Never unboxed anything on camera, let alone a typewriter for my collection!
Wish youre still around. I always thought your videos was the most interesting and well edited content out there. With creative camera angles too. Other channels about typewriters even the popular ones just seem lazy with either one single shot of a typewriter for the entire video or one shot of a person's face talking about a typewriter. No joke. Atleast you try to switch it up with good and interesting camera shots and angles. Youre a legend in my eyes. Hope youre well.
Thank you very much for the kind words. Making videos is a lot of work and I got to the point where I just didn’t want to do it anymore. Maybe that will change in the future but for now it’s best if I step away. I’m pursing other interests. Again, thank you for watching. I’m glad you liked the series.
Any chance of making a new video anytime soon? I loved this series back in high school
I'm so glad you liked the series! However, I don't plan on making any more videos. Life happened and I lost my enthusiasm for typewriters in general. I don't even write any more. I'm sorry if this is a disappointment, but it was time to move on. Thanks for watching!
In your opinion what do you consider the best typewriter. I for one like the Remington Quiet-riter 1950s model
I don’t think there is a single best machine outside of one’s personal preference. I’ve been using my Royal Deluxe for journaling but lately I’ve switched to an SM3 just for variety’s sake. Pick whatever works for you!
I have a 1938 Model A, it has all the features, paper bail which can be a paper rest, ratchet release (for temporary variable spacing without changing the ratchet setting), variable spacer, tabulator, touch selector, and card finger. It looks like a sports typewriter next to my 1936 Corona Standard. The Royal tabs are push and slide, the tabs on my 1950s Tower (SC sold by Sears) are pull out and reinstall. The Royal doesn’t slam into the tabs like the Tower does. The Royal has flat spots on the feed roller so I’ve left the paper release released which has help it rebound a little, it’s not too much of a problem other than variable spacing. I bought it in reported non-op condition and found that it just needed a bit of moving everything and it started working.
I recently bought this model of type writer out of all places; a thrift store! It's my first ever type writer and after learning how to operate it, I can truly say that that wonderful machine of ink and metal can do some work.
Gostei dos videos
Not only is an oracle of the 1960s but it’s also a relic of nostalgia and it’s always super fun to come back and see it again…………… Because of how fun And satisfying using a Hermes 3000. This extremely eye-catching typewriter it’s super satisfying enough That This cool typewriter will weeks away from you and it will be worth it!
Craig the Hermes 3000 even gave me a brush to clean out the inside
Testing literally is an oracle of the 60s when computers were not yet made especially when it comes to printers
Yes a new ink strip that has red and black on Amazon for eight dollars
It’s got the case what has got everything in it. The only thing bad What is the expired black ink strip but I can get a new one on Amazon for eight bucks
Actually within the Christmas season I got myself a hermies 3000 from a neighbor right in front of my house
Yo sigo usando esta hermosa máquina de escribir marca Remington, es excelente.
Finally got one. 1955. It's going to be hard to use my other portables now.
Are you the same guy who did a review of James Bond Jr. on NES?
Hahahah. Yes, but that was a very long time ago. I got caught up in the angry gaming craze like so many others, but I was just imitating them. It's not for me, so I moved on.
Hi ! I recently purchased my first ever typewriter, the Hermès 3000. I am 100% new to this world, so I’d love some guidance. I can’t type past a certain point, it’s like there’s a paragraph stop. Does anyone know how to deactivate it ? I can only type very short-sentenced poems for now 😂
Hi Zoe! It sounds like the margins have been set for very narrow paragraphs. If you Google Hermes 3000 margin adjustment you’ll find a way to fix it. Thanks for the question!
@@taylorharbin3948 Amazing! Thank you so much for your answer 🎉 you were absolutely right
If you don't think the H3K is the best typewriter, which one do you think is the best one?
It’s hard for me to say. There’s so much variation. I’m a big fan of Olympiad, underwood’s, Olivettis. Sometimes it just depends on what mood I’m in.
Just got one and after cleaning and a few minor adjustments it really types well. I have a problem with the Right platen knob too and need a replacement screw. Where did you get yours?
I have a 1949 Royal Quiet De Luxe and it's Perfect. I have used it yet but, I look forward to it.
Very nice video. I have just gotten "bitten" by the Bug it appears. I have purchased from Flea-bay a 1967 or 8' Olympia SM-9 and a 1946 Smith-Corona Silent 4S. They are both in Very Good condition. In my research I had heard Olympia SM-9 are workhorses and considered Mercedes of typewriters. The 1946 Smith-Corona was just an Eye Candy moment as it was "Love at First Sight". I might also make room for an SM-3. Good day to you sir.
Great review! Great video, love the history etc. I have a 1948 Arrow. Great machines :)
I have a Royal Companion. It works very well.
