Unless you have a lot of liquid capital, it makes absolutely no sense to buy a franchise. All the costs after the initial investment are insane. After paying your employees and other expenses and fees, your monthly take home pay could be equal to working full-time as a fry worker at McDonalds. Correct me if I’m wrong here. This likely applies to retail franchises or grocery stores, which is what I would franchise if I was going that route. I would much rather put the investment cost of 100 to 200k towards buying a condo. That way, I have stability and security for survival and living. Then the monthly bills could easily be taken care of as a full time fry worker at McDonalds. To sum it up, why would you put 200k into a franchise, which has a lot of risk associated with it, when you can make the same amount of money each month as a full time McDonalds worker and put your money towards an investment that carries much lower risk and can give you stability?

Most ppl who want a franchise want to lay down the investment cost and then get it running and then be involved part time/passively. McDonalds/Chic Fila is a full time job lol more than full time more like overtime no life job.

The operator has to float the upfront yr 1 inventory and payroll which is not provided by corporate. That's $200k-$2M. You're not investing in a business. You're buying an income stream like a bond at an equity premium.

Used to work in a store owned by an operator with three stores, and currently work in one with two. Three stores is far too much for an operator, your attention is just far too divided. It’s extremely wise for them to discourage this.

Sorry, but it is a terrible idea to raid your 401K for a franchise down payment. Franchises are notoriously risky investments (if you don't believe this statement you should do some research on the topic). As a successful former owner of a multi-unit franchise business and board member of the owners' association, I can attest to the fact that many investors in franchise businesses lose their life savings. A 401K will grow tax-free for many years rewarding you with the power of compound interest until you need to access the funds when you are retired.

So many people in business say "I learned more on the job than in college". So it makes a lot of sense to ditch school if you want to dive into entrepreneurship early. But I agree, the main benefits of college are experiences and relationships. That helps develop EQ which is a vital skill in business ownership and leadership. Like Tyler, I did the community college thing for a few years. Shout out to Oakton Community College! And also like Ryan I did the public university thing. Shout out to Indiana University! Go Hoosiers! Had a little too much fun there lol

You might think of good food when you think of Chick-fil-A, but for me I think of anti-gay sentimentality since the founder of the company was known to donate to anti-gay organizations. There is evidence of this online. A couple years ago, I was completing an application for employment at a local Chick-fil-A and when I read the Equal Opportunity disclaimer statement, it said how they don't discriminate against the usual things like race, religion, etc., but sexual orientation was not included. Needless to say, I did not finish the application. I refuse to support that company.
