gold recovery from my temporary waste container
Переглядів 5243 місяці тому
This waste container holds some gold that has been carried over with washes over a period of 2 years. Every time I've recovered or refined gold, I've washed it to remove the chemicals from the recovery. Tiny amounts get carried over with the washes they settle over time, and today is the day I recover that gold

Can You Remove Gold Plating with Sodium Bisulfate?
Переглядів 1,3 тис.8 місяців тому
in this video, I experiment with reverse electroplating to see if it can be done with sodium bisulfate, instead of the typical sulfuric acid. sulfuric acid can be difficult to get hold of in some countries, so I thought I would try a new method. GOLD RECOVERY with SALT and VINEGAR!
This is awesome ❤❤😊
Thank you. 👍
Can this be used for Glass or porcelain plated objects?
Probably not. It would be very difficult to maintain an electrical connection. A leaching solution would probably be better iodine can leach gold plating. 👍
@ thank you I’m very new to all of this but from my job I got a buuuunch of circuit boards and glassware aswell as porcelain and am trying to learn I would love any pointers you have for me because I have a decent amount and would like to do it right and not just destroy or waste it all
The first tip I will give is before jumping straight in, do some reading and research. Check out the gold refining forum on the Internet and just read some comments. There will be people on there who have made mistakes when starting out, and there's some good advice for the problems they came across
Once you have researched, do small test batches to get comfortable with the reactions.
Como.se.consigue.yoduro.de.potasio.y.cristales.de.yodo
I ordered these items from the Internet. From Etsy.
Nice job , that didn’t look easy . Decent amount of gold . A small sulfuric acid stripping would remove the gold from those heat sinks easily
Thanks man. It wasn't too difficult. Time consuming a little, but it was ok. I believe a stronger concentration would have been better, and I would have probably done them all in one leach. But i was happy with the result. I might use the leach again. And I think I'll get myself to the junkyard and get myself some old car batteries and drain the sulphuric.
If you Do Go This Route Using Those Three Together. When Your Done Does It Make Copper Chloride ? Or Is It Technically Something Else !!
The solution that's remains is mainly copper acetate
@@3-2preciousmetalrecycling I’ve Done Two Rounds Of Gold Plated Pins, Gold Fingers, Gold Plated Connectors, Small Gold Plated Parts And Pieces From Cell Phone Boards. Each Batch I’ve Filtered Off The Particles And Foils From The Spent Solution. I’ve Kept The Solution In A Separate Glass Jar To Use In A Big Glass Container Of Gold Plated Boards, TV Runner Boards, Misc Gold Stuff. It’ll Take A While For It To Be Dissolved In The Solution You Said It’s Copper Acetate. I Was Going To Put A Small 50-100Mills Of Hydrogen Peroxide To Help It Along. That Should Be Fine You Think ?? Also I Wanted To Ask Since I’ve Been Doing This And Moving Through The Steps. When I’ve Used That Copper Acetate After The Next Run Of Boards. If I Stick Some Steel Angle Iron In It Will It Precipitate Copper From That Solution ?? Then If it Does Release The Copper What Would That Solution Be Called ? The Technical Name For It After Copper Has Been Precipitated ? Thanks for Answering All My Questions I Appreciate It Brother !!
I see there at the end your solution went from 150 ml to over 400 ml... I assume you diluted with more water and raised the PH to around 4-5ph with soda ash? Since I see there was no reaction when you dropped the SMB in..
The solution was diluted, yes.
@@3-2preciousmetalrecycling hmm but Why? I see some people do that and I see some don't.
Small amounts of silver chloride can dissolve in a concentrated solution. Silver chloride is insoluble in water. Adding tap water helps to cool the solution and precipitate these small amounts of silver chloride, which then get filtered. The solution also increases every time I filter it due to ensuring all the pregnant solution is washed from the sides of the beakers.
@3-2preciousmetalrecycling Appreciate the responses brother. I've got a batch right now cooking in some acid.
