This is SAR-Call Sign “Pedro” from what used to be VMR-1 MCAS Cherry Point NC. It was VMR-1 because of the two damn C9s. No Phrog guy worth their salt wore the Roadrunner patch. It was essentially two squadrons in one hangar. This appears to be correct that it is an HH-46D. I worked and flew on it and interestingly enough is the one HH that I did not paint the HEFS on (faded lower orange stripe that is water-activated float bags). It is one of three HH that was eventually replaced with CH variants and added a fourth bird.before the CH versions were eventually decommissioned. These aircraft were chopped and refitted after Vietnam and one of the most notable touches was a Boeing bureau plate between the AVI closet and cockpit that showed its lineage and the aircraft pieced-together to make it a serviceable aircraft. The plates are highly sought after. I reached out to Boeing years ago trying to find one. If the date of this video is correct and this is still flying then this is truly an odd/rare bird because I was told by Boeing all were supposedly bone-yarded. These aircraft were the lifeline for military and civilians in Eastern NC from EMS transport, car wrecks, anyone lost/missing, hurricanes, downed military aircraft, etc, MCAS Beaufort had SAR with Call Sign “Angel One” with HH versions as well. The only other SAR squadron with HH was Iwakuni JP. Hated to see them go but more importantly Eastern NC and SC lost a tremendous asset. This was a maintenance over money or vice versa issue with likely 30-60 hours maintenance for just a few hours of flight time for an aircraft on-call 24/7. The very first three months I was at Cherry Point there were three major hurricanes. Every building in the vicinity of the ATC tower was patched in over radio/PA for immediate launch of Crash Crew and Search & Rescue. Over the PA the ATC Tower would get a distress call for an AV-8, C130, EA6B and what you would hear was… still gives me chills. ….B-E-E-P (Some brief description of what type aircraft and approach runway then-“Crash Crew Dispatch! Crash Crew Dispatch! Launch Pedro! Launch Pedro!” If you were on the Spot meaning on -call in the SAR Shack you grab your gear and hall ass to get the Rescue bird flying with the crew. Never fly on an empty stomach and when jumping out at 30 knots don’t jump straight down into the water. Learned that the hard way

Our defence force warns us weeks and months in advance of all special forces training being held within our city.
