Stuck In A Rut? How To Get Creative When You're A Busy Mom
Ever feel like motherhood has taken your creative juices?
The skill of leaning into your creative side and being able to acknowledge how creative you are just by being a mom can be overlooked and sometimes hard to believe.
There is a weird theme of wanting to undermine all that we do as mothers and as parents. All of the juggling, planning, and moving parts that go into being a mom are too great to be ignored.
In this video I share how motherhood has refined, shaped, and opened my eyes to more creative parts to myself than I realized I had. I hope that you feel more encouraged and get back in touch with your sense of wonder about who you are and all that you are capable of being. These realizations help me to be and stay in touch with my creativity, despite all the chaos that comes with being a single working mom.
Thank you for spending some time with me today! If you want more videos like this or want to share your story in motherhood and parenting don't forget to like, subscribe AND leave a comment below sharing. You might be surprised how much sharing a story can help another person.

When My Life Blew Up | From Stay at Home Mom to Moving in W/ My Parents
I resonated with this so much, but in the realm of fatherhood. I never grew up dreaming of being a dad. I always had lots of creative plans; drawing, illustrating, design, writing. But those things always seemed unable to carry the weight of meaning I sought to find in them. But my world changed when I became a dad. Those other pursuits paled in comparison. I would be filled with joy if I could fade in history if I could only guide my boys to be men who seek the Lord. I love how you describe it as a creative pursuit. Not only the physical beginning of life, but every moment in their lives is a chance to guide and nurture in new ways. Thank you for this video.
I'm so glad to hear you resonated from the angle of fatherhood. Sometimes I want to direct it at both but feel I have no idea the perspective of dads and all that they carry. That's a very beautiful comparison and one I'm sure many parent's can relate to. Finding and searching for fulfillment in work, friend groups, and all the outer areas of life we can get praise from but until you have a baby the amount of love and meaning is almost impossible to describe. Thank you for your comment and sharing your perspective as a dad!
I'm sorry to comment on these older videos, but I stumbled upon your channel and had to go back and watch the beginning ones. I know this is eight months later, but I wanted to tell you how much I resonated with these stories. My almost twenty year marriage ended about a year and a half ago, after an almost decade decline. Like you said, I am also of the mind that marriage is for life and I could stand the false accusations and the lack of any respect if it meant an intact home for my boys. But the papers were filed and I lost all say in that outcome anymore. Thankfully, I have been able to be a stable source for my two boys, and even for her as she has been dealing with her own things. I don't know if there will ever be repentance, but I still pray for that every day. I have to say, this has been the hardest times, but also the most viscerally connected to the Lord I have ever been. I don't think an obsessed view of self is anything to do with it, but merely coming back into a relationship with Him of constant trust and provision through the darkest nights. Being eight months ago, I'm sure you've made progress. I just wanted to leave a note of encouragement and thanks.
Please don't apologize. They are left up for a reason. I am so sorry to hear you have had to go through something similar but am grateful that you are able to connect with my story. My hope in sharing and putting it out there was to let other people know that they weren't alone in the pain and struggle of something so life altering, and it helped me remind myself that I wasn't alone in it either. It's beautiful and encouraging for me to hear a small piece of your story and to find it brought you closer to God. Having faith makes a profound difference. In all of the chaos I found so much peace in prayer and worship. It made me realize how resilient we are meant to be, and are capable of being, when we truly lean in through hard times. I really appreciate your encouragement and acknowledgement of a story in my life. I have made progress but also am not sure what to anticipate in the future. I do my best to take each day with a positive attitude, an opportunity for a fresh start, and give thanks. I wish you all the peace, love, and encouragement you can embrace each day. Stay in the presence, you're doing great.
@@JasmineFrances indeed, those moments where the future looms and it is hard to see through the fog, it can be difficult to know what to expect or to be at peace in that moment. Anticipation for the future can so easily sway to anxiety. Romans 11:33-36, Colossians 1:16-17 But it can be so comforting, in the midst of being overwhelmed, to close your eyes and remember who your God is. How much he loves you and your little ones and no matter what happens, He is good. I'll be praying for you and your family.
Also want to come back to life again at 55 yo. I know I'm missing much, but my fears always get the best of me. So I wish you many luck in your fight.
I wish you all the courage you can hold on your journey back to life!
