Hello. My M.O. is to do bass covers of songs that generally no one else has done. Mostly older rock and probably some obscure songs. My plant friend Leif will continually monitor the progress along the way.
1964 - The Beatles release "A Hard Day's Night" in the US. The title comes from a phrase Ringo Starr came up with.
Ringo explained: "We went to do a job, and we'd worked all day and we happened to work all night. I came up still thinking it was day I suppose, and I said, 'It's been a hard day...' and I looked around and saw it was dark so I said, 'Night!' So we came to 'A Hard Day's Night'"
Thoughts 2 ponder;
There have been 100+ billion people roam the earth in the last 250,000 years or so. Each has lived in the most modern time.
Every thought you have is either a memory or a desire.
"A man can surely do what he wills to do, but cannot determine what he wills"
“We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out."
-Decca, in 1962, rejectingThe Beatles.

Creatures Of Love. Talking Heads. Bass cover.
Talking Heads were an American rock band formed in New York City during 1975.
Described as "one of the most critically acclaimed groups of the '80s," Talking Heads helped to pioneer new wave music by combining elements of punk, art rock, funk, and world music with "an anxious yet clean-cut image"; they have been called "a properly postmodernist band."
Along with other groups such as Devo, Ramones, and Blondie, they helped define the new wave genre in the United States.
In 2002, Talking Heads were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Four of their albums appeared on Rolling Stone's 2003 list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time", and three of their songs-"Psycho Killer", "Life During Wartime", and "Once in a Lifetime"-were included among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. The band also ranked number 64 on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". In the 2011 update of Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time", they were ranked number 100.
In 1973, Rhode Island School of Design students David Byrne (guitar and vocals) and Chris Frantz (drums) formed a band, the Artistics. Fellow student Tina Weymouth, Frantz's girlfriend, often provided transportation. The Artistics dissolved the following year, and the three moved to New York City, eventually sharing a communal loft. After they were unable to find a bassist, Weymouth took up the role. Frantz encouraged Weymouth to learn to play bass by listening to Suzi Quatro albums. Byrne asked Weymouth to audition three times before she joined the band.
"I try to write about small things. Paper, animals, a house… love is kind of big. I have written a love song, though. In this film, I sing it to a lamp". - David Byrne, interviewing himself in Stop Making Sense.
From 'Little Creatures', their sixth studio album released June 10th, 1985. The album examines themes of Americana and incorporates elements of country music, with many songs featuring steel guitar. It was voted album of the year in The Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll, and is the band's best-selling studio album, with more than two million copies sold in the United States. The cover art was created by outsider artist Howard Finster, and was selected as album cover of the year by Rolling Stone.

He was known for his powerful and soulful voice, his sartorial elegance, and his stylistic explorations, combining soul, funk, jazz, rock, pop, reggae, and blues. His 1986 song "Addicted to Love" and its accompanying video came to "epitomise the glamour and excesses of the 1980s". Good story he...

Sunday flashback #1. This song was #1 for George Harrison, this date, January 19th, 1988. It has been very well covered so I thought I would do the original version that maybe few have even heard. The Four Horsemen were an American hard rock band who enjoyed brief popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Fantastic!! Love this rarely heard tune!! Hey!! I found another oldie but a goodie with a FANTASTIC bass line. My Generation of music. From 1997. Alana Davis' "32 Flavors". I think you will be impressed and may I place one more request?? Lol 😂 ✌️🏳️🌈✌️
Thank you! On first listen it sounds quite intricate. I have the next few days lined up but i will give it a better listen and see if it's in y ability. Appreciate the request.
@HardDayzKnight No problem, Sir!! Appreciate the hard work!! Thanks very much!!
Great choice! Secrets is a good album.
Thank you! Who can forget Addicted To Love?
So helpful. Beauty in simplicity on this track
😀
Splendid! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Need better view of fingering the notes
Yes, you have a good point. My more recent covers have a better angle hopefully. Thanks for the feedback.
Good job. Love the Lemon Pipers.
Thank you.
Fantastic my friend excellent performance ❤😊 2:51
Thanks very much!
What are you tuned in?
If you mean tuning it is standard. I should probably redo it as it is a terrible angle. One of my earlier covers.
Hey thank you so much for doing this bass cover!! Sounds fantastic!! And great history you added of her career too!! Really appreciate you taking my request!! Your the best on UA-cam!! Peace!! ✌️🏳️🌈✌️
And thank you!
@HardDayzKnight My pleasure Sir!
There's something wrong with the chorus section. There's a wrong note that sticks out.
Hello. Appreciate the feedback. I listened and am not sure where the note is. Can you be specific as to the time in the song?
@@HardDayzKnight its like an open string... I think it is the A. Let me check again
@@HardDayzKnight Hi- in the main riff that is in C... Open A ... hammer to C then octave C, you then play an open D when it should actually be a rest note. So, the open D string note is not working too well. Otherwise it's great! :)
@@george_richman Thank you! You are probably correct there. I sort of play what I think I hear and doubt I always get it exact. I often learn a song one day and record it the next so sometimes miss some details. Appreciate the ear you have.
@@HardDayzKnight no probs... every song easy or hard has nuances. I've played songs wrong 30 years ago, and when I revisit them now I realize I had been wrong back in the day!
My band just suggested I learn this. I have never heard it before. The bass is loud enough in the mix to hear but your cover certainly helped. Thanks for posting. Such a great bass line.
Happy that it helped! Thanks for commenting.
Yes!!! Now you’re getting to the good stuff.
😄I am always up for suggestions of bands or songs.
I’ll start going through the dusty files of my memory 🤔. Nice job!
Super….
Thank you!
Interesting to listen to George name check this song in NYC 1964 and go back and cover it 28 years later.
Yes, the songs that you remember and have influence when growing up. I can think of many.
Should have been included on the Turn Turn Turn album. Too many Gene Clark song ($) kept it off by rest. Classic and great work covering Cher's' bass line.
Thanks very much!
I remember this tune from way back. It was on most country band set lists. Nice bass line. Thank you for sharing this song.
I am thinking a country song with a pop flavor. Or a pop song with a country flavor.
Man she had a great voice! Nice job 👍
Thank you. They had some great songs.
Awesome thanks again!!
Thank you! Hope I got it close.
En este album Disvovery - que es fantástico - quién hacia los arreglos en los violines?
Hola. Jeff Lynne: voz principal, guitarras (eléctrica, acústica de 12 cuerdas), vocoder, coros, arreglos orquestales y corales, productor. También Richard Tandy: piano acústico y eléctrico Wurlitzer, sintetizador, clavinet, guitarra solista (pista 6), coros, arreglos orquestales y corales.
Gracias🤗😘

