THE WAY IT GOES - Nathan Slate Joseph - a film by Lana Jokel

Nathan Slate Joseph has blurred the boundaries between painting and sculpture throughout his prolific artistic career. He was drawn to a vivid color palette in his early paintings. Later he was drawn to simple forms and urban materials when he witched to creating abstract compositions of galvanized steel. His work is about expansion and contraction; making statements of destruction and reconstr...

I admit I am bit like this guy, thinking of and building crazy things. The part that perplexes me is how someone can be smart enough to engineer and build this rude goldberg machine, yet be completely blind to how incredibly impractical it is to use, in every way compared to a normal bike. As for the speed, it's beyond obvious how much more energy it would take to move this plus a standing rider through the air. I'm sure it's a hoot to ride for 15 minutes. Maybe you can rent them out at some park as a novelty. A recumbent bike was really the solution you wanted. You could of added a hand crank and it would of been reasonable.

When a server serves, does the ball have to have enough pace on the ball to clear the service box after its first bone? Theoretically, if the ball wasn't hit it would bounce twice in the opponents service box due to a lack of pace. I'm playing someone who hits a fast first serve, then hits the weakest second serve that only just goes over and has zero pace on it... so I'm wondering is it classed as illegal if it doesn't have enough pace on it to clear the service box after its first bounce?

Love this. He is dead right about this serve. My 15 yr old son uses this quite a bit. It s a NIGHTMARE to play against, sometimes even when I know he is going to play it given how much spin you can put onto the ball under the right conditions. For adding disguise, trying a cople of overhead serve warm up swings as you collect the ball and walk up for your serve, it enforces the impression you are about to try to hit a big normal overhand serve, persuading them to keep back behind the base line to receive. Also a bit more disguise in the actual serve wind up, I think Kyrgios is probably the best guy to look at for a model for this.

Opponent obviously a rookie with a reaction time of a slow loris under anesthesia. He doesn't begin to run forward until such time when the ball is already crossing the net. Any competent player would move in immediately after noticing the unusual backswing.

Gino ,pretty good. A couple of points.Have to hold the racquet from the very bottom. Next use a estern BH grip.Ball has to be dropped and poc is pretty low. It's good to alternate with an underhand topspin kicker serve. On that one, you toss the ball further in front and jump in with a quick FH windshield wiper motion. Body position is side ways. I taught many of my students these serves beside the regular ones and they had a lot of fun,and quite success avoiding double faults. In fact one of my students played the top county player who got so puzzled by the topspin kicker that kept hitting the return in the net or out !!! Placement can be changed and the speed of ball is quite good the ball bouncing second time way passed the baseline. The twist underhand was best used by a 6 foot 4, student lefty..he aced every player he played . Because 10 years ago I learned to play lefty too, I can serve regular twist serves both hands...and regardless my lefty is less powerful than the right ,the left twist is very difficult to read, mostly if you keep switching the spins...underhand..slice, Hawaiian, topspin slice, flat, and twist lefty or righty. Gino is right it can be applied as a surprise serve. Mackenzie McDonald served at pro level the entire set against a Canadian player and he won the set(was injured)! It's a lot of fun....

We age because of human sin. If humans lived for 150 years in a good body, then we'd be sinning for 150 years. God shortened our lifespans to 120 in the Book Of Genesis. Aging is horrible, and very painful to endure. It's sin that's caused this to happen. I wish we didn't age and die so quickly.

Not only have you failed to provide detailed instructions on HOW to hit this shot, this is generally bad advice for the average club player who normally struggles with developing a good reliable kick 2nd serve. They would be much better off practicing overhead smashes and other shots most never practice. I would only recommend this one for advanced players who already have some mastery of all the rest of the fundamentals. Otherwise this will be largely a waste of time because it is only effective if hit very occasionally and then reliably which for most is an oxymoron.

In every other sport, the use of deception to gain an advantage is not just viewed as acceptable, but admired when it is successful. In basketball there is the no-look pass and in football the mis-direction play or the pump fake. Still, tennis is different. If I won a hard fought match in this way it just wouldn't feel right. I'd have a hard time looking my opponent in the eye and shaking his hand.
