care in that regard as the vast majority that care about metazoo only collect or speculate (at one point in time) rather than play, but then again maybe people would play if the gameplay wasn't kinda dogshit like it is. Also, I hope they still go ahead with the SCP set somewhere down the line. I don't care for crossover stuff usually but SCP fits with the game's theme very well and would be probably the best way to get positive attention with a relaunch.

I think it's totally possible to replicate and improve the art style with different artists, but it's critical that they not fuck up the old design too much. I want watercolors and I want the red borders back. And Mothman was basically perfect and cannot be improved so just reprint it.

This was the whole intent of Pokemon, was to get Metazoo out of Pokemon's way, to global dominance of the TCG world. What the biggest players in the TCG world don't realize, is by making Metazoo less relevant, is only going hurt them as well, Metazoo is alive and well on eBay just for less money, that's another thing the biggest TCG players didn't like about Metazoo, is a New start up commanding high prices, for their cards on the secondary market like on eBay, this is only looking more like Pokemon, and the biggest TCG players paid MW to go away. Metazoo had all their potential ahead of them, but Pokemon and the biggest TCG players, couldn't let that happen. That's why metazoo always had haters from the beginning, to stop Metazoos momentum in the TCG world,

I hope they do a whole revamp bc fuck it why not.

You know how this plays out. The reboot makes the old stuff valuable. They blow up the new stuff and slowly influx the old stuff to collectors at the much higher prices. Smart move.

Hope the new Metazoo sets change up the foils b/c I don't really like the reverse holo with it or maybe I just don't like the reverse holo at all. Can't wait to see the new artwork of the new sets. Will they make modern artwork of the previous design? They should also make a collector sets that not for playing but for understanding the backgrounds of each creature they have in Metazoo.

I hope their first order of business is sending out “MZO medals” to all of the MZOs who never got them 😢😂

Metazoo is investor-bait, has been from the start. Sure some kids and parents got sucked into it, but the gameplay is junk, the art is junk, and it all comes off as low effort pokemon ripoff from public domain spooky stories. The fact someone paid for this IP is going to be the most profitable thing about it.

The old card game was silly nonsense They based it off goofy magic the gathering sets the Un sets. It needs to be reworked.

The accelerated timeline implies they were planning the new set earlier this year, even before the sale went through. I'll be impressed if they can pull it off and deliver a reboot of quality in such a short time!

They talk about people gathering for games and building games. Will metazoo refocus on making a great game and less on just printing the brand in items to sell?

Totally get the decision of starting from scratch. Makes designing sets much easier when you have complete control over what is played. This will be a great American comeback story. As for the old product it is now just purely based on collecting. Which is great since collectors can get both versions of a card and hold different pieces of MZ history.

There's no indication that the old tcg cards will hold or increase value. The cards are not scarce and the demand will further plummet, 2 items that determine value. I look forward to see what the new game brings, though i will probably only jump onto the virtual playing of the game and grab some singles. Best of luck to MetaTwo

MetaTwo: Magic just became even realer

As mainly a player of tcgs a full reboot that doesn't have the 4th wall effects and redone gameplay would be the best bet.

If the old cards are invalid for game play then I will probably be out. I was pumped for the sale and re-launch of MetaZoo but I feel disappointed hearing this news.

Okay. Let me say this to everyone who might not understand… With the exemption of Digimon, there has never really been a rival to Pokémon, especially in the TCG space. Digimon did experience a revival but it’s not quite there and I don’t think at this point, it will be. This makes a lot of sense for a hard reboot. Especially with the concept of what MetaZoo was. I mean…can you guys imagine MetaZoo with the QUALITY art work that comes with MtG or even Pokémon now? The original card interface is somewhat convoluted. It has to be cleaned up and streamlined to compete in the market. I can see them doing away with Terras and perhaps the “4th wall” mechanic or at least revising it because that was the only “gimmicky” thing in the game, imo. They’re just going to make the game better and much more simple. I think the game will just be called “Meta Zoo TCG”, not MetaTwo and I do believe that it’s going to be a force to be reckoned with. Mark my words right here. 100%. As for the existing product, it wouldn’t make sense for them to destroy it, just solely on the fact that there are serialized numbered cards and that there still exists a fan base. I’d expect a huge sale and huge losses but, we never know how the market is going to behave. Either way, this is a huge win and I’m pretty excited for the IP to return under competent and professional means.

If a game is trying to be “like” another game, you already know it’s going to fail.

everything will come down to how much of this stuff is printed. if its a lot because they are over confident in their success, metatwo will come and go.

So excited for a new game with the metazoo IP. The original game was pretty bad. And definitely wasn't kid friendly. Hopefully they are so wealthy that they won't mind destroying a lot of the product they bought. Just means they'll have the funds to work through the tough times.

Starting from scratch is the best thing for the game. New card designs and game mechanics. The game was broken fundamentally and way to complicated. If this new company focuses on how the game can be played by younger players and novice TCG players, the game should have a chance. Excited to see what happens as the saga continues

That is all good news. Bought up the IP and put it to better use, after the old game crashed and failed. Rather than let it gather dust in the dust bin, this will be a new start for what may wind up being a better TCG than the original. (which wasn't great to play to be honest).

Shout Out To All You Fake Fudges Who Are Now Supporting Metazoo! Viva Metazoo!

It's smarter to first build up the brand and then sell the original products they hold at a later point once the brand has gained value as collector pieces. Dumping them now for next to nothing makes no sense especially if they plan to build a game anyway that will increase the vale of what they hold.
