FROM LAST TO FIRST | Scurlogue Champ's Best Finishes
Scurlogue Champ would be renowned for one of the strongest finishes ever seen over long-distance racing. The crowds would adore him and could not believe how he could win his races from being so far behind.
Scurlogue Champ is a famous racing greyhound from the 1980s. Along with Mick the Miller and Ballyregan Bob he is arguably one of the greatest three hounds that ever raced in Britain.
"Whenever he ran, you'd be forced to park and walk a long way away from the track. Nobody minded. He drew people from all over Britain, and amazed them. He was the ultimate showman."
Early Life:
Scurlogue Champ was a black dog whelped in July 1982 by Sand Man, out of Old Rip. He was bred by Francis Kent from Levittstown, County Wexford and was one of a litter of six dogs and two bitches. He moved to John Byrne on a farm where he received his name before being sold to Jim Sutton, who reared him.
After several races in Ireland he was put up for sale at the May 1984 Shelbourne Park sales. Owner/trainer Ken Peckham took him to England, after agreeing a price for £1,700, with Irish trainer Brendan Matthews who had won the sales bidding at 1500 guineas.
Was amazed at the lack of the tribute / montage / documentary videos there are on Scurlogue Champ on UA-cam so decided to put this together.
Races featured in order:

Just a quick edit using some of the best quality clips of Ronaldinho I could find. Watch in 720p. Enjoy. Something a a bit different to what i usually edit, but I have always wanted to try something like this, so I may private this in the future depending on the response it gets I got the idea for this edit from watching a BBC promo on Usain Bolt, I would link a video of it and give the person ...

Not strong finishers. Greyhounds always run flat out and Scurlogue was often last because it was a relatively slow greyhound over 1 lap. When greyhounds tire they slow dramatically, Scurlogue, for some freakish reason, tired much later and maintained its speed longer than other greyhounds, That is what gives the illusion of acceleration. In reality all of the dogs are slowing it is just that Scurlogue slowed less and later than the other dogs. Great spectacle though.
Super greyhound one of the best
he wasn't a right yolk!!! hahaha
My favourite dog of all time. Bob may have won 36 consecutive races, but no one entertained like the Champ.
What a champ! We train greyhounds, and l have never seen anything like that! I hope his in dog heaven!
Privileged to have watched Westpark Mustard, Ballyreagan Bob & Scurlogue Champ we saluted you thanks for all the amazing nights
What a dog! Amazing !
yes but the champ wouldn't beat desert orchid over 3miles at kempton.
that middle pace and the way he took the 2nd last bend at full pace is the most impressive thing for me!
Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
6 years on and the gbgb still doing zero to help the sport. In fact they hinder it.
A set of horrible individuals who need justice taken to them and its coming
4:58 no
Incredible dog, my favourite ever
A great watch, was at Ramsgate on the nt he ran, doubt we'll see another like the 'Champ' and footage shows how far the sport has declined over years with most of the tracks now gone and hardly any people going, realise a diff time now even so do miss them nights at the track.
He deserves a “Ballon d’Og” 🦴 😂
Deserves so much more:)
I think this Greyhound is deliberately letting the other dogs waste away in the first lap, only to suddenly accelerate 15 km/h faster than the other dogs, so that the second lap is no problem for him to win the race.
I've had 3 greyhounds now, and I can say without hesitation that the worst thing you could do to one is to NOT let it race. These are four-legged Ferraris, and they should not be conscripted to a life in traffic stuck behind soccer moms. Let them race! Sure, any human pursuit can be done badly, but God, these dogs are born to run.
Thankyou for a honest opinion
Danmmmm goosebumps
Betfair layers would be glad they weren't in operation when Scurlogue was running...
Go on my old cocker, I bet the bookies took a hammering ❤️
What the song please
That was impressive he had to check his ran at the 3rd last bend to wait for the 5 dog to give him room wow great dog reminds me of westmead hawk
He was stuck in first gear when he found second the turbo kicked in and he went like the wind, unbelievable just wow
Guerreiroooooooooo Guerreiroooooooooooooo
There was a dog at Lincoln Greyhound Park by the name of subliner who did the same thing as this dog has been doing from last to first every time. And I was there just about every time to lay down my bet on this dog. At last count SUBLINER had won 18 straight races. Then I got laid up and could not go and put my bet on subliner so I don't know if he extended the 18th straight wins even further and amazing Greyhound to say the least all black and what a closure!
He was beating top class open race dogs such as rosewood girl blue ink bad decision etc he must have broken more track records than any other greyhound in history and his wins to runs % was incredible what a privilage i had to watch this great dog run
What happened At Peterborough. Did he get injured
What a blistering turn of foot Scurlogue had...just had an extra gear and cruised through the field....You just have to have a smile on your face and a tear in your eye when you watch these breath-taking performances....I was at Ramsgate...when he won...awesome..
The Secretariat of dogs
That's a smart do who knew what he was there to do. Always knew the line pretty inspiring stuff your never down and out 🍀✊🏻
If this dog doesn't teach you a life lesson than I don't know what will ??
Wow greatest champ scurlouge champ amazing greyhound what a champion 👏 there's the champ look at the speed
Io
I worked at Clapton Stadium for Jimmy Jowett in the 1960's and loved it, we had great dogs like Lucky Hi There who won 16 in a row. as well as the Tv trophy and the St Leger so I can see the greatness in this fabulous greyhound, thanks for sharing this...
Well said mate..follow Australian racing it's the benchmark..we should have a world series the best greyhound
Benchmark in 8 dogs yes, what Aussies don't know is the UK have handicap and hurdle races which actually differ from the norm.
@@havanadaurcy1321 never seen a hurdle race for greyhounds..they wouldn't allow hurdle race's here due to injuries and welfare to the dog's..people are trying to banned greyhound racing in Australia 🇦🇺
My great grandad and nan where scurlogues owners they have lots of trophies in their house
I watched this legend at White city early in his journey, not knowing I was witnessing the greatest sporting events of my life, what with Ballyregan Bob also in those days,it was the halcyon time for dog racing. This fella came from a mile away, and Bob from the front.Never to be forgotten the legend CHAMP and Superstar BOB.XX
Went to the greyhound racing at White City once with the family when I was a kid in 1974. I fondly remember watching a few of Scurlogue Champ's races on telly (ITV used to show them sometimes late on midweek evenings,I think - perhaps they were part of their Midweek Sport Special programme).
What a gallop in last 20 seconds
One of the Greatest dogs to grace the track... A true icon and Legend of Greyhound racing
What an amazing dog
Now that was a dog, just knowing when to hit the go button.
“He’s moving like a tremendous machine”
I only heard about scurlogue champ a few months ago what a dog he was like a cheetah
When I feel down I just need to watch this awesome scurlogue video to get me back on fire. Thanks Scurlogue for all what you have done for this sport.
And me at 82
Wonderful dog very many happy memories
I’m doing that right now
Awesome compilation. So many dog tracks closing down. Miss Portsmouth on a Friday night.
This is unreal
Legend
I’m still a massive fan What a CHAMPION 🐈
Dog racing needs to be better regulated these days or it will die
