I’m Mike documenting my family’s outdoors adventures. I’m 71 years old 🙂. I hope you enjoy going along with Joline and our dogs Kashie and Sadie. We hike, climb mountains and ski. I also ride a motorcycle (usually on forest roads), a street motorcycle and an e-mountain bike on trails. We spend a lot of time boondocking in our travel trailer throughout the western states.
Joline and I live in the town of Mt Shasta near the volcanic 14er Mt Shasta. Rumor has it the ancient Lemurian civilization relocated to volcanic tunnels and caverns under Mt Shasta when their continent subsided into the ocean. You can decide that for yourself :)

Yeah, that's full. Have you been downstream to Cantara Loop? I would be curious to see what that looks like with all that water.
No I haven’t been there (ever). I’ll try to get there but probably not for a while. River is raging a mile above the lake.
@@1MikeMorrison It's definitely worth checking out and it's just a short drive from where you are in this video.
Been hitting the bottle Mate?
😎
Nice footage of the lake and surrounds! That "new" channel where the south fork comes in used to be the primary inflow. I forget but some very high water a few years (or longer) changed the channel.
Joline watched this and pointed out it’s Taiwan not Tiawan 🫤
We are from Indiana. We have been to Mount Shasta several times. We enjoy watching your channel, and seeing you both and the dogs having fun.
Thanks for the kind words!
Your video was truly beautiful and inspiring. As a fellow creator, I appreciate the effort you put into it. Sub and 👍7
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words.
Due to the stop sale on the v-strom I bailed on it and bought a used Triumph Tiger 900. Maybe someday a v-strom
Current price is 6500.
Apologies for poor editing at the end of this video 😢. Should be north shore, not show
Whoa!! Those bear prints are awesome!
I ordered some lowering links 25mm. And rather than a non triumph side stand called my triumph dealer and ordered the side stand for a tiger gt low. Should have it all done in a week or so (and can’t ride due to weather right now anyway)
Well done! We all walk out there year round!
We do too!
Awesome share, be safe
How long have you lived in Mt.Shasta?
2 1/2 years. Colorado before that
@@1MikeMorrison Cool, snow like that used to be common in Mt. Shasta. I was born and raised there and one year we had over 8 feet in town. Now you're lucky to get over 20 inches in a whole season.
@@mikevee9145 we often had 10 to 11 feet of snow in Colorado. Lived in the mountains. Didn’t expect much here. First winter had around 10 feet at our house. Difference it would melt between storms. Last winter had very little. This winter is starting stronger than our first winter here! Glad we kept the big snow blower
Test that snow my friend you'll be shocked.
Thank you for sharing your video! I had to subscribe to your channel. I became the 81th friend. Have a great day my friend ~❤
Thanks for the kind words!
Love the pristine snowfall. Clearing the snow must have been a bear.
What a great day to go out for a ride. As a flatlander, thanks for taking us along. Hope someday to bring the motorcycle out west to experience it personally.
I'm always saying, "Look where we live!" Isn't Siskiyou County so beautiful?! Thanks for sharing. Blessings!
Hi Mike. I live in the Seattle area now but I was born and raised in Mt. Shasta (McCloud Ave). I really enjoyed your video. It brings back many memories of the area. I and 5 other guys from Shasta rode the NorCal BDR this past summer. Not sure if you've ridden that route but it's really fun. We peeled off of the main BDR route near Fall River and bushwacked back to Mt. Shasta to complete the ride. Thanks for sharing your ride. G. (Bink)
Is it worth 16k? In the dallas area they are asking 18.5 k otd.
Mine is a 2023. Msrp then was about 16500 (otd much more of course). Dealer had a 13000 price on it. Sold it out the door for 11500.
Thats a great deal!
I blew a fuse trying this the first time. I ended up paying the dealership to hook up one module and hit a button. I’m going to try this.
Hi, I live in Mt Shasta. I have a motorcycle that is comparable to yours, and I'm always looking for someone to ride with. I have friends with dirt bikes, but they're always waiting for me and my big bike. If you're interested, let me know and we can exchange info.
Definitely interested! Got some bad weather for the next few days but after that? My email is morriscm1@icloud.com
Who edits this stuff 😂. Made a comment about the green hand guards early on saying I broke the old ones on this road. Nope broke the left one in an earlier tip over at gumboot lake. You can see they are already on for this latest tip over. And they did their job this time. Didn’t break like the oem guards did at gumboot lake
The sport bikes are nice and I like your dog what is the breed of your dog
Aussie doodle
How is your comfort on that bike? How do you like the seating? I am 6' and have been looking at those recently. I'm in Reno btw.
I’m 5’7” with 29” inch inseam. Starting with that I think it is very comfortable. Longest ride was 250 miles and 6.5 hours. Stopped often. Seat was fine till last hour when I was ready to quit. I can flat foot but have to stretch just a bit to do it
@@1MikeMorrison Did you compare to the 8R at all? I also like the Vstrom but I am thinking for off road exploring I'd rather my truck so I can take the dog and supplies etc.
I did. Way too much lean and pressure on my wrists. But… get the vstrom if planning dirt roads
@@1MikeMorrison Did you sell it yet?
@@gregs1027Not yet
I believe you have to either be off the gas to change the modes while riding or at least in lower rpm’s
Just puts some different tires on it and you’re good to go.
