I thought ni-ki said in one interview or skit i think, that in japan they don't use formal language, and that's why he's not used to it before. And i think it's also why he said in one vlive he's comfortable with jake because they treat each other like the same age because they are both foreigners that use informal language?? I think honorifics are the similarities they have in this context.

Like on wiki(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Japanese_and_Korean) it saids about Korea and Japan, "Both languages have similar elaborate, multilevel systems of honorifics” "They are cited as the two most elaborate honorific systems, perhaps unrivaled by any other languages.” Maybe he said in Japan formal language isn’t used, cuz in Japan’s grading system Jungwon would be in the same grade as him, so if they were in Japan, he would be speaking to Junwon informally. But K wouldn’t be in the same grade even in Japan.

Japanese has formal language but not strict as in korean language. so if you have close older friends, you can use casual language. it’s more casual relationship between older/younger people. and most of korean people use formal language for even their own parents, but japanese people doesn’t use a formal language for family.

In Japan you use formal language with strangers or acquaintances, teachers, seniors, really older people. Not with friends or siblings or family. Even if friends are older like in this case it’s rare to see formal language being used. Japan is a little more casual than korea, just a little bit.