Awesome. Hopefully you get a good amount 👍
Hi. Were the depopulated boards put in hcl to remove all the solder/tin first or just put in copper chloride solution?
The majority of the boards were fingers without any solder on. The small depopulated boards still had small amounts of solder on. this doesn't harm the reaction
this will also dissolve very small amounts of gold.
It shouldn't dissolve any gold. Gold needs to be oxidised to dissolve. The amount of h2o2 in the reaction would only oxidize a small amount of the copper to get the reaction started
@3-2preciousmetalrecycling Yes, it dissolves very small amounts of gold. Next time you do this, throw some sodium metabisulfite in it and you'll get some orange precipitate. It's very little however. Youll spend more on the sodium metabisulfite that you throw in, than the gold you get out. Lol.... But since you're working with copper, the sodium bisulfite will also precipitate copper, so you won't even see the gold if you were to do it. I work with silver/gold rocks with zero copper though. Sodium bisulfite does not precipitate silver. Only gold/copper/and platinum.
Mantap bos 🙏👍
👍
How would you recover the metals leftover in the vinegar peroxide solution?
You could either ion exchange by dropping in a piece of steel. Everything below steel in the reactivity series of metals will drop out. Alternatively, you could place 2 carbon electrodes in and remove everything with electrolysis
What voltage and amps are you using ? Can the electrolyte be made with 17% sulfuric acid with sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate added ? And if yes what would be the percentage of sulfuric acid concentration and distilled water, and how much sodium/potassium nitrate salts ? However with this type of electrolyte solution the silver may fall to bottom as a creamy sludge and may need to be filtered if I'm correct. Buying silver nitrate is very expensive where I live. For me its less expensive to buy a 10oz silver bullion for $400 and dissolve it in acid to make the electrolyte solution.
I was running it between 5 and 8 volts and under half an amp if I remember correctly. Sulfuric acid and a nitrate salt would make a weak nitric acid, and as soon as you added your electrode, the acid would eat it up. I used the silver nitrate crystals as it's the cheapest option for me. If you can do it cheaper by dissolving silver bullion, by all means, use that method. The end result will be the same. Thanks for watching 👍
I love Ur teaching Sir, but in my locality we do not have this chemicals
Please can someone help me with a better offer, I have 100pcs of scrap phone panels.
Please can someone help me with a better offer, I have 100pcs of scrap phone panels.
Nice explanation
Thank you. And thanks for watching 👍
👍
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching 👍
Lol WTF? You're indirectly using acid by purchasing overpriced pre made silver nitrate. What a pointless video.... if you have to do this you shouldn't try and refine anything cause your just going burn money.
No music or at 60% of current volume
Hi can I use salt and vinegar to remove 22ct gold from dishes?
I honestly don't know. I have no experience with dishes.
Why are lids always placed on container during reactions?
Watch glass prevents large evaporation and it prevents anything unexpected from falling into the solution
With evaporation can you have a loss of gold?
Not much but it's a waste of acid, evaporating and re hydrating is another way to rid the solution of nitric acid excess. So I wouldn't imagine that much of a loss
Nice video. Would love it if it was your voice though.
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, as my mother used to say to me, I have a face for radio and a voice for photographs. I use the ai voice to make sure the video is understandable to everyone as I have quite a strong regional accent
Why use sulfamic acid?.explane pls.
Sulfamic acid is used to remove any lead (Pb) present in the solution. The sulphamic acid reacts with the excess nitric acid to produce sulphuric acid. The sulphuric acid converts the lead chloride to lead sulphate, which is insoluble and precipitates from the solution. This can then be removed with filtering
come on man.. quit using these ai voices... wth.. lol atleast you got the facts correct though about ferrous sulfate and smb.. right on
Thanks for watching 👍
trashed old car batteries wink wink
I love your explanation on Ferrous Sulfate vs SMB and why. Good recovery, I have a bunch of e scrap to play with.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching 👍
Well done !
