A retired guy and his lovely wife, just trying to make their way in the world with only her wits and his sense of humor to guide them.
My Filipina wife who retired as a technician from the American Tech industry, is the brains of the operation. Myself, a 30-year military retiree (Navy SEAL and Army Special Operations), and retiree from private industry, provides the pithy comments and light banter, to keep things interesting. We live part of the year in San Diego California and the rest of the time in the Philippines.

Hospital Billing in BGC Philippines, Too Good to be True?

Well, it was bound to happen, when you leave home for 5-6 months, a visit to the doctor, for something. I was so unlucky as to get an ear infection and as such had to go over to the local hospital in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Where to my pleasant surprise I was seen and attended to by the most professional and friendly staff imaginable. If you have to go, while in BGC going to St Luke's will...

Master Chief Kaiser, is that you? Thanks for the good tour of BGC. That’s a nice expensive place 💵
@@4WDTour Nope this is (Ret) SGM Collins USA. Thanks for the video compliment!
@ Thank you for your service my Army brother!
@ thank you and same to you as well brother!
Ruled by 4 foreign countries? Really? Instead of only 3 known countries namely Spain, the USA, and then in WW2 by Japan.
@@juzanewbie6194 Please watch the video, Great Britain had the place for two years. After defeating the Spanish.
Love it po ❤!
Thank you! 🤗
Does this mean the Philippine economy is doing better than the USA's?
@@TechiesUnofficial no way, the US could easily fix this, I’ll make this statement based on the American mall I showed in the video. My home state of California and city of San Diego has let this happen and of course the citizens of California have stupidly voted the criminally tolerant, tax loving, illegal encouraging and solar foolish politicians in office, very sad indeed!!
When you’re back in Makati, hope you can visit the Ayala museum, in greenbelt area; to learn more about Philippine history. And of course, your wife will enjoy shopping in Greenbelt/ Landmark malls 😊
I did see that museum; it's near the Greenbelt 3 theater. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll go and check it out!
Great video brother! This is all about corruption.
Politicians get kickbacks from construction projects that are handed out to their close friends, family and/or campaign sponsors. Construction companies then order substandard materials and inflate the expense report for these road projects built using shoddy asphalt that will decay in one of the hundreds of yearly typhoons in the Philippines so they can do this all over again. The politicians won’t do anything to fix the roads until it’s time for reelections. It’s clockwork. They also build shoddy condominiums hoping a hardworking but naive OFW gets suckered into paying an obscene amount of monthly mortgage for a sketchy condo unit. For example, I am from Cebu and I can tell you one company based in Cebu builds tall condominiums and the ratio of the condo units to the elevators doesn’t add up. There are so many units in that tall building but it only has TWO elevators for the people living there so you wait for HOURS before you can use the elevators! This is one of the many reasons why many Filipino actors become local politicians when they age out of showbiz and don’t get movie deals and commercial deals anymore. For example, Robin Padilla! I’m sure Lorena knows his name. At least Manny Pacquiao funds projects with his own money which is why he has to keep boxing at his age! I don’t know how to fix the problems in my motherland but it is nothing new. I strongly believe the Philippines was better off as a member of the U.S. commonwealth. At least there was some sort of oversight and accountability while we maintain our independence. Anyway, thank you for this video! It allowed me to express my frustrations LOL God bless to you and Lorena!
@ wow that was great Ivy! Thanks for speaking your mind, we all can only pray that other Filipinos, here in the PI, stands up and says ‘enough is enough’! I’ve seen the Filipino people really upset one time, during the ‘People’s Revolution ‘ in 1986. They ousted the Marcos family and the day he left folks were partying in the streets. Changes can happen!
It’s so sad but true po, My countrymen and women need to hold their elected officials responsible for starting and completing these road projects you showed. We are the best country in Asia with a proud heritage of‘ beating the odds and surviving the impossible. We deserve better for our people!!
Gavin Newsom wrecked California, and yet he keeps on getting elected, even when recalled.
Trust me when we’re back home we live with that in insanity. We have been trying to vote out that Progressive / Socialist since he set foot in Sacramento California. Unfortunately too many Californians don’t look further than the ‘D’ (Democrat) in front of his name…..
Awesome video Brother! I was at Patong Beach and Bangla Walking street during New Year 2025 countdown! The place was absolutely insane 🎉
The place to be! No place in the Ph that is flood free. Burgos circle has an underground cavity that flushes out any water underground all the way to Manila Bay. Remember now this was a military base. The underground bunker is designed as an escape route of the soldiers during WW2. Also the electricity in BGC is pretty much guaranteed 24/7 because of the call centers that’s all over BGC. America’s top 4 banks that does not operate in PH are here because the entire worldwide operations of Wells Fargo, B of A, Citibank, Chase/Morgan Stanley are here. It can’t afford to shutdown not one minute. Singapore’s Cloud storage is beginning to pile up here. No place in PH that has this infrastructure. The builder that’s started BGC 30 years ago is my buddy. So all the secrets are out! Case close!

