Environmental Change Institute
United Kingdom
Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute (ECI) was established in 1991 'to organize and promote interdisciplinary research on the nature, causes and impact of environmental change and to contribute to the development of management strategies for coping with future environmental change'.
Over the last 25 years the ECI have developed an international track record for research in climate, ecosystems and energy and a growing expertise in the fields of food and water. We respond to the challenges in these areas through an interdisciplinary and integrated programme of understanding processes of change; exploring sustainable solutions; and influencing change through education and partnership.

How do we promote a healthier diet which has a lower environmental impact and also enhances local and national enterprise? By starting with the meal and working backwards through the supply chain to the grower, BeanMeals research will be based on a ‘fork-to-farm’ concept - a reversal of the usual production-led ‘farm-to-fork’ model.
Access Failure: Explaining Climate-Related Migration in the Sahel
Speaker: Professor Jesse Ribot, School of International Service (SIS), American University. This talk examines ostensibly climate-related migration in the Sahel as a case of "access failure". It argues that a lens of access helps reveal the political-economic and institutional production of precarity that enables climate events to push people into crisis. For more information on the Environment...

I'm 3 minutes in and you lost me already. When will we start impacting the planet with our industrial activity ? Are you serious ?
Economy is the enemy, this is a fact, as economy as we know are mader to know it, exist outside the laws of nature in a vacuum..It's called Capitalism laissez faire ; freedom!
Neat and nice but wrong 😂
An extremely valuable speech sadly devliered in a very dry and mechanical way. The public needs to have an appreciation of this material but good communication is absolutely vital.
I love you 😍 … daughter Mutternatur
Thank you for illuminating Ms. Josephine Baker in a rare light of her many ways of social contribution.
I'm sure in the morning I will feel the symptoms of whiplash in my neck due to my consistent nodding in agreement! =^.^=
I don't feel any better having watched this ... in fact after listening too them him -n- haw nervously while skipping over "all" the most important facts , this so called conspiracy of a NWO cant be any clearer . Lots of time scheming, billions of dollars spent moving the chess pieces just right so as to implement what exactly ? World wide communism implemented under the sick guise of climate change using threats and regulations to get what they wanrt. Unatrually disturbing cizilizatiion and destroying countries , ruining cultures and confusing /brain washing the masses ! knowing the earth was going into a climate change naturally from studying it's patterns , Notice our sun isn't yellow and warm anymore ? Pole shifts are happening, the sky does not look right . It's not that people don't agree we need to clean up our act , especially Japan's leaking disaster into our ocean , plastic everywhere in it . Nonstop fishing and gas ran objects or drilling and putting cables everywhere. Has anyone studied if it's what's causing sea life to beach in the thousands dead everywhere ? Starfish are ripping off there limbs or dissolving all together here in Washington. Most of the world has known the planet needs cleaning up . We are all at fault and it's generations of civilisation mistakes , greed and war . What we don't trust is more laws , tax and restrictions for us but the same select few will keep on doing what ya"all do . The world is and has been watching , but it's nice learning who is behind it 😆
She is still not mentioning the elephant in the room, and that is the market itself. She is of course dancing around the subject like most marketeconomists do, and I never heard anyone mainstream that has come so close of talking about the main issue so far, but still she seems to think that as long as we do things right on the market, encounting for all the aspects in our society that isnt valued at the moment monetarily through GDP, things will be somewhat fine. And of course, if we did all the things she mentions in some miraculous fashion things would certainly become better probably, but its at the same time contradictary to how things work according to the so called free market and the economic man. How can we make a economic model based on our current system that makes our current problems marketable enough for companies to wanna sell it? War sells, human trafficing sells, medicin patents sell, drugs sell. Saving humanity sells? Look instead up: ua-cam.com/video/K9FDIne7M9o/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/We4v9fmMrxA/v-deo.html to get into the actuall issues of our economic system and our curret state of affairs in our society that creates most if not all of the giant problems we are facing today
I once did an economics module and found it so pathetic and unbelievable I have since told everybody to ignore economists, they haven't a clue. Kate is inspiring.
Wow Man, wonder what made you feel so smart as to ignore hundreds of years of human progress in this subject.
This is exceptionally fascinating. This data capture process will likely be pivotal in understanding epiphyte colonisation patterns and aerial ecological responsiveness. Thank you for sharing.
Helped, Tqsmch mam 😍
Hi Kate, are you familiar with Allan Savory, Hunter Lovins and David Korton? Seems like you would be , if not I hope you connect with them soon. Thank you for What you're doing!!
Thank you. We need more people like Kate, Vandana Shiva, and others. Very inspiring.

