If this current gaming climate was okay with microsoft and acti/blizzard then they should be okay with Sony and kadokawa. But we all know that a certain group of people and some knuckle draggers are gonna be super opposed to the notion.

The only game in the category that shouldn’t be there is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. And it’s hypocritical to say it’s a “new game”. It isn’t. That’s biased bullshit right there from people mad it doesn’t stand a chance with Shadow of the Erdtree there.

Not that Shadow of the Erdtree was bad, I just personally think it shouldn't be on the list and it should instead be either Dragon's Dogma 2 or Stellar Blade. Both were great experiences.

Well it seems you guys miss something entirely. The likely reason Nintendo actually went after Palworld is not because Palworld was successful, but because they tried to take the next step with Sony and Aniplex. Specfically forming Palworld Entertainment. Basically a Sony equivalent to The Pokemon Company. They didn't care if they lose out on game sales because Palworld was better then Pokemon (likely they believe people would buy the Pokemon game regardless) because the game sales are such a small portion of that pie. However A Palworld Entertainment means merch, manga, anime, all that nice stuff where the actual money comes from (Well the merch and maybe TCG). That is the threat to Nintendo, and it is from a company they have bad blood with. Also on the patent. It has nothing to do with a sphere. It just says an item. So you could have thrown a bola, a pyramid, a tessaract, a piece of cheese. It would all be the same under that patent.

It can already be said that the domino effect is already on and the snowball is running. Or at least lawyers no longer recommend the current practice of game studios and developers, that the industry can blindly trusts that the patent holders would allow them to freely use their patented game mechanics, features and functionalities. And the reason is that it it is not the official way to do this and can leads to problems like this Palword case if the patent holders reverse their decision and deny their IPs from others. So, as lawyers have now advised more after this Pokemon vs PocketPair lawsuit, the more legal and safer way would be to buy an official license from the patent holder to use their patent, or avoid using them altogether and do something else instead to implement video games. And I know it can limit and bring challenges to the gaming industry, like in the case of the Nemesis System, but the situation is what it is now and it's hard to come back from this, especially if Nintendo wins this. And finally, a very important note that I'm not a lawyer and this comment is not a legal advice, so I recommend you discuss and negotiate more with your own lawyers if you are game developers.

It’s simple really. If you make a “clone” and you get people to go “well why doesn’t Nintendo just-“ that’s alll it takes for them to come at your pockets, they don’t want to try or change the formula really so the competition that’s actually good is actually threatening.

If you look at the response in Japan, the consensus is Pocket Pair had it coming because the CEO was making fun of Nintendo/Pokemon while imitating their designs. So they feel like they don’t respect the source material but want profit off of similar ideas, and that’s why they went after them with the patents.

the funny thing is that this is going to backfire on nintendo, if this is indeed about the catching mechanic than it'll bring to light that pokemon did not create the catching mechanic and this can lead to the patent being terminated by the patent office in japan because to hold a patent it has to have specific critria one being that no one else has used it prior to the patent being lodged, the patent office obviously dropped the ball when they approved it
