Part two of my ride around Vanissart Woods continues at Pittock Lake. I ride the trails on the west side of the lake then cross the dam to the east side of the lake to explore the conservation area and trails on that side. I discover full network of trails I have not previously ridden before heading back to Innerkip.

Interesting, but not conclusive. could do with some commentary, or subtitles to inform the viewer.
Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't actually planning on doing a Neo review at the time. Just didn't work for me that day. Worked fine with my mountain bike though.
I may also have to ask, the fuel efficiency, what is your experience with that until this point and has it met your expectations?
We have over 20,000 km on the CX50 now. We are averaging 9.5 liters per 100 km which is approximately 25 mpg. It is about what we expected although not as good as our Mazda 6 GT. Our CX50 has the 2.5 L turbo, the Mazda 6 has the non turbo. It is 2 l/100 km better on gas. We do appreciate the extra power of the turbo but if gas mileage is a priority, go with the non turbo. The 2.5 non turbo is still a good engine. Our 2017 Mazda has over 140,000 km on it and we have had zero issues.
Incredible video - I’m in the market for this exact vehicle so I’m happy to hear your experiences thus far. Thank you!
Dude planning to live 130 years lol
? Would be nice but not following the reference. ?
hows the floor in this river? slimy rocks?
River is good. If you do need to get out the water is fine. Not many sections where you have to worry about rocks.
Hi, What did you pay for it if you don't mind me asking. I'm about to go look at one myself and not sure how much markup / over invoice or under MSRP should be expecting. I did pull a Unhaggle report and it shows the GT non-turbo is $42,500 give or take.
We bought the GT Turbo and added the cargo matts and tint. We were 47K before tax.
@@midlifeexplorer160 thank you. That’s a good baseline for my negotiation. Can you also share what dealer you went to?
Kieswetter Mazda in Kitchener.
Terrific video!
I have never paddled this section. Certainly will now. And again, my hat is off to the tunes master. A lovely watch & listen.
The access is super easy, as is the paddling.
Stayed there August 1988…pretty location, for sure. Found it in a magazine…BEFORE the internet. 😊
Thank you. Beginner is what I need.
How many Km is the completed loop? And where’s a good starting point with parking? Looks like a great trail
@@rfo23 It is 40 to 50 km depending on which trails you pick. We ride some of the single track trails heading down river and back up. We start from the parking lot on East River Road just of Paris. Lots of good maps online.
Did you see any fish there
Yes, but fishing is not my thing so I could not tell you what types. The marsh is full of birds so there has to be lots of fish.
I was expecting to see the condemned truss bridge over Township road 12. Did I miss something?
@@georgelewis3047 That is the second bridge on Township road 12. We started at that bridge last year when the river was running much faster.
That area should be beginner level.
those were some great paddles, can't wait till u get that spray skirt
Thanks, your video answered many questions about poorly marked trails. Looks like you have to go down a residents driveway at King St E near the Grand River to get to the Pioneer Tower. The entrance at Canoeing the Grand says it’s closed.
Thanks for watching the video. I think the first time we rode that trail we tried to follow the trails on our own. Second time we used the maps from Garmin Connect.
my fear is farm dogs on the loose
@@philiprayner We have run into farm dogs from time to time but never had an issue.
The upper limit for paddling is 200 cbm/s in Galt.
Two woman drowned on this river a day after you made this video
I know. They got stuck under the dam in Kitchener. That is why I include the flow rates. I always check before paddling any of the local rivers. I have been paddling this stretch of river for 20 years. We ran into tubers and paddle boarders on our way to Paris but they pull out in Glen Morris or at Grand Adventures.
Awesome! Looks like a fun run with all that water!
How tall are you guys and what size bikes?
I am 5' 8' and ride a medium. Gord is 6' and rides a large. Both are 29er's.
@@midlifeexplorer160 Thanks. I'm 6'4'' and trying to decide between an XL and XXL Talon E+ 29 2, heh. I'm sure range differences would be basically negligible as far as frame size. Cheers.
Skip to 39:00 to get the answer to the question in the video title.
Really enjoyed this, but I found the constant music very bothersome. Do you have a version with just the sounds of nature and paddling? Thanks!
Not this particular video. Later videos have less music. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching.
How long did it take to paddle this section?
It was a 5 hour paddle but we stopped 3 times.
@@midlifeexplorer160 Thanks looking at doing this route on the weekend!
Nice perspective and smooth drone work.