Thanks mate 👍
Does sodium nitrate and sulfuric acid make nitric acid
It does indeed
Ofc makes
You need a good vacuum flask to be able to pull any dissolved gold inside that's left over traped
I have one I just rarely use it
If you find a old oxygen breather apparatus take the motor out it makes a great vacuum pump
What did you do with the fiber
Kept grinding in the pestle until it fits through the sieve
I grind up everything in a blinder
Im glad i didn't throw my fiberglass away thanks
WARNING ⚠️ what he is growing is not Silver Ore; what he's growing is chemically called Silver Sulfate it is a white molar mass. There is very little 💰 in it except in fertilizer. However proximity to it can be dangerous to your health also it will permanently discolor you hand's skin. Google Silver Sulfate.
What? That's pure silver crystal man. You don't know what you are talking about. You can't make sulfates when there is no sulfur involved. The method he showed is how most people get four nines or five nine fine silver.
I thought you couldn’t produce hydrochloric acid with that condition. Don’t you need a mixture of sulphuric acid with it to catalyse the reaction and to produce hydrochloric acid.
For my understanding, it makes a weak dilute hydrochloric acid. Traditionally, hcl is made by reacting sodium chloride and sulphuric acid and liberating the hydrogen chloride gas, which is dissolved in water. When I make hcl myself, I use sodium bisulphate instead of the sulphuric acid
Basically every electrolyte can be used to dissolve the gold into solution. The difficulty is getting the gold from small parts that are not worth putting on a wire
How much silver nitrate crystal do you use when making a solution.
I use 50 grams silver nitrate crystals to every 250ml water. 👍
@3-2preciousmetalrecycling excellent thank you!!!
Nice every Lillie bit adds up .
Thanks man. Who would have thought washing gold you could lose so much
NO MUSIC, we're not here for entertainment....but to learn.
I see some using saltwater. Haven't tried it yet but think I will when ready.
Maybe a small tip for processing the boards. I used to bend them double, they will veer back a bit, i did that to prevent the boards lying flush untop of each other. Thus promoting better acces for the acid to do its job.
Thanks for the tip, Also, thanks for watching 👍👍
What temperature do you distill the sodium bisulfate and potassium nitrate?
119 degrees Celsius
Fan of sulfuric acid stripping cell , but good to know as a back up
I use a electric rotisserie for BBQs'. It has a cage that shuts. I lined the cage with fine steel mesh like window screen. It holds a kilo + of ICs'. I built a fire brick box to put the cage in. It has a hole in the side for the burner. I set all that in a steel pan. Turn on the rotisserie and light the burner. As they burn they tumble , and the ash falls into the tray. Most of the legs and the silicon stays in the basket. Leaving very clean ash with the gold wires. You get the idea.
That's an absolutely brilliant idea, I really like that. I had thought of something similar but a bit bigger for de-populating boards. Boards heat up solder melts, and components fall out onto a tray. I keep thinking of building it, never get round to it. I'd never even thought of an automatic chip crusher. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Thank to you, I understand now that gold foils (and perharps brawn powder too?) use nitric acid up. Gratitude for this knowledge.
Thanks for watching 👍
Yet, you didn't count in your cost of acids, MSB, stannous chloride, etc. Purchasing gold bearing material off Ebay is a loosing proposition.
I agree. That was the point of the challenge. I normally get my gold bearing material for free. I've always thought of eBay to be a rip-off. It would have been nice to get more back than I spent, but to be fair, I got almost all of it back. And it shows people that the ewaste on eBay is well overpriced and not to buy it. I should also say that the purchases were all "buy it now" Maybe if you could win a few bids for cheap, you could make a profit. Thanks for watching 👍
Another 2 gram video, that's all you got, they never show any more than 2 grams
It all adds up. Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent video bro
Thank you very much. Also, thanks for watching 👍👍
Thanks for making it so we dont have to read everything. Appreciate the voice.
Thank you for your feedback. Also, thanks for watching 👍 👍
These a.i. voices are too funny… can tell it’s a.i. cause of the poor pronunciations and it never taking a breath from talking… lmao
