Gold Recovery from Mixed CPU'S using Iodine Leaching and Poor Man's Aqua regia
In this video, I recover gold from mixed cpu's. I'm trying a new to me method of gold recovery from the cpu pins by leaching them in iodine and precipitating the gold with vitamin c. I'll also be recovering the gold bond wires with poor man's aqua regia.

      Probably not. It would be very difficult to maintain an electrical connection. A leaching solution would probably be better iodine can leach gold plating. 👍

      The first tip I will give is before jumping straight in, do some reading and research. Check out the gold refining forum on the Internet and just read some comments. There will be people on there who have made mistakes when starting out, and there's some good advice for the problems they came across

      Once you have researched, do small test batches to get comfortable with the reactions.

      Thanks man. It wasn't too difficult. Time consuming a little, but it was ok. I believe a stronger concentration would have been better, and I would have probably done them all in one leach. But i was happy with the result. I might use the leach again. And I think I'll get myself to the junkyard and get myself some old car batteries and drain the sulphuric.

      @@3-2preciousmetalrecycling I’ve Done Two Rounds Of Gold Plated Pins, Gold Fingers, Gold Plated Connectors, Small Gold Plated Parts And Pieces From Cell Phone Boards. Each Batch I’ve Filtered Off The Particles And Foils From The Spent Solution. I’ve Kept The Solution In A Separate Glass Jar To Use In A Big Glass Container Of Gold Plated Boards, TV Runner Boards, Misc Gold Stuff. It’ll Take A While For It To Be Dissolved In The Solution You Said It’s Copper Acetate. I Was Going To Put A Small 50-100Mills Of Hydrogen Peroxide To Help It Along. That Should Be Fine You Think ?? Also I Wanted To Ask Since I’ve Been Doing This And Moving Through The Steps. When I’ve Used That Copper Acetate After The Next Run Of Boards. If I Stick Some Steel Angle Iron In It Will It Precipitate Copper From That Solution ?? Then If it Does Release The Copper What Would That Solution Be Called ? The Technical Name For It After Copper Has Been Precipitated ? Thanks for Answering All My Questions I Appreciate It Brother !!

    I see there at the end your solution went from 150 ml to over 400 ml... I assume you diluted with more water and raised the PH to around 4-5ph with soda ash? Since I see there was no reaction when you dropped the SMB in..

      Small amounts of silver chloride can dissolve in a concentrated solution. Silver chloride is insoluble in water. Adding tap water helps to cool the solution and precipitate these small amounts of silver chloride, which then get filtered. The solution also increases every time I filter it due to ensuring all the pregnant solution is washed from the sides of the beakers.

    Hi. Were the depopulated boards put in hcl to remove all the solder/tin first or just put in copper chloride solution?

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling
      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling 21 день тому

      The majority of the boards were fingers without any solder on. The small depopulated boards still had small amounts of solder on. this doesn't harm the reaction

  • @RobRuffMusic
    @RobRuffMusic Місяць тому

    this will also dissolve very small amounts of gold.

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling
      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling Місяць тому

      It shouldn't dissolve any gold. Gold needs to be oxidised to dissolve. The amount of h2o2 in the reaction would only oxidize a small amount of the copper to get the reaction started

    • @RobRuffMusic
      @RobRuffMusic Місяць тому

      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling Yes, it dissolves very small amounts of gold. Next time you do this, throw some sodium metabisulfite in it and you'll get some orange precipitate. It's very little however. Youll spend more on the sodium metabisulfite that you throw in, than the gold you get out. Lol.... But since you're working with copper, the sodium bisulfite will also precipitate copper, so you won't even see the gold if you were to do it. I work with silver/gold rocks with zero copper though. Sodium bisulfite does not precipitate silver. Only gold/copper/and platinum.

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling
      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling Місяць тому

      You could either ion exchange by dropping in a piece of steel. Everything below steel in the reactivity series of metals will drop out. Alternatively, you could place 2 carbon electrodes in and remove everything with electrolysis

  • @knightstar1312
    @knightstar1312 Місяць тому

    What voltage and amps are you using ? Can the electrolyte be made with 17% sulfuric acid with sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate added ? And if yes what would be the percentage of sulfuric acid concentration and distilled water, and how much sodium/potassium nitrate salts ? However with this type of electrolyte solution the silver may fall to bottom as a creamy sludge and may need to be filtered if I'm correct. Buying silver nitrate is very expensive where I live. For me its less expensive to buy a 10oz silver bullion for $400 and dissolve it in acid to make the electrolyte solution.

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling
      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling Місяць тому

      I was running it between 5 and 8 volts and under half an amp if I remember correctly. Sulfuric acid and a nitrate salt would make a weak nitric acid, and as soon as you added your electrode, the acid would eat it up. I used the silver nitrate crystals as it's the cheapest option for me. If you can do it cheaper by dissolving silver bullion, by all means, use that method. The end result will be the same. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling
      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling 2 місяці тому

      Sulfamic acid is used to remove any lead (Pb) present in the solution. The sulphamic acid reacts with the excess nitric acid to produce sulphuric acid. The sulphuric acid converts the lead chloride to lead sulphate, which is insoluble and precipitates from the solution. This can then be removed with filtering

    I thought you couldn’t produce hydrochloric acid with that condition. Don’t you need a mixture of sulphuric acid with it to catalyse the reaction and to produce hydrochloric acid.

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling
      @3-2preciousmetalrecycling 3 місяці тому

      For my understanding, it makes a weak dilute hydrochloric acid. Traditionally, hcl is made by reacting sodium chloride and sulphuric acid and liberating the hydrogen chloride gas, which is dissolved in water. When I make hcl myself, I use sodium bisulphate instead of the sulphuric acid

    I use a electric rotisserie for BBQs'. It has a cage that shuts. I lined the cage with fine steel mesh like window screen. It holds a kilo + of ICs'. I built a fire brick box to put the cage in. It has a hole in the side for the burner. I set all that in a steel pan. Turn on the rotisserie and light the burner. As they burn they tumble , and the ash falls into the tray. Most of the legs and the silicon stays in the basket. Leaving very clean ash with the gold wires. You get the idea.

    • @3-2preciousmetalrecycling

      That's an absolutely brilliant idea, I really like that. I had thought of something similar but a bit bigger for de-populating boards. Boards heat up solder melts, and components fall out onto a tray. I keep thinking of building it, never get round to it. I'd never even thought of an automatic chip crusher. Thanks for watching 👍👍

It would have been nice to get more back than I spent, but to be fair, I got almost all of it back. And it shows people that the ewaste on eBay is well overpriced and not to buy it. I should also say that the purchases were all "buy it now" Maybe if you could win a few bids for cheap, you could make a profit. Thanks for watching 👍
