This should've been used as the theatrical ending of Aladdin.

This freaked me out for a second. Jafar says “things aren’t always what they seem” when in disguise. For a second I thought Jafar was still around even though he’d been trapped in the lamp. I just barely remember thinking as a kid that the peddler and disguised old man Jafar were the same because their voices were a bit similar.

I remember a similar scene at the end of the movie when I was little watching it for the first time in the theater

This should’ve been the official ending. It would’ve brought the whole movie full circle.

I think I like this version of the ending better. I'll always like the moon scene. But this was cool. :-)

Jeffrey Katzenberg is an idiot for assuming people would be getting up and leaving at this point and therefore saying that's the reason this needed cut. Ron Clements explained this is what happened and disagreed with the decision on the Aladdin Director DVD commentary.

Well the merchant wears blue ropes with a red belt. Like the genie. I thought it was a coincidence, but I was right 😅

Why did they delete this? It's too perfect to be deleted, considering both the Genie and the merchant are voiced by Robin Williams. It also could've been a good ending for Aladdin and the King of Thieves

I read they changed this because they thought they could do more in the sequel with the genie keeping his posts, but I don’t see why the peddler couldn’t have just been the genie in disguise. At least in the musical the genie narrates the story.

I think the actual ending, where the "made ya look" scene was, was where they scrapped that scene from winding up into the final movie and replaced it with the Genie saying what he said.

The Genie and The Peddler are the same person, even in the movie.

Well damn, why didn't they make this the ending? The moon ending was kinda funny, but I would have liked to learn that the Genie was telling the tale the whole time.

Not that I do not like the ending they put in the final version of the movie, but I like this version of the ending much better.

I wonder why they didn't keep this ending? It creates a rather nice bookend to the beginning of the film. The peddler's presence at the beginning seems slightly meaningless without it.

Yup. The Peddler and The Genie of the Lamp are voiced by the exact same voice actor Robin Williams.