Thank you for sharing this video. I hope to one day have paddled the whole entire Saugeen River so it's nice to be able to see another section that I haven't been on before. We normally go in July or August and the furthest we've done is from is access 12 to 15. I hate getting out at Denny's dam however. Is not very well set up in my opinion, especially if you have people with with some mobility and strength issues. My mom is 72 years old and is starting to find it hard getting out of the kayak because of hip issues. Thankfully we usually have two gentlemen with us who are able to help carry the kayaks, it's just a matter of getting out of them that's usually the biggest issue. We're looking at possibly kayaking from access 9 to either 13 or 14. I just need to take a look at 14 again and see how hard it would be for getting out at that point. Any suggestions on which access point to stop at for a lunch break if we do the trip I'm talking about? Sorry I'm assuming you have paddled the whole Saugeen.
Great run lads. And saving time of a wee brew - what a perfect way to end a beautiful paddle🍺
That deer was fast crossing the river wow!
Great paddle you two! Love seeing all your adventures!!
What a beautiful run!!!!! Thanks to you guys we now know what a fun paddle the Nith is. Thank you for your videos AND including flow levels. Keep up the excellent work🛶. P.S. Good tunes!
Thanks for the feedback and for watching the video. We have fun on our Friday afternoons and hope the videos help others if they are looking for more information. Glad you liked the tunes also.
Thanks for the video - I have only 900 km on mine so far, but I like what I see so far. My phone got very hot on the wireless charger, have you experienced this?
Hi - yes, the phone gets hot on the wireless charger on mine also. I have used it quite a lot though and have not had any issues with my iphone.
Thanks for the great videos guys - beautiful paddle - O the broken dam. Please post your last Friday Canning run soon. 🍻Cheers
Working on Canning right now. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

5:40 watching videos again hoping to connect with you guys either as a group or just to add to yours for a day trip. Not keen on kayaking unknowns just yet. And you guys have done this a few times now.
We are out every Friday afternoon and have explored may of the rivers in the area. Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks very much for the video. We are considering the CX50 and will be test driving soon in Canada. I am curious if you have received any over-the-air updates yet, or are software updates provided only during a service appt at the dealership? Perhaps updates will help improve the wireless CarPlay issues you mentioned?
Hi - no updates so far and the car has been in for it's first service.
How is the highway Road noise for passengers in rear seats in Mazda CX50 GT Non-Turbo?
I have a turbo but I don’t think that matters much. It is quiet considering the amount of glass (considering the panoramic sunroof).
Thanks Dave , for such an in depth review of the cx50. My wife and I test drove both the cx90 and 5 last night in that order. The contrast between the two was very different. Both great vehicles but the cx90 is just on a whole other level. The aspects of the interior of the cx50 seem a little more in line with the cx90 with how you describe it but I’ve yet to sit in one. The wife isn’t exactly turned on by the more (rugged) look of the front end but hopefully after seeing this video, she’ll keep an eye out on the things you pointed out. Question: Dollar for dollar, bang for the buck, which cx50 trim level is your favorite? And how do I convince her she won’t look out of place in a “rugged “ looking vehicle at the nail salon?😁
If you are in Canada, there are only 3 trim levels. The GS-L is probably the trim level to go with unless you want the turbo or full leather interior. Unless you plan to actually go off road, I like the look of the GT better. Thanks for watching the video and the feedback.
Mazda fam, enjoy!
One dink just killed a deer, please get it
Nice video. Was part of this on the single track just south of the 403 heading towards Hardy rd and the foot bridge? I'm from Brantford but somehow only just learnt we have single track there.
The Powerline Down trail starts closer to Paris off the SC Johnson trail. There are two sections that head down to the foot bridge with the trail closer to the river being more technical. It runs under the 403 with the first section the most difficult. We found the trail on Trail Forks.
e-bikes aren't gonna help with the beer belly.
I beg to differ. I lost 20 lbs last season. Giant ebikes are pedal assist with no throttle .I ride on level 1 or level 2 so we can get the ranges we normally ride (normally 70 to 90 kms). We ride further as a result of the ebikes. I still get my heart rate up to near the max for my age for 4 to 5 hours at a time. I am much healthier because of my ebike. You should try it sometime.
@@midlifeexplorer160 same here..thanks to e bike
I’m in Galt and planning on getting the 11xt. I found a deal for $500. Are you still enjoying it? Hoping to use it for the grand and potentially at some point go back country camping. Will it work?
Hi - yes, we still use it. We have an 11XT and a 9XT. Definitely go with the 11. I have covered most of the Grand River included many times from Cambridge to Paris. You can see lots of videos of how it handles the Grand. I have never used it for camping however. The back storage is great, and it has two bulkheads (I have tried to sink it twice :-) . There are no tie downs or a hatch on the front however, but you could add tied downs. Very stable boat.
It's unbelievable how much Mazda gives all these features compared to Honda. Was thinking of getting HRV/ZRV, but with a bit more money, I can get a GT model with all these perks❤
It is a very well equipped car once you get into the GT trim. I was shopping the CX50 against BMWs and Infinitys and it competes well if you factor in the price difference.