Why? please explain yourself

You’re already half way to understanding global warming by knowing that when there is sufficient carbon dioxide in the atmosphere the greenhouse effect able to keep the planet from freezing over (Snowball Earth). The “rest of the story” (to coin a phrase that Paul Harvey popularized) is that when there’s too much CO2, then global temperatures move too far in the opposite direction. Could you rename the videos to include numbering to show the order of the videos, along with a link to the agenda in the description? Numbering will help those of us who were there and want to refresh our memories. Agenda will help new folks go deeper into the info. If a student had time to view and add to the description timestamps for each speaker coming on that would be amazing. So much important info was shared...would love to see it reach a wider audience!

Giant broccoli.
It would be nice to hear narration.

She does not “explain” anything. She only repeats wrong claims!
In my understanding she gives a very brief but well conceptualized overview of a very complex methodology and subject matter.
Except she's not

That’s a fascinating point of view. I wonder if you read the full study before arriving at that conclusion.
I just loved it :)
We are
Both extinction and speciation are going gsngbusters now. We need to pull as much of life through this crisis as we can, especially the larger divisions, genera, families, orders etc. At the same time we must not hate the newcomers. We need to embrace biophilia on both ends.
Thanks for putting this up, and together in the first place; I was starting to go over the existential edge over this tonight and had to look up what the impact was going to be so my imagination would stop with the "Entire planet will be on fire" scenarios... Huge challenges ahead; we are going to have to put aside all our ideological squabbling to fix this.
Very very interesting. Thanks Kate for being a voice with so much passion and strength. I think the Doughnut Economy works very much in alignment with Cradle to Cradle Design. All comes down to the action. Lot's of beautiful philosophies and ideas, and now we must encourage many more think tanks in order to find a way to infect these into the system, or a way to rewrite them entirely. I agree that building and 'encouraging this language' helps a LOT.
ohne aahhhs und mmmhhhs erläutert!!! Stark!!!
Kate's speech is a pleasure to the soul
A great call to action! Would be also good to see as much enthusiasm directed to action on rethinking, joining up and enacting green policy. This should surely be central to green politics but instead there seems to be a widespread retreat from any new policy ideas. (Eg, stopping fracking is of course the right thing to , but this relies totally on policy advances such as circular economics and environmental risk liability - which get consistently omitted from debate.) So much more is possible with green policy, there is no need to reference only the oldest pieces of policy. I agree with Caroline that the Age of Stupid movie raises an important challenge to modern herd-thinking - my paper with proposed answers was published in the same year as the film, www.researchgate.net/publication/225194337_Seven_Policy_Switches_for_Global_Security
14. This Message says that the Protestant, evangelical churches, including the so-called revealed or restored churches and the missions and ministries are the image of the beast that is the Catholicism and have received its mark, its spirit that they call "holy spirit". Even if they speak in tongues, baptise in the Name of Jesus Christ, resuscitate the dead and preach the whole Bible, the spirits that animate them and which they call “holy spirit” are the spirit of python, the spirit of divination. This Message says that a baptism for restitution is necessary for all the inhabitants of the earth. www.philippekacou.org

Important to view in regard to upcoming 1.5 draft ..
A simple yet powerful truth. The polluter pays principle applies to climate change as well.
It would be the worst travesty ever if we can't prevent global warming worse than 1.5C.
What shame, can't see the charts presented.
Excellent. Tells the story - asks us why we don't live the life we feel we ought to live. Enjoyed this enormously...and I hope it works for us too.
