1938 Centaur Tractor Restoration
Gary Bartlett from East Jordan, MI spent about 2 years restoring his 1938 Centaur Tractor. The tractor was used by Leelanau County as a mower. It sat outside for about 7 years before Gary bought it from a friend in 1996 and started his restoration. Gary did his own welding, cutting and fabricating to restore this beauty. Gary is an avid tractor collector and has restored several tractors over the years. This is one of his favorites.

Gary Bartlett from East Jordan, MI spent 2 years restoring his 1939 Ford 9N Tractor. He bought it from a friend - after it was stored in a barn for several years. He took out the original motor and replaced it with a diesel car engine. Gary did his own welding, cutting and fabricating to restore this beauty. I love it. Is a super cool restomod.
That’s not a 39, a 39 has an aluminum steering column with the starter button on the dash, not near the shifter, a snap in battery cover, not hinged, 2 rib fenders, not single rib like what’s here, there are bits and pieces of a 9n but this is mostly 2n
Kudos on the restoration of an early tractor!..and for resisting the urge to molest it by painting it like an 8N!..9N, NO RED!... :)
Amazing and beautiful. Thanks for sharing..
Have family in East Jordan, great area. love the tractor! Well done!
That is an awful thing to do to a 1939 model. It needs to stay original. There are plenty of other diesel tractors you can buy
I agree on the motor, but at least it looks correct...at least he didn't paint it like an 8N...
The smooth axles are pretty rare because most of them broke
Beautiful tractor! Very nice work!
Great job Gary!
Hi Gary you did a great job, but no offence, yours is not a 1939 model because it has not the significant details on it from a model build in 1939 up to April 1940. I am a Ford 9N owner, and mine is build in March 1940 serial# 25950 and i have all the details from the 1939 models, without the hood, total in aluminum. A very significant detail is the oil level plug on the right side of the transmission housing and that disappeared at model # 26000.After serial# 26000 the starting button was moved from the dashboard to the gear lever housing and the oil dip stick was moved also from gear lever housing to the rear end housing to the right. But again, your tractor looks great!, and what you did with the engine change is just amazing. All the best!.
Que tipo de motor diesel le adapto a ese tractor 9n Gracias por la atención