I’ve been looking at this car for over a year now test drove the red one and it was a great car I regret not buying it now after watching your video….
Looks awesome!! Thanks for sharing your joy of riding. I really love the Walter Bean trail as I live in Cambridge.
Thanks for the comment. Can't wait to get back there (top of our list this spring).
I dropped into the local dealer to look at the CX-90 again as I cancelled my April 16 allocation on a new 2024 Tacoma as my wife hated the comfort and space in the Tacoma test drive model. She really likes the Highlander, but I found the handling and ride just so plain so I hoped to look at the CX-70 which is not expected until next month. The CX-90 is basically the same and I really liked how much better it felt driving. My wife thought it looks too big for us empty nesters and she saw and really liked the smaller white CX-50 GT they had on the floor with orange interior. We took one out for a test drive and we loved it and couldn't believe all the features you get and how well the CX-50 handled and rode. I have had two Mazda pickups, three Miatas and an RX-7 over the years and have not really had the Mazda driving experience in a daily driver. I still have my 2009 Miata GT PRHT and think the CX-50 could give me a sporty drive for the months that the Miata is in storage. Here's my question... my wife's only complaint was the firmness of the front seats... even after the month you've had the CX-50, do the seats get any softer?
Hi - the front seats are quite firm and have not changed much over the first month. We have been on a couple of long drives and I don't mind them. The CX5 is very similiar and has softer seats if that is a concern. It has the same driving dynamics as the CX50.
@midlifeexplorer160 Thanks for the reply! We love the look of the CX-50. We took the vehicle out again today for an hour highway and city driving and the wife was okay with the seat comfort after a few adjustments. We are buying next week and I appreciate your feedback!
I watched the entire video and I get bored easily and often skip. I greatly apreaciate The context of which you provided, and all of the comments on the vehicle. I’m currently debating upgrading for my 2020 Mazda 3GT AWD to the either the CX 50 or the CX five and having difficulty deciding between the two. The CX five is slightly faster, and get slightly better fuel economy, and it’s a bit better with us driving dynamics, but definitely slightly less capable in some mild Off Roading situation’s. I also like that the CX 50 turbo can tow 3500 pounds which is at the top of its category Your Mazda six looks like it’s in pristine condition for its age. I can tell that you really take care of your vehicles! Mazda focusses a lot of attention on build quality and they sculpt their interior so well that it doesn’t just have a bunch of nice materials thrown in there, but they’re all very thought out and cohesive.
Thanks for watching the video and your comments. I would have a hard time giving up a 2020 Mazda 3GT (nice car). CX5 and CX50 are both good choices. I would definitely go with the turbo.
Buy regular Japanese cx5 over usa cx50. Turbo engine has delusion some gasoline go to oil
@@yournightmare9999 I really like the CX5 also but the CX50 has more room inside and has a lower roof line so I can load my kayaks. The car has a 5 year drivetrain warranty so any issues (if the come up) are under warranty. I think the turbo issues on the Mazda engines were with the older Mazda CX-7. The CX5 and CX50 share the same powertrain so we went with the CX50 as it has more space. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.
@midlifeexplorer160 I have cx9 and 2 cx5. And I was sitting in cx 90 50 30 so I know how much space there is and what kind of car they are. That's why I tell to stay with cx5 non turbo is best option
@@yournightmare9999 I understand where you are coming from. We currently also onw a Mazda 3 and Mazda 6. Both have the 2.5 regular aspirated engine and the only drawback to both cars is they need a little more power. The 2.5 turbo provides that. Fingers crossed we don't have any issues in 6 or 7 years but we definitely like to CX 50 better.
How much time did it take from booking till the delivery?
We purchased from that was available on the lot. We had our car in 3 days. Kieswetter has lots of CX50s in stock.
@@midlifeexplorer160 great. Thanks a lot for your reply. Looking to buy one soon in Ontario.
Great review. I currently own a 2014 Mazda6 GT, bought it new, It is a great car, I have had zero problems with it, just regular maintenance. It is time for something new and I'm sticking with Mazda, I have been interested in a CX50 and it was nice to hear your review as you also own the same car I have and how they compare.
We are still holding on to our Mazda 6GT. If you are looking for an SUV / CUV I would drive both the CX5 and the CX50. They are very similiar.
I bought a 2024 CX-50 Select which is the base model a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I have a Toyota Highlander and a Subaru Forester and Outback and I love the Mazda the most. The other cars are really good cars but in my opinion the Mazda looks and drives the best.
We didn't drive a Highlander but did drive an Outback. I liked the Outback but did not care for the CVT and the Mazda handles much better. Thanks for the comment!
