    This is nice information. I recently had to drive from Austin Texas to Abilene Tx to pick up my mother. We are not close and I am an only child. She has dementia. I had no idea it was so bad. The man she had been living with for many years didn't call us or anyone to tell us they were living in filth over the last six months. My mother had a broken shoulder and not one item of clothing that wasn't covered in Sh**. We bought her clothes took her to a doctor how missed the broken shoulder even though we said it was badly bruised. Brought her to my home. Keep in mind she doesn't even remember me or my wife or son. She ended up fighting with us and we had EMS come out. They took her to the hospital and found her shoulder was broken. They then sent her to a home to recover and now she is back with us. Several doctors say she requires 24 hour care. We are doing our best only because I am out of work at the moment. I can't stay out of work or we will lose our house. If I go back to work we can't leave her alone. So we are stuck. None of her sisters seem to care or even reached out. So now we have an appointment with a lawyer because we have no clue out to make all this work. We could not find her atm card so we have no access to any of her money. She can't write or read at this point with the Dementia. She can't function on her own at all. We are hoping the lawyer who specializes in elder care can get us started in the right direction.

      @@treau3131 my goodness, you all have been through a lot. I wish there was an easy solution, but there never is. I'm glad they are at least now in your care! In Colorado, in your situation, one would need to get court appointed guardianship since Mom can no longer say who she would want to have handling her affairs. This takes time, written support from her physician, and legal support. See you are on the right track! Another more affordable solution to home care or assisted living is adult day activity centers. You should also contact your local area agency on aging for more resources! Google: area agency on aging in your county Also look for your local P.A.C.E. provider: Program For All-inclusive Care for Elderly. A Medicaid program. All the best, we are glad to be helpful! Thank you for sharing your story! You will be helping others by doing so and you are also not alone. Countless others face this situation, some aren't able to step in the way you have. You're doing something special.

    I live in Southern Oregon. There are a huge amount of assisted livings here. But few take Medicaid. The really nice ones are private pay. They don't want medicaid residents. I am on Medicaid and have been living in an assisted living for five years. What started as a fairly nice facility is now a wretched place to live But finding another that takes Medicaid whose waiting list isn't a couple years out I do have my own studio apt. There are about 30 facilities in my area. Only 5 accept Medicaid.

    • @MaintainMe
      @MaintainMe 8 місяців тому

      Hello Sherrie, You are absolutely right usually there are only a few communities that will take medicaid. It becomes even more limited if they require a spend down minimum. I wish there were more options for those who are on medicaid and this continues to be an issue in Colorado as well. One thing people can do is get involved in legislation to help where dollars are allocated. If we were to get more reimbursement sent to assisted livings this would open up more options for people. In Colorado the reimbursement for medicaid from the state residents is very low and is not keeping up with the increase labor costs.

    This must vary state to state because in Kansas I think Medicaid only pays long term care for "care homes", not assisted living.

    • @montanagal6958
      @montanagal6958 11 місяців тому

      big difference, assisted livings usually have an increased quality of life, private rooms where you can pay extra for more services nursing homes are where the old, sick people go to die or drug addicts live

    • @MaintainMe
      @MaintainMe 10 місяців тому

      Nursing home level of care typically requires 24/7 medical oversight for example: diabetes with ACHS insulin requirements, COPD with oxygen titration, frequent vital signs requirement, iv therapy and more. This is often a good setting for clients who need two person max assistance with daily living activities or who financially qualify for medicaid. There are alot of differences but these are a few. Please check out our video on this topic!

    • @MaintainMe

      There is no way to apply for assisted living. Most people would go to assisted living before running out of money at least 2 years in advance to meet some of the communities spend down requirement.

    Long term medicaid not the same as medicaid insurance. So at the nursing home I am at now, I receive medicaid and medicare. They take $858 out of my $918 SS money every month. Why is it that they don't care about the shoes and incontinent pads that I need? They don't care about the organic foods I need, even though I am 100% sure that a person needs raw green leafy veggies and fruits mostly to be healthy. This nursing facility seems to want people to be sick. They serve lots of carbohydrates and sugars. There are candy and coke machines available to everyone. If someone smokes they go to their room to tell them when it is time to go outside for a smoke break. How is this nursing?

    I own a home and pension and 66 years old. I may need assistance of a nursing home in the next 10 years. I do not want to lose my home. Don’t want to have a lien put against my house by Medicaid. Can I just buy a long-term care insurance policy that will cover my nursing home expenses? I live in New York. I’d appreciate your feedback thanks

    • @MaintainMe
      @MaintainMe Рік тому

      Typically buying a longterm care insurance policy will not be worth it later in life due to the payout. We find that the longterm care policies that have been paid into for over 20 years are the ones with the highest payout. Its still worth asking a professional in this area as we do not sell these longterm case insurance policies, we just help client activate them when needed. I hope this is helpful.

    When someone been accepted to assisted living, does the person still received social security?

    • @MaintainMe
      @MaintainMe Рік тому

      Thank you for watching! Unless the person is going to assisted living with medicaid yes the person will still receive social security. If someone is going to assisted living with medicaid, Medicaid will use social security to help pay for their new living situation and then the person will be given an allowance. I hope this is helpful!

    🤨🤔💭💡🔆▶ ~ I've been living in a Nursing Home in Mt. An Adult Protective investigator put Me (74 Years young) here due to Family problems. He took Me to the local bank where I had a checking account of a bit over $ 10,000.00 and $ 2, 000.00 in savings. At the bank, He asked them for a cashier's check and wrote it out for a bit over $ 12,000.00 including My savings then gave it to the nursing home where He dropped Me off. It lasted about three and a half months till They got Me on Medicaid. Then started charging Me for all but $ 50.00 from My $ 4550.00 Social Security. I've been searching on the internet and a couple sites say Medicaid only lasts a few months. I've been here since December 2021, so I'm thinking I must be on "Long Term" Medicaid and I can stay indefinitely? Thank You,❕ G-G.

      Medicaid lasts as needed.Medicare is limited.

    • @MaintainMe
      @MaintainMe Рік тому

      Hello, thank you for watching. Medicaid will last as long as needed as long as each year when they request the required documents that these are sent in as requested. The community may have their own agreement with you that states they will continue to care for you once medicaid is in place and at the allowed reimbursement granted through medicaid. I would check if you or your family signed a form spelling out their commitment to that. The $50 is the allowance that medicaid granted you and the remainder is allocated as medicaid states to offset your assisted living rent and care fees. I hope this is helpful, we know how confusing this can be