@@odesicat94 amen, it can only turn around if its citizens demand it, especially in California.
I enjoyed the video! I believe SM is owned by a Filipino-Chinese family. On another note, I think OFW remittances are fueling the mall culture and the oversupply of condominiums.
@@shibby_travels thank you and I agree with you, those salaries are allowing OFW’s to bring cash back into the Philippine economy in a big way. Just getting the OFW permits to work abroad are expensive and I believe more would do it if they could afford to.
A good, concise, overview.
@@charlesritz6509 thank you
SM Seaside is the only mall in the Philippines that is built to its current size. Other large mall in the Philippines get their present size through a series of expansions through the years. Also, SM Seaside is the only one among the largest malls in the Philippines that is contained in a single structure. Other larger malls such as SM MOA, SM North EDSA and SM Megamall, all in Metro Manila, are composed of multiple buildings with access via street-level walkways and elevated walkways. In fact, SM Seaside is the largest single structure in the Philippines in terms of floor area, at 470,000 square meters or around 47 hectares of indoor space.
@@LeoTheGio thanks for that detail!
And it is the only SM Mall that is not box-typed mall but a circular-shaped mall.
@ absolutely, the design is very unique.
You should try to visit Alegria and Badian Canyoneering unto Kawasan Falls, the newly built TOPS observation deck in Busay Cebu City, 5 star premium Nustar Resort and Casino in Kawit island Cebu City and if you are going to BGC Taguig City visit American Cemetery, check it

Don't you know that whale sharks are regularly spotted all over Cebu waters? They were spotted often around Mactan Islands, Malapascua Island, Pescador Island (off Moalboal), Dalaguete, Alcoy, Liloan, etc.
@@lionhearted1969 thanks, and given the short period of time I was on Cebu I didn’t know that fact. Thanks again
Great educational video!
@@shibby_travels thanks Ivy, I enjoyed your evening discussion of the US - Phil history. Read Col Fredrick Funston’s biography, he was the US Army officer who captured President Aguinaldo. His capture was in large part due to Filipino locals . Having personally operated with the AFP in Luzon chasing the NPA and later Abu Sayyaf in Mindanao. As good as we thought we were as military soldiers a large part of our success was due to the local Filipinos who sided with the ‘Kano’s’ and assisted in their capture.
@ Oh good to know! Will look it up!
As much as we revere President Aquinaldo, he was given up by the local people of Zamboanga. Much like the locals helped us find the NPA and later the guerrila fighters in Mindanao.
@ if you really like Philippine WWII history read, ‘Rampage’ by James Scott, very cheap used on Amazon.
@@Ncollins99 Yes, that’s on my reading list!
As usual awesome video po, can’t wait to see them myself!! ❤
@@wahinehine as always thank ya ate!
people in the US ar shopping moe online, malls are dying.
@@mduarte1972 sad but true
The problem in American Malls are the uncontrolled crimes, shop lifters cant be arrested that causing bussiness owners a big problem they are loosing a lot of money thats why its better to close than loose more investment not like in the Philippines they have security everywhere to arrest the culprit and turn over to the police later also checking all people going inside to make sure no deadly weapons can bring inside the Mall areas..😅
Great observations and spot on! What people in my state of California fail to grasp is that the 'presence' of a serious security force be it private guards, local law enforcement, etc. enhances shoppers' ability to enjoy the mall experience. Not having to look over your shoulder, as a shopper or 'profile' certain shoppers who look sketchy, as a store owner, go a long way to drawing in customers.
Beautiful video. I agree with your appreciation of the 996. I own a 2001 996. I wonder how the potential of a 996 can be utilised or enjoyed on the roads of California. I live in Germany. Full throttle.
@@pidderlung5160 yea I feel very fortunate that California has so much open roadway. It does make cycling more enjoyable for sure. Thanks for the comment!
Very pretty po!
One reason here is the weather here...People flock in malls because of heat outside and Malls right here become a place to visit to unwind and just walk around but of course that can't be done during the weekends because you will get stress out with so many people in the malls here....weekdays in the morning is just perfect to go to the malls....south Carolina where my aunt lives she said their malls are too small and not as good as here in manila, when they visit here in Manila....
Same in downtown San Francisco, CA. Westfield Mall closed, Macys Union Square is closing in 2025. Many shops in downtown SF have been boarded up due to crimes, homeless people incamp in the city. The blight of the city is due to poor city management. Thank God the incumbent Mayor has been voted out in the last November 2024 Election. She has done nothing. She likes to talk the talk not walk the talk.
@@alroberts193 excellent analysis my friend! Sad to see such a beautiful city in that state.

The decline in American investments, government corruption the last 15 years poor leadership , on line shopping take over. Schools declining k-12. Culture change, etc.i truly hope America will recover and rise again in the next few years with a new administration .
Well said my friend.
I remember when Ontario Mills was built in '96 since I lived a few miles from there. It was so vibrant but before I headed back to the Philippines in 2006, it was already quiet and seemed to be dying. The only place well alive was D&B arcade/resto. Malls in the Philippines last for a very long time even if new ones are built. There's suppose to be a Dave & Busters soon to open here.

My pleasure po, what’s your favorite part of Luzon?
Nice! My epic coastal short video (Caunayan Point) from Pagudpud is very close to the historic USS Stinger landing site memorial on WW2 (found on Google maps). There was even a wedding pictorial going on at the middle of the viewpoint when I went there. One of the beaches further north was being renovated as a Balikatan site and they had a big logo of the USMC's Globe and Anchor on it. I wanted to linger for a bit to see if there were actual Marines there but something tells me their COs won't like that at all lol
Did the VA help with the expenses? A US expat vet buddy of mine got a major shoulder surgery in Medical City done by VA-certified local doctors and he even took culinary classes here on the VA's dime. He has 100% disability rating and an Iraq vet. This was right before C***d but it got watered down sometime during the lockdowns.
@@jportega9404 great question! So as a retired and disabled US vet, in the VA system I checked with my local US VA before departing the states. They informed me that if I received any medical services overseas, that related to my current disabilities, I could file online for reimbursement. I am also a retiree Tricare guy and they said the same. So I’ll probably just use my Tricare.
New sub. La Union has a decent community of American vets and they even have a VFW office there. They do hash runs every weekend.