My Quiet-Riter is ultra silent. I think it’s just the machine you have because mine make the smallest sound ever possible when I hit the space key.
Very cinematic. Thank you for the history too.
Hi. I bought one yesterday and it looks amazing, no rust, clean... but the keys don't hit the paper, space bar doesn't move the carriage and when you type, the carriage doesn't move. Help!!!!
There could be any number of issues at play. If the carriage doesn't move, the margins may have been accidentally set so close together that you have no space to type (this happens a lot at thrift stores where people play with the buttons and don't know what they're doing). It could also be a broken draw band. When in doubt, consult a professional repairman. The Classic Typewriter Page has a list of all fifty states!
Where have you been? Its been like 3 years?
Ha ha, yes I’ve been pretty bad about it. Long story short: moved to a new state, got a new job, then got another new job a year later. On top of that I’ve had technical problems. Video camera isn’t working like it used to and my computer needs to be replaced. I haven’t quit the series completely, but it needed to go on the back burner for a while. Glad there’s still interest! I’ll have to make the next episode a New Year’s Resolution.
Taylor Harbin well, that sucks for thr first part with moving and stuff, as i’ve dealt with it before, but i love this series. Even if you have technical issues, the way that you have set everything up on this series just screams typewriters! I unfortanetly dont have anything to recommend for the software issues... see ya soon if you make more videos/reviews!
What DO you think is the best typewriter? Thanks
Honestly, there’s no good answer to that. Every machine has its own quirks and mannerisms. I CAN tell you which ones I’ve been using the most: the Olympia SG1 and the Olivetti Lettera 22.
smegging awesome content, my friend :) keep it up!!
I own two, one for home and one for the office. They are solid typers that are extremely underrated.
There were British made Olivettis too! Although, I don’t think the 32 was ever made in Britain, the 22 certainly was.
beautiful piece!
I realize you made this video two years ago but I have the same Typewriter and was just about to pull the ribbon covers off when I heard your comment about things unraveling. Can you give me an idea on what I’m up against? It needs a new ribbon and now I’m afraid to touch it. Thanks for the nice videos.
Hey Dan! Glad you liked the video. The ribbon spools on this machine are metal rings and the ribbon wraps around the outside. Removing the covers won’t unravel anything. However, if you aren’t careful, the ribbon will slide off in a big heap when you lift them out.
you should make a video comparing this machine with the sm9
Great job! Love the video and especially the humoristic elements... With best regards from Switzerland and a fellow Hermes 3000 owner :)
How much was it?
hi pls movie name?
A little lighting wont hurt,, uhhh
Both Royals and Underwoods were manufactured in Hartford Connecticut (by different companies).
im getting one on sunday although from what ive hear in this video still not as loud as my razer blackwidow chroma XD
If mine doesn't have the deluxe Word there, what model can be? It has an Olympia Ag Werke text on the back, but I'm not sure.
It is still probably an SM3 with only a minor difference or two, though I cannot recall what those differences are.
Hi I have a Little problem with mine, maybe you can give me advice. I love my Lettera 32, however, when I write, well, when I use the spacebar, it hits the Surface of the table and it's pretty disgusting. Is there something I can do? Or it'll be like this forever?
Noisy, isn't it? Mine does the same thing. It's just a little design quirk. You can mitigate this by putting a rubber pad under the machine. Even a cut-out square of shower rug rubber will do.
I'm happy to say I own two pairs of these typewriters lol
They're great, aren't they?
I have one just like it. I love it. Mine is really quiet, and silky smooth.
Maybe I just got a lemon?
This is the machine that I learned how to touch type back in high school in 1978.
Great video reviews. Succinct but good details. Easy to follow, consistent video template. Hermes Rocket video? Keep it up!!
Thanks for watching! The best I can do is a 1950s Hermes Baby, but that's close enough. I'll try to make another episode soon.
what is the music in the end?
Também queria saber.
It is the former anthem of Switzerland. É o antigo hino da suíça. ua-cam.com/video/0YRMnKrDCnA/v-deo.html
I have this exact model. My platen knobs are crumbling and falling apart. Do you know where I can get replacement knobs?
Come to the Antique Typewriter Collector's group on Facebook. You'll find someone who can do the job for a reasonable price.
@1:05. That picture is from my Etsy shop. lol
Remington machines were gorgeous and an absolute piece of crap to type on. At least their smaller machines were. Their noiseless machines were better, but I never cared for the over-engineered type bar designs.
Smith Corona Silent - Year??? I would love to fix it after it was dropped at the Chicago airport by DHS agent. It's really a mess. I write and have been writing on this typer for a year. It was a race horse in good condition and worked great until that day when it was dropped. Any tips on repairing it or pointers where i can find how?
There is a wonderful group on Facebook called Antique Typewriter Collectors who could steer you in the right direction. Some of them are professional repairmen.