You ask a lot of good questions. It's good to reflect on the past year as the new year begins. Simplicity. Such an easy thing but people always overcomplicate things. Nuked Coffee studios huh????? is that a peek at things to come? I liked how you were changing colors from the original and was funny before you got to it in the video was thinking "i think she should make the letters one color.." and then you did lol. I know this is a little scatterbrain, lack of sleep lately
That is funny! I have been going all over the place with this logo, but that will be in a video to come! Perhaps it's a peek into something! :D Yes, simplicity is loaded in its own way and something I think I struggle with a bit within my practice. I'm sorry you're tired! I hope you're able to get lots of rest this weekend!!
Happy New Year 🎉
You did such an amazing job on your office. Those outlet covers came out awesome!!!! and I really liked the sketches at the end. Unfortunately, to answer your previous reply on last video, I have not done any art in months. Work has been beating me up lately. Happy New Year
Thank you so much!! I liked them, too!! A little fun a little quirky. You've been such a fun addition to making these videos and such a positive and encouraging light. I truly appreciate you. Hmm, well I hope in the new year you're able to make the amount of art that brings you peace each week. Happy New Year to you!
👏👏👏👏👏👏 Came out awesome. Also, like how you displayed the records on the wall. Have a Merry Christmas
Thank you! Fun to keep exploring new mediums, I hope you've had some time to create more work! Me too, I LOVE IT! Have a very Merry Christmas, @patrickmeyer3534 !
Hello Jasmine, I just so much love this painting ❤ it is very beautiful, and your colleague will be so beyond happy to receive it 🫶🎄
@margo-ej2xo thank you so much! It was so fun to watch come to life, I'm so happy you enjoyed it :)

Hey Jasmine that came out amazing, Mrs jack-of-all-trades. Somehow missed part 1 will have to go back and watch. Excellent job tho. You should be very proud with that work
Thank you! The room has really come together and I surely have been enjoying it! It will be nice to have a space like this to create in, feel very grateful! ☺️
Really enjoying your stuff! One note is the bg music is a tad too loud. Just a thought for future vids, keep up the great work.
I actually really appreciate that feedback, thank you! I will keep that in mind moving forward.
So inspiring. Thank you for sharing your routine and priorities. And nice drawings
Thank you so much for your kind response and for tuning in! 😃
I’m a new mama and want to get back into it. Thanks for the encouragement ❤😊
Congratulations to you! It is such a wonderful time and any and all encouragement is so important. So happy I was able to give some of that to you! ❤️
I resonate so much with you. I too am a stay at home mom with two kids with same ages as yours. I restarted drawing and painting to recharge myself. If I don't make use of my creativity I feel like I'm going down in a void. When I'm drawing or painting with my kids its more for them then for myself, just scribbles and doodles or some collage.
That is such a powerful way of putting it, "going down in a void." Yes, I love getting creative with them and encouraging their creativity but it is for them when I am with them. It's a lot different when you can really tune in and get lost in whatever it is you choose to create. Thank you so much for sharing about yourself. (: Keep in mind you taking that time to make use of your creativity is so good for your family, too. Never stop!!
@JasmineFrances totally agree. If I'm actively creating I feel I'm a better mom and a better person in general. When I feel anxious and frustrated, I know what I'm lacking.
@@itsmerowena yes exactly! Do you ever find yourself procrastinating or putting "more important things" before creative time? Especially with all the rolling tasks that come with parenthood, sometimes I find myself reasoning why art can't happen in a day and I wonder if you can relate or if you have any tips about that?! lol
Hey stranger! Good to see you back 🙂
Hello!! So good to hear from you! :)
What do you do for a living? I love that you are making time for your art. I need it to decompress after my shifts at work ( I am a psych nurse). When my children were young we drew together almost daily. I always had all sorts of different projects for them to do. We made our own clay, playdough, fake stained glass with egg shells, I pre cut out shapes when they were really young, and they glued that to make designs. Always something with them, and later with their friends.
I am a Procurement Specialist for a company that decommissions retired oil rigs! And thank you (: Wow, I can only imagine how nice it is to get after some art after a shift for you. I love that you shared the creativity with your kids. I don't do that as often as I think about doing it and that's something I'd like to work on. My oldest who is 3 appreciates and gets excited about the art that I make, which fills me with so much joy, and I would love for him to get as excited about working on projects of his own/ us together. I love the stained glass idea! Especially as a gift for a grandparent or an ornament...will you please share how you did that?!
LOL I love it. I was waiting to see what your were going to do with the background...and was pleasantly surprised with the wave design. It really did compliment the who painting. I like the shark a lot, this was a great idea. The tones in the shark came out really good.
Thank you!!! 🤣 I thought it turned out very playful which is exactly what I was hoping for! So glad you enjoyed it, too!!
