    My tiny tuff stuff were planted this spring. They have not flowered and get shade in the morning and sun in the afternoon. However, I noticed the leaves are turning reddish brown and some have brown spots on the leaves. Is there something I can do to help these plants

    • @springhousegardens2893
      @springhousegardens2893 5 місяців тому

      Thank you for this question! Your Tiny Tuff Stuff are having the hardest year of their young lives so far, with the shock of being planted and transition to establishing roots. Couple that with record high temps across the nation, and they are having to earn their name. We can't see what your plants look like, but what it sounds like is that they are starting their fall leaf coloring early, as they are getting ready to go dormant over the next few months. They have used up their energy for the year and are ready to rest! If you suspect bugs or a fungus, you can always use the spray from BioAdvanced in the blue bottle called Insect, Disease, and Mite Control. You can spray on the leaves and stems, and even the soil at the base of the plant, wait about 10 days and do it again. Be sure to mulch your Tiny Tuff Stuff or push dropped leaves around it this winter, but don't smother it (keep the mulch from going right up to the plant itself). Fertilize with Holly Tone and a Soil Acidifier in the Spring, water weekly with a good soak (either you or Mother Nature) when the weather starts to heat up or go dry, and give your Tiny Tuff Stuff another year to get established, and then evaluate how well they are doing in the spot they are in. Good luck with them! Enjoy!

    They also have vivid yellow to orange leaves in the fall. At least the one we have does. So you get the blooms and then the beautiful leaves in the fall. My kind of plant. Easy to grow and requires very little care

      We're sorry that you didn't find this video helpful. As most people like to plant their trees in the Fall or Spring, this is how they would look, so it was designed to help people see what to look for when they can't see the leaves or flowers. This is the prime time to shop for trees, so this is showing you how to choose your tree at the right time to plant it.

    A good newer hardy variety is Chloe got one 2 years ago gows a bit faster flowers more easy. They are right about winter snow breaking branches it happens when they are smaller and weaker limbed. Just shake off snow if branches get too heavy. When they get bigger and stronger I never lost branches

    A tree company planted a Cornus Cherokee Brave dogwood tree in my yard last July. It is a small new tree 5-6 tall. I watered it every day until late fall last year. I wrapped it before winter. Now I haven't seen any new leaves. Is there any problem? When does it leaf out in Northern Virginia? Weather is warm since April 13 (close to 70F). Thank you very much for your help.

    • @springhousegardens903
      @springhousegardens903 2 роки тому

      Dogwoods are just starting to break bud and flower here in Kentucky. It’s not unusual for a smaller tree not to have flower buds. Those will be the first to open, with leaves opening up a little later. Keep watching and you should see some leaves coming out soon. If not, check with the company that planted it for you to see if they have a guarantee or replacement warranty. Good luck!

      @@springhousegardens903 Still no leave opening up. Flower buds still look dry. The color of the tree stem close to the ground looks grayish greenish. The branches seemed to have changed a little bit from grayish to red-brownish. In general, the whole tree looks dry. I have been watering it almost every day if there is no rain. Wish the leave will open up soon. Thank you.

      Today I found a new small branch at the bottom of the tree, like 1-2 inches above ground. Otherwise, no new leaves or flowers on other older branches. Does this mean it is still alive?

    Do you know how to identify if the Lenten rose has the “Black Death” virus (vs just a fungus)? I’m concerned my roses are infected with the Black Death. They are hardly blooming, black spots on the leaves and stems, shriveled leaves, stunted growth. I spent last year spreading fungicide and removing infected leaves when I thought it was just a treatable fungus. But this year my garden is very sparse (prob had over a hundred of these flowers before) and what remains still looks infected.

    I've burkwoodii and carlesii.As well as cardinal candy.How long before I can expect flowering and fruit?

    • @springhousegardens903
      @springhousegardens903 3 роки тому

      Viburnums generally bloom at a fairly early age. Once they reach a couple feet tall you should be getting plenty of blooms. Fruiting on the Burkwood and Korean Spice I’ve found to be less predictable. It varies from year to year and is spotty at best. Cardinal Candy is reported to be a regular and heavy fruit producer, but I don’t have experience with that cultivar.

    I have the red. The leaves are a lighter grn color. Right now leaves look like they have blk spot. There are alot of ants around. In a pot and in full sun.What can i do to help my poor plant?

    • @springhousegardens903
      @springhousegardens903 3 роки тому

      It’s not unusual at this time of year to have some black leaf spots. Remove any affected leaves and as they fall dispose of them to try and keep the problem from hanging around. Keep your plant well watered, but let it dry out slightly between waterings. If the ants are in the pot, try to get rid of them so that the plant is not adversely affected.

    Hello! I found you video because I I was given 3 little cuttings of grandiflora or teddy bear and I hope to root them. I believe they were all considered “suckers” if that means anything. I’ve got quite a bit of stem and leaves to work with on 1 so I may even turn 1 into 2 cuttings. I’ve read to not keep much stem, cut 1inch vertical line, clip most leaves in half (not sure why?) and put direct in soil. Would you agree or anything you can add? Root hormone recommendation? I’ve heard the success rate for this is 50% at best, and I don’t know if I’ll ever have this chance again so I want to give it my best💛 my heart is in the southeast and this beautiful tree is a great reminder of things that feel like home to me. I hope to do it justice growing here in Phoenix AZ! Thank you so much for your time :) Krissy

    Love the video & thanks for the tips! This is also my all time favorite. I am hoping you can give a little advice... I live in an apartment Seattle and right now the plants are on my balcony in containers and the leaves are just starting to turn red for the fall -- just gorgeous! This is the first season I have had them and I'm thinking ahead for winter. I noticed that you waited until March & April to cut it down. Is it also an option to "give it a haircut" earlier in the winter when the foliage dies? And if so, here's my follow up question with some context: in the winter I typically convert my containers to stands for Christmas decorations by placing toppers over them. So in my perfect world, I would love it if I can cut it back (or even smush it down) at the beginning of December and then cover them through January. But if that might kill them or effect their growth potential in the spring I can find another solution. Thanks in advance.

    Hello I just saw your video for magnolia trees. I have a magnolia tree that the previous owner never pruned. Can you please tell me how to prune a magnolia tree?

    • @springhousegardens903
      @springhousegardens903 4 роки тому

      Hello! Thank you for watching our video! Magnolias are very forgiving of any pruning, so you can cut any part of it off and it will be okay. It's up to you what shape you want to make it. Cut the branches back to where it forks, and that can be from the sides, the base, or the top, depending on what you are trying to achieve with it. The only thing to be aware of is that the best time to prune is after it blooms. For example, right now, the Southern Magnolias that bloomed in May-June will have started making their buds on the tree for next year. If you prune now, they will be cut off. The tree will be fine, but you won't get blooms next Spring. The Little Gem variety is blooming right now, and when it's finished will be the best time to prune them. I hope this helps!