Nice little hike and I'm glad you meant dogs as furry friends nowadays you never know.
That is a nice area to hike through without all kinds of deadfall and the end reward is a nice small peaceful lake.
Thanks for this video. I'll give this ride a try tomorrow!
Worked perfectly, I used a bread twist tie.
Hi, so i jumped the wrong holes and had a smal spark but everthing seems to work. How can i tell if i damaged something? Thank you
By using everything. I have no experience with this, but one video I saw had something similar and blew a fuse. Hopefully no damage but if so hopefully just a fuse (and I haven’t looked to see where the fuses are). Good luck!
@@1MikeMorrison Thank you
Have you thought about putting a skid plate in on it by t-Rex arms? Or something like that? Not sure if it’s actually a skid plate for but there is a list for the gsx-8 on it
Thought about it. Finally decided not to. I’ll be getting a real adventure bike eventually. The 8s can do easy dirt but I can’t really make an adventure bike. The 8s is a very fun sporty street bike!
@@1MikeMorrison ever thought about changing the tire and the rim? To 50/50 or something?
Yes, but decided to keep it as it is. A very good street bike!
@@1MikeMorrison what avd bike you going for?
Got my name on a v storm 800 de when the stop sale is resolved. I really like the motor, etc on the 8s and want to stay there
Thanks for sharing !!
Great video. There is a Gopro mount that can be fitted to the lower part of the front mud guard. But looks like you have found a good mounting point from those shots in your video. That does give your video an interesting perspective. Personally I am quite new to this - filming and riding so its all learning by trial and error.
Beautiful scenery in your part of the world. On my GSX-8S I find if I pre-load the quick shifter a second before taping it up or down it seems to change a lot smother. I normally use it from 2nd upwards. Down shifting seems to be good if you are rolling off the throttle. I also looked at the Vstrom to go touring on, but instead I am going to try touring on the 8S and see how capable it is. Nice video, many thanks.
Next year: Honda Trans Alp Farewell - what's next? 😂😂
As long as I’m having fun it’s all good 😄
@@1MikeMorrisonexactly. Keep enjoying life and motorcycles.
Hi Mate , you are correct the motor on these bikes are amazing, greetings from South Australia 😎
Amazing how international UA-cam is! Nice! Appreciate the comment
Im South of Adelaide ha, I was set on buying a v strom 800DE but it wasn't much more to buy a GSX8s and CRF 300 Rally, the vstrom would be a great bike though just a bit heavy for where i would want to ride it, lots of Sand in South Australia also have a WR450F 2007
Caught some of your videos. I also own the 2024 Suzuki GSX-8S in the same color scheme. I first bought the 2024 Suzuki GSX-8R in blue but it took about 250 miles to realize I would have been happier with the 8S so I found a dealership that made an acceptable trade. I also have a 2023 Honda CB500X and a 2015 VStar 950T. It's taken me a while to accept that 1 bike wasn't going to work for me. While I would be interested in hearing about the VStrom I hope you reconsider giving up the 8S. Like you I think it's an awesome engine but I also think the style of the bike helps that experience and the VStrom might not give you the same feeling.
Maybe…
Ahh it’s good to experience different bikes. I’ve owned 2 generations of the 650 and 1 generation of the 1000 vstrom. I currently own the GSX-8S. I took both the 8E and 8S for a run and I just loved how playful that 8S was. Something about the lighter weight and sitting in the wind. I like to swap bikes around too. That feeling when you but a new bike is fantastic. I own a CRF250L with every modification you can think of for my biking and adventure riding. Versys x300 for my adventure long distance touring riding. GSX-8S for my sport riding. Ninja 1000sx for sport touring. When is comes to adventure I like smaller nimble bikes that cost little to run and maintain. Yet engaging and quick enough to keep up. Hence the slower bikes for the overnight long distance. It really adds to the adventure I think. Sport bikes for shorter distance I like power and fun. Everything needs to be comfortable or I find myself not riding. They don’t travel as far so costs really don’t matter too much, if like me one cares about value. I agree, having a few bikes that do different things keeps it interesting.
GSX-8S with the black tank and blue colour scheme looks good. Unfortunately scammers hitting on many in the UK selling bikes too.
😕
Just came across your channel. Its a beautiful part of the world you live in. I am a new rider with a GSX-8S in the UK. Loving the bike and the handling of it. Planning on taking it across the UK and eventually a tour of Europe. Not taken it off road as yet but watching your video gives me an idea that it should be fairly capable on some easy tracks if I ever do find myself off the tarmac. Thanks for the content.
Gee, that's a nice bike. Wish I had one of those!😋
It is! Wish I was younger and could it to it’s potentisl
I thtew caution to the wind and jammed a paperclip into holes 1 and three while the bike was on with no ill effects twice now. Probably much better to insert a small wire with the bike off, but I had no issues fwiw. Just know for sure which holes are 1 and 3 😆
Awesome my friend, very well done, nice and clear with no bull.
Nice video. Curious which gps device are you using on the bike? Thx
It’s a garmin zumo xt2
What windshield is installed on this 8s?
An MRA (with a puig wind deflector on top now). Keeps wind off chest, hits at bottom of helmet. Airflow is clean on helmet
Very well done video. What gauge wire did you use?
Smallest hole on my wire stripper is 20 (goes from 10 to 20). Easily fits there (and stripper works with that hole)