Jaz you know artists are their own worst critics. Also, having the courage to discuss something you messed up or don't like helps other people as well. A lot of people don't like to say I created something that didn't come out good. Because what are mistakes? Learning experiences. No artist is prefect no person is perfect. And the best thing about it, you can do it over. The hardest thing is to keep going. I think this was a great video on overcoming that. A lot of artist like to show hey I did this amazing picture...but I'm not going to show the ten failed attempts prior. 😊🦖
Ohhh loved your last line! So true, which is just a human thing to do with the internet these days, but that's part of why I ended up making the video the way that I did. So I'm SO HAPPY that you got something out of it and have so much encouragement- as usual! You're so kind Mr. Patrick. In the end the dang Dinosaur did grow on me a bit so that's a plus hahah.
I just discovered your channel during my still-waking-up-breakfast-quiet-time-on-the-computer and it was very chill and fun to watch you put your creativity into action, and your words were genuinely helpful. Thank you for making this. *high-fives*
Thank you for letting me be a part of your still-waking-up-breakfast-quiet-time-on-the-computer time! I'm so happy to hear what I shared was helpful, means so much! High fives back!
😀👏👏👏👏🦆🎨
Bottoms Up!
@@JasmineFrances thats a good name for that painting. I have roughed out a sketch that I want to actually try watercolors on which you inspired by your floral paintings and use of the medium. And I'm completing a thought from the other thread of comments you don't need to apologize for not answering a comment. there is another comic book Idea I have which I am working on character designs, very slow process
Thank you, I liked it! Get out, that's amazing! If you care to share, what is the sketch of? Thanks for your understanding, I appreciate that! Oh that's very cool! I have started to gain some interest in learning more about character development and it definitely seems like a process. Very exciting though!
The paintings turned out beautiful! You are so talented! 💕 🎨
Thank you so much!!
Those came out amazing. I really enjoyed the video. It's funny you mention the chaos in the pallet, because i always do what I call see shapes of figures in the chaos. So in the pallet there are things I can see and want to draw. So I am onboard with messy pallet. I liken it to seeing faces or souls in trees and just what people see in the clouds. But very nice work on the flowers.
Thank you so much! My sister was very happy with them, I was too! Ohhh that's a great comparison from the palette to the clouds. That's such a great idea and way to force yourself to see something in 'nothing' you know? I'm going to tuck that away as a warm up exercise or to use if I feel stuck! Glad we're on the same page with a pretty palette !!
👏👏👏👏Great video and words of wisdom. Loved the flamingo, and it's exactly what I tell me too. Drawing from life is great but if your not moved by what's around, open a national geographic or go online and find some kind of reference. Looking forward to seeing the website, also really loved the first nuked coffee design (maybe should make you own coffee brand to such a great name) and God bless you i'll drink it cold rather than nuking it lol.
This was so helpful because I was actually debating between the two logos! I love the first one but after getting some feedback I adjusted to the second and it just wasn't quite "it" for me. Perhaps I'll have to play with the first concept a bit more and then she'll be golden! Thank you for all of your encouragement, appreciate you! HAHA, well lucky for us all, we are all entitled to our own coffee drinking ways!
@JasmineFrances wait what do you mean everyone is entitled to theor own ways of drinking coffee??? Lol. Remember Jasmine always go with your gut. No matter what the masses say sometimes in art you need to just go with what you feel. No one can guide you, your art guides you. And i think you know why.
Ohhhh yes! Thank you for that, that was refreshing! I mean each person has the right to take their coffee the way they like! Nuked, iced, lukewarm! There's not judgement here! I also have mine with cream and honey so 🤷♀️
@@JasmineFrances I know, I was joking 🤣
You just never know these days hahaha
I can only assume you're escaping violence and I just want you to know that yes, you are not alone, you are not at fault, and what you have done will rescue your children from so much future pain. You are amazing.
@hoppingwren thank you so much for your encouragement and kindness. Thankful for you.
You Go Girl!!
Thank you!! 😊
Hi....I stumbled across your channel. Can you explain why you and your children moved in with your parents?
Hey! Thanks for asking, if you want a bit more detail I would recommend watching this video, ua-cam.com/video/Mb1mCZ-2K8E/v-deo.html Overall I am going through a divorce, that video gives a decent picture of the situation. I plan to make a video sharing all of what happened but am letting the dust settle before doing so.
