Sadly, we don't understand the way to grow up in Christ as presented in the teaching above. You're teaching people to grow spiritually through human effort, a work of the flesh, when in fact God is trying to get us to lose all hope of making ourselves righteous so that Christ can become our "All and in all" and the source of our righteousness. We grow spiritually by becoming nothing in self. As we "die" to the fallen flesh-life, which includes ceasing our attempts at making ourselves righteous or holy, then Christ through His Spirit has more room to possess in our hearts. And if then through continual obedience to the Spirit, who is tasked with making us a new creation in Christ, He will bring us all "to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ." (Eph. 4:13) God even supplies the faith and gives the grace necessary to make it a reality, and not because we read it in the Bible, the written word, and so claim it as ours, but because Jesus Christ, the Living Word, by the Spirit is making Himself and His kingdom an experiential reality in our heart (soul), which He created as a temple, a dwelling place for Himself. (1Cor. 3:16), (2 Cor. 6:16) Our prayer should be - "Father, reveal your Son in me," and not us trying to memorize Scripture verses as the power to overcome temptations etc. Everything we need for life and godliness is in the life and nature of Jesus Christ, not in the words in the Bible! The Bible is a testimony of Jesus Christ and like John the Baptist, it's purpose is to point us to the true Source of power and victory. The Bible, on every page as it were is declaring, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin (self-will) of the world!" (John 1:29) How many more believers have to throw up their hands in despair and actually leave the faith because rather than helping them understand that God is trying to bring everyone to a place of losing all hope of growing up spiritually through their own best efforts, including what you're calling "spiritual disciplines" and John Wesley called "means of grace" as a means for "putting on the Lord Jesus Christ," they're erroneously being taught to do it through human works. But we cannot deliver ourselves from "self" so that we can be clothed with Christ. Deliverance must come from a Source outside of ourselves, and that Deliverer is Christ, not words about Christ or even from Christ. God actually has to resist all attempts to be righteous through the works of the flesh, human effort. Dallas Willard was correct in his observation that his way of teaching "disciplines" in the Christian faith led to pride. It always has and it always will when "self" is involved. And it inevitably leads to pride in the way it was taught in the message above. It will always lead to pride, and God must always resist it because "God resists the proud..." The apostle Paul would be saying the following to all who teach a work of the flesh as a means for growing up spiritually, and it's also a reason for the lack of power in the Body of Christ - "O foolish Galatians (Christians)! Who has bewitched you...This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh {human effort}? (Gal. 3:1-3) God help us!
Amen

Always such a blessing to hear you preach, Paul. May God continue to bless your ministry.
Sorry but a relationship with words, even the words in the Bible, cannot change your nature from flesh to spirit, or the mind into the "mind of Christ." Only a relationship with the Living Word has the power to do that. Why do you call the Scriptures the word of God when the Scriptures call Jesus the Word?!
Thank you for this challenging message!
Thank you for this. Was very helpful and wonderfully done..
