City on a Hill - Mon Rovîa | Drum Cover
A GREAT SONG by one of my new favorite artists. Its one thing to learn an existing drum part for a cover, but covering a song with little to no percussion is such a fun creative exercise!

I got a lot of requests for this! So here's how I make an all purpose gospel to country to rock bass patch using the Line 6 Helix LT and my Music-man Stingray 5 HH. Everything was recorded from the Helix directly into my UAD Apollo 8 with no additional post-processing.

Finally got the new studio up and running, so I decided to take a break from unpacking boxes and demo one of my favorite pieces of gear. All sounds are direct from the Helix stereo line out.

Photograph - Ed Sheeran 2014 I was inspired by Janek Gwizdala to check out this song and really pay attention to melodic phrasing. Thanks for listening!

Adele 'Hello' - Bass Arrangement

Here's my quick arrangement of Hello by Adele (Copyright EMI 2015) All parts were played on the bass, and recording was completed in one take per part.
Sounds good! What do you set your input impedance to for your MM Stingray? Thank you!
Setting some John Deacon tones would be good please...
Are you using a low B or a high C on that five string? and- explain that ill percussive thing you did!
These videos are always so hard to see on phone or tablet.
This was beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Love it. What patch was that for the drum sounds?
Thanks! The drum sounds are synths triggered by an audio envelope in the ZOIA, the snare and hats are filtered white noise mixed with the bass audio, and the kick is an enveloped sine wave mixed with the bass audio
@@stephenyokley Awesome, going to give this a shot :) I don't have a ZOIA but I have a Poly Beebo
I replaced the crap fender noiseless pickups with AGUILAR JB pickups , that cured the muddy sound. 😉
I'm speculating that part of the difference I'm hearing is the high mass bridge on the Mayones. I have two fenders- one with a high mass bridge, and they are similar in the difference in sound. I could be wrong of course, but it's made me pay more attention to the type of bridge used on basses.
The Mayones is dirtier and fatter. To my ear it is the clear winner.
You're a genius
What strings are you using in this video on both basses? ...and gauge?
Very nice
Mayones good
Of all the Helix/HX bass vids on YT, this is the one that made me buy my LT, Thanks!
Excelent✨ Genial amigo!!! 👌🏽
So amazing. Thank you for such a fine contribution to my playlist.
Sweet jam! Very good...
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, great music, good job
This is like watching a bad Janek gwizdala loop session
Good, bad. It’s art. Its subjective. Non musician huh? Sorry homie we’re a very supportive and lucky bunch. Wish you were one of us. Happy new year
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences on these two excellent basses, however though it all comes down to preference, I love fender jazz bass, I recently bought a Bass Mods 534 jazz bass, with great features, in my opinion Bass Mods gives the consumer boutique quality and craftsmanship without the price tag.
Great demo Stephen - I’ve got one of these pedals that I use all the time but haven’t figured out how to use the looper - can you show how to do that?
Amazing tones with uniquely precise layering. Thanks for creating this gem!
This is why I love a 5 string bass❤
Sounds great! Some of the best sounds I’ve heard from the HX on UA-cam! Did you program these yourself?
Beautiful...
Sounds soo great ❤
Gorgeous!
In this test, I would have to go with Mayones over Fender. Both sound great.
Quiero un bajo 1826
Dope af
Can you link the patch? Sounds amazing!!
Thats the stuff
Are they your custom presets?
Yep, these are all one preset with multiple effects turned on or off
Magnificent. You deserve more views homie.
Yup
Wait... you can name the folders on the Helix!?
Mayones is the winner, Fender fanboys should give away more wisly them money....
Awesome job. love the pedal board!
Mayones brighter but noisy pick ups.
My goodness I’m in shock because this is genuinely one of the best performances I’ve seen in all they way too many bass videos I’ve ever watched. Do you think the helix poly sustain works for that infinite sustain thing you’ve got going on with I think the microcosm?
Thank you! I’m still pretty new to this setup and it’s still evolving but definitely more like this will be coming. The poly sustain can totally make a pad like I’ve got going here, playing it along with octave effects and delay to get pretty close to the Microcosm would be dope!
What would you recommend between the Zoia or Microcosm?I want to get one..
Oh man that’s tough, they’re both incredible pedals that are capable of making crazy noises. I find the hologram is more inspiring, like if I’m just going to play and twist knobs the hologram will do all sorts of cool and unexpected things. For the hologram I need to start with a sound in mind, like I’m going to create a modulated delay or additional noise generator, rather than just playing with it. Hope that helps!
@@stephenyokley Thanks for your reply..Yes I want to go for the Microcosm but looking at some of the issues it has is putting me off...ua-cam.com/video/YEUz32rPo0w/v-deo.html
Depends on what bass being compared was made when. I have owned a 1960 jazz since the early 70s. They don’t make them like that anymore unfortunately. Great bass, like my 58 P. I also own many boutique basses that also can vary by luthier. That said, I also own 4 Mayones Jabbas. All of those are excellent quality instruments…imho, equal to or better than my 60J for many reasons. Mayones, and a few others like Zon, Sady, Fodera, Sandberg, etc, …you name it, are made with great attention to detail and craft. That’s why they cost so much. You can get a modern fender for less, but the total difference in build quality and sound is obvious. Regardless , the player and their hands is what makes the difference in any bass. It’s really personal preference for what you like to hear and play. 👍🏼
I have to say, the mayones Riggs are the ones for me. They have sooooo much guts an tone. The fender is the daddy of them all but, for realy deep gutsy jazz an slap? Mayones all the way for me!!!! Now, where do I get one an which one? Ha ha ha Thanks for sharing guys Paul 14.31 gmt Uk cheers
At last! I have a Stomp, but found virtually no reviews with useable bass sounds. Fuzz, distortion, overdrive etc. that most boxes can do easily - I want a good tone as a base layer. Thank you.
It couldn't been done any better.✌️
I dont think there ready! Your style is da Bomb, keep more coming.🙏
I just watched this as well. I was also wondering where you got the IR or if you created them if they are accessible somewhere. Thanks, friend! Great video!!!
Thanks! These are from the Ownhammer Ampeg bass IRs. The pack costs about $30 on their website, but I think the IRs respond way better than the cab simulations in the helix.
@stephen yolky where do you get this ir?
can you please share where you got the IRs? Thanks
I have a Fender American Ultra Precision Bass and am picking up a Mayones Viking V5 this weekend. I've played that bass the last two times I visited the music store and to me it's the best playing bass in the entire store.
What kind of foot pedal is that!!! Dang its sweeeeet!
Short plain and simple...........the fender!!!! Better tone clarity..........