Hey friend, i noticed you mentioned hiring a lawyer for divorce. I wanted to encourage you to look at 1 Corinthians 7:10-16, and 1 peter 3. I definitely strongly recommend you stay with him if it is possible and if he doesn't allow you back to remain single and not divorce him while working to restore your marriage. I know this subject isn't taught about much but the Bible covers everything we need to know for marriage and living a God honoring life.
Hey, thank you for the encouragement. I did look at the scriptures and I will say, because I am not quite ready to make a video regarding all that is going on yet, 1 Corinthians 7:15-16 would be my case and therefore biblically, God want's peace for those who believe in him. That scripture alone says if the unbeliever is the one who walks away then there is no bondage for the one who believes, so why would I try to stay bonded? I don't know that I understand how one not allowing the other back and then the other working on the restoration of a marriage is possible because it takes two people in each and every relationship. Just like God won't restore a person if they are not pursuing him, in relationship with him, and trying to know and understand all he desires for his people. I believe that your heart is in a good place and I do appreciate you taking the time to share scripture with me. I suppose all I can say is that I trust that God is with me in all of this and my faith is in Him and he can and will do whatever it is that needs to be done. At this time all I am focused on is my mental health and being a wonderful mother for my boys. ❤️
Hi there, being a single mom while also being expected to take care of finances is rough. It's so nice your parents have allowed you all to stay with them. IDK this dynamic, but if this is working for everyone, maybe do it for a couple years - until the kids have reached age 3 at least. I'm not sure if the ex is paying child support or what... If you want to do the daycare thing to gain more working experience for your resume, and bring in a little money while getting to spend time with your kids - that's a fair option, but i wouldn't suggest doing it for the kids, if that makes sense. The kids don't need daycare, parents do. Otherwise, maybe you can try to be a stay at home mom raising your kids, but also helping your parents as needed (grocery shopping, paying bills, get the car inspected, help with lawn care, etc.) so you feel like your contributing and they don't feel like you're taking advantage? Again, IDK the dynamic. Your friend looking out for you is super sweet - sounds like a nice job to have, so i understand the struggle in trying to decide. All of this said, i don't even have my own life figured out yet. Best of luck to you! 🤗
Hi! Yes, that does make perfect sense. When I've watched the video back I can see how badly I am contemplating the "right" thing instead of considering that there isn't always a right or wrong. In my first video I share quite a bit about my feelings toward daycare. I understand its purpose but I was a stay at home mom for more reasons than just the cost of it. I believe in the benefit for the kids, wholeheartedly. I am still in I guess what could be considered the early stages of divorce so there is no steady money coming in just yet. The dynamic is fine, there will be adjustments but there is grace extended on both ends so I know we could make it work for an extended period of time if we needed to- which would probably be the best thing for the boys. This is one of those times where having a lot of societal noise makes it feel "embarrassing" instead of being happy and thankful for how it's all working out, you know what I mean? I do appreciate you taking the time to share and help me to articulate more what matters to me and what is most beneficial to my kids. Well maybe you don't need to! Something tells me you're probably doing better than you think! Thank you for the luck!
@@JasmineFrances ❤️
STELLAR VIDEO!!! KEEP GOING!!!! BEEN HERE!!!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Thank you!! ❤️
Thank you for sharing your story. I also am a mom of 2, I’m 32 years old and my life blew up last year. Am currently living with my parents too! So thankful for family.
Wow how crazy! I’m sorry to hear this and I hope you have settled in and have had all the support you need to heal and get through it. Yes, so thankful!
I'm glad you know where to turn when things are hard. When I was 19ish Jesus saved me. I went from being a child, scared of hell so i got baptized and was always told to remember that day of i ever questioned my salvation. Everyone would affirm i was a Christian. So finally i realized i wasn't like what the Bible taught and went the way opposite of the Scriptures. Ironically when a girl asked me if i had spiritual beliefs i said I'm a Christian but don't act like one, i started questioning things. Eventually God convicted me of the truth that i didn't know him. I realized if i was to die that very second i was in hell forever because i was in rebellion against God and He is holy and perfect. I finally surrendered to Jesus, and the work He did by dying on the cross to save the world from their sins, was buried and then raising himself from the grave on the third day, to defeat death so we can have eternal life, which i want to say is free to anyone who will just put their faith (confidence) in Him. It's amazing when you're not burdened by sins anymore and get to be truly free.
That’s a beautiful story, thank you so much for sharing! I hope it lends itself to more than just me. Relationship with Jesus can feel tricky or “imaginary” when you’re sort of just conforming or floating through it all. I grew up catholic and my sister and I talk about this a lot. Our lack of understanding and knowing. But it becomes so fun and interesting when you dive into the Bible and prayer. I always notice so much more awareness in my daily life and seeing all the connections that are made. Im in the middle of a great book all about the flesh and sin, it’s packed right now but I wonder if you’ve read it!
