Hi! We’re Van Alen Institute. We’re named after William Van Alen, the Brooklyn-born architect of the Chrysler Building. Founded in 1894, we spent more than a century providing free design education to architects in NYC and across the US.
Today, we make it easier for communities to shape the places where they live. To achieve this, we create projects that connect residents, architects, and city leaders. From short-term public installations to long-term city planning, our work builds trust and fosters lasting relationships.

Albany Hive | Community-led redesign of a public alley in Albany, NY
Learn more: www.vanalen.org/project/albany-hive/
Albany Hive (“the Hive”) is an uplifting new shared space on a city-owned alley at Quail St and 1st St in the city’s West Hill neighborhood. Co-designed with West Hill residents, the Hive reflects the alley’s function as a community hub, buzzing with locally-led activities. Six beehive-inspired sculptures in vibrant blue and yellow will include built-in seating elements and polycarbonate panels to host community-made artwork. They’re paired with new planters and swales that help absorb rainwater and an enhanced pathway with improved lighting, access, and drainage.
Albany Hive is a collaboration between 518 SNUG, Albany & Troy Lions Club, Albany Victory Gardens, Bridge Tha Gap, the City of Albany, Grateful Villages, Rensselaer School of Architecture, Stantec, The Urban Conga, and Van Alen Institute.
The project is supported, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts “Our Town” program, which supports activities that integrate arts, culture, and design into local efforts that strengthen communities over the long term. Additional support was provided by the Albany Community Development Agency, America Walks Grant, the Bender Family Foundation and the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Initial project planning was done in partnership with the Mayors’ Institute on City Design.
Film by YouthFX, a national organization based in the South End of Albany, NY that primarily works with young people who have been historically underserved and in need of meaningful opportunities for training and engagement in new digital media technology. Learn more at www.youthfx.org.

this woman is pure evil
I understand the Coldness by my god quote now.
Complete drivel.
That was cool
Hot and cold are incommensurate conjugates - the one cannot exist without the other. Surely the cold rationalists must eventually concede that life without warmth is not worth living. Whether or not this leads to a gesture of mercy relies entirely on the extent to which the cold have handed their agency over to their machines.
I don’t think Land disagrees. Neo-reaction doesn’t forget the past, it throttles it into the future.
Hot collectivists are critiqued by the rationalists due to hot collectivities being on the wheel of history, as a result its making us “sick”. The heat is going to fail to keep the cold in due to its incompetence hence a critique of hot collectivists and a turn to the cold collectives. It’s the imposition of heat as autonomous(hot collectivists) that is leading us into a sauna.
@@fourarmklocknocker3556 What do you mean by "throttles"??
Brilliant!
That was a wonderful explanation of his day. It must have been an unbelievable experience. But that poor tiger. I only vaguely remember this story from the news.

This guy just discovered introverts and extroverts and thought it discredited the whole of the 20th century lmao
this comment has been cringe for two years now, the time to delete it is well past due.
You might want to look up when humans are all gone and the animals take over the cities .
Guy is disgusting to listen to.
Because of sounds he make?
Berkay Ozturk yes. He’s tweeking so hard he can’t help it. It’s repulsive

Thank you for this film, it shows how arbitrary and how erroneous geo-political lines are, we have one world, we are one people, we are all the same despite the historical and continuing efforts to portray us as different, we're all humans...how difficult it is to see the beauty on that? This film shows exactly that, and I'm so grateful to everyone involved, gracias!
I'll just walk around it -- thanks Trump 🇲🇽 Make America Brown Again 🇲🇽 🇲🇽🚶♂️🚶♀️🚶♂️🚶♀️🚶♂️🚶♀️🚶♂️🚶♀️🚶♀️🚶♂️🚶♀️🇲🇽
The monies people are paid are re-circulated right back into the economy. We need a maximum wage. Google and the internet narrow the difference in knowledge and should also narrow the gap in wages and wealth.
Nick land is incredible as always