Well played sir, well played, 'as always'...🎧🎸😁 Rip Neal, I'm currently reading his book, Traveling Music. Ghost Rider ~Travels on the Healing Road " now that was an excellent read...🥁
That would be an interesting read. Anytime I have seen him interviewed he has come across as a humble, thoughtful and genuine person. All 3 of Rush are. Like that you have that much of an interest in music.
@HardDayzKnight Oh man yes, one of my fav books, he's just an outstanding guy, to which I have so much more appreciation for after reading 'Ghost Rider'... That said I so appreciate music, and musicians like yourself, "without music, life would be a mistake" lol....🤗

Fuck yea, and it took him a few years to get to that song you’re playing. And now you’re playing it and appreciating his brilliance. How long you been playing?
@@robmurray9825 Not to mention all the hours they played in bars etc. 10,000 hours. I started bass in 2019 but I had a huge head start with playing guitar.
Thank you! Someone had a really involved version that didn’t sound right! This is perfect!
Hello. I went and rewatched this cover and decided it needed a redo for the terrible angle. So check that one instead. Might be better. And thanks for commenting!
@ hello, I sure will, but I was fine with it. Been playing bass for almost 50 years, so I was able to easily follow you here!
Great song by them. Fantastic vocal by the singer.
Appreciate the comment!
Alex Ligertwood was also the lead singer on Santana's cover of Ian Thomas' "Hold On". Which...is the version most Americans are familiar with. Frankly, I marginally prefer Ian's original to Santana's. I suppose it really depends on my mood. Oh yeah, great job on the bass!
One of the best, and most distinctive, songs of the early eighties. An absolute timeless classic...it still sounds just as "fresh" today as it did when I was in high school. And yes...another spectacular job! ;-)
😀Red Rider's only international contribution I think. Or at least the most well known.
If there was ever a discussion on perfect song structure, this song would have to be close to the top of that list. It's a masterclass on how to both "layer" instruments as each new verse is introduced, but also how each instrument (especially the bass) slowly gets more "busy" as the song progresses. The vocals? Like butter! Again, bravo on the bass playing!
Thank you! I like the analysis. I always listen to all parts and arrangement etc. and have thoughts about the song or artist. Appreciate the comment.
Sweet bassline! One of the BEST harmonizing bands of ALL time! I rank TLB right up there with CSN(Y), The Beach Boys, The Mamas and the Papas, Poco, Firefall, and the Eagles. I might've missed a few. ;-)
Another superb job holding down another sneaky-hard McCartney bassline. This is one of those songs that can have you (annoyingly) humming it all day long. lol! ;-)
Very well played, sir! While the bassline in this song is absolutely "iconic", My Sharona has (in my opinion) one of the coolest guitar solos ever! It's not very easy to play! :-)
Thank you! I mention the solo in the commentary. It's actually a song I never tire of.
One of my favorite "single artist" movie soundtracks! Their music (and song selection) blended so well into the visual masterpiece that is, To Live and Die in L.A. Great job on the bass! I've been binge watching your videos the past few days. ;-)
Appreciate that! I never imagined anyone would ever binge on anything associated with me haha. 😁
I just enjoy to listen and watch how you play. Hopefully one day I can play as good as you. I am 57 years old and I am from Alberta Canada. Wish you were here to be my teacher.
Appreciate the comment. Thank you.
I love this cover. You and your P -Bass wonderful sound. I will keep practicing on my Jazz Bass hopefully one day I can be as good as you. Danny Bigsby I am sure would have enjoyed your cover too. You have the chops brother. Thank you for your inspiration.

Hello!! I just rediscovered an obscure ( I know you like these kinds lol ) song from my youth that I think would qualify as one of your bass covers. A "B Side" song called "Sing for the Common Man" by Dolly Parton. Written by her Sister Frieda Parton, the B Side to 9 to 5 on 45rpm. May I place an official request?? Thanks !! ✌️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
I am not a huge Dolly fan but I do respect her great career. A definite strong bass line though so I will do it. Maybe the next week or so. Thanks for the suggestion!