@@JasmineFrancesI haven't Heard of it. So you mentioned you were raised Catholic. Are you still Catholic?
No, I would consider myself Christian. I’ve attended more nondenominational church’s than anything else in the last 5 years!
I'm praying God will help you. It's great you understood how important and great it is for your kids to be at home with them nurturing them as only a mother is created to do. Whatever the situation is exactly, i gather you left your husband because you felt you had to? I know i probably have no idea what's actually going on, is it possible to return to your husband and restore your marriage? I hate seeing families breaking apart so want to encourage that whenever possible. Praying blessings and restoration for you and your children.
That is correct...I will make a video more in depth of all of this when the time is right. I don't think it's appropriate just because of all the feelings around everything. I would hate to put something out there before I was in a place to do it the right way. Thank you for your love and support and I will take all the prayers you're willing to pray- especially for my little guys. I also hate seeing families broken apart, it's heartbreaking, in all the heartbreak remaining hopeful is all I can think to do.
That sounds wise! ❤❤
Big love to you Mama ❤ I'm so glad you've got family to support you.
Gosh, me too! Thank you for the love I'll be sending some right back your way.
i'm afraid you made a misstep by so honestly sharing your convictions around importance of stay at home mom. that will alienate all women who gladly flee the home to go into the workplace. maybe edit a few of those specific sentences out
Thank you for taking the time to leave some of your thoughts. My goal is to share my process and journey as honestly as I can, it’s funny you mention this because I plan on making another video diving into this specifically as I’ve realized as I walk through all of this there is a belief I’ve created. My hope is never to alienate anyone, but to express what I’m going through as rawly as possible in hopes it can speak to others hearts and bring us together.
@@JasmineFrancesI'm afraid I'm not deep enough into your video to understand the situation, but I saw this comment and want to encourage you not to listen to the subtle deceiving/discouragement about wanting to stay at home with your children. I've been there. In college I had to write a paper about my upbringing and bias I need to identify, the feminist professor was constantly saying don't use terms like a broken home, I pushed back and was so glad I did, because she couldn't justify her position but I could. Anyways, sorry you're having a hard time whatever it is and may God restore and correct any problems your family is facing.
@@Shelb13v Thank you for this! I'm proud of you for doing that, I am sure it was hard and uncomfortable! It's interesting to me that verbiage like that would bother your professor. I think we do ourselves such a disservice when we aren't willing to share things we've been through. Of course not everyone will agree or understand but isn't part of human connection offering the willingness to love and listen anyway? Thank you for all your prayers, I receive all of them!
@@JasmineFrancesso true! I think that the professor had an agenda to push feminism, and usually deducted points for things like that. And yes! It helps to be able to say what you're feeling and thinking and get good advice. We were definitely designed with the need to express ourselves. Hopefully you have a good friend to listen to you and give Godly advice in your hard situation. I'm a Christian and have been helped greatly (and seen amazing things happen for other women) by 1 Corinthians 7 and 1 peter 3. I'll definitely try to say a prayer if your situation comes into my mind.
Nah, you made a misstep in leaving such an ignorant and passive aggressive comment.

Thank you for being here ❤
Even though you are living in a complicated time, you are very positive, and I am sure that your baby boys will be very proud of you. You will bloom and will thrive! 🎉
Thank you so much ❤️ I am so hopeful of these outcomes. Your kind words are so appreciated.
Hey girl, it's tough enough but very rewarding being a parent, and it s ok to lose some of you when you become a parent, we r all trying to figure out how to be a great parent together with accomplishing any goals that we had prior to becoming one+ house chores, cooking and all that jazz. Don't feel alone, I feel like most moms are going through it. It s even more challenging if you don't want to use the daycare, since you need people around who will help you to take care of the children, while you follow your career plans.Let's be friends ❤😊
You’re so right, the more I am willing to talk about things the more I learn how many other moms feel the same way. Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement at a much needed time. Yes, let’s be friends! Just saw your channel, excited to check out your music, how awesome! ❤️

@@GetRumbleD which two are they?! The claymation may be a bit tricky because it is pretty old… but a classic nonetheless 😊
@@JasmineFrances Home alone and Grinch
@@GetRumbleD the others are Scrooge, Elf (the movie), Kris Kringle from Santa Claus is comin’ to town (an old claymation), and Charlie Brown!
