Приєднався 26 тра 2020
READING DUNE is a Video Podcast where we read DUNE - chapter by chapter and discuss what is happening in the story. Arthur C. Clarke described Dune as "unique" and wrote, "I know nothing comparable to it except Lord of the Rings." The Louisville Times wrote, "Herbert's creation of this universe, with its intricate development and analysis of ecology, religion, politics, and philosophy, remains one of the supreme and seminal achievements In science fiction."
Together, Evan (who has not read Dune at all,) & Caleb (who has read the whole series through a couple of times) will journey into where the SPICE MUST FLOW.

CHAPTER 2 - The Harkonnen's Plans Within Plans
Lady Fenring's first name is Margot (the T is silent, just like Pardot). We learned her name in the weirding room chapter toward the beginning; she was the one who left the note for Jessica under the leaf.
Thank you guys for creating this podcast. I read Dune last year reading a chaptor the going for a run while listening to you guys, it really helped reflect on each chapter. Massiah I am behind on the podcast because it was so short I had to just smash through it. Now catching up with the podcast after either way of experiencing the podcast was fantastic. Stay spicey!
You guys. Jamis was right. He's not the bad guy in any way. He's the only one here who is right. Paul is not the Mahdi; nobody is. It's an implanted prophecy. Paul and Jessica are entirely full of shit, Stilgar and the rest of the troop are falling for it, and Jamis is the only one who sees it.
Any plans on making a Children of dune read along?
A valuable lesson from Dune and real life is to never underestimate your opponent, a mistake the Baron made.
Yueh, the accelerationist. I love how in this book every plot turn feels like it could have so easily been prevented if things had gone just a _little_ different. Tragic but believable.
Guys. If the palm trees burn, they won't be watered anymore. That _saves_ water. Burning them isn't an insult to the natives; it's making room on the planet for a hundred people. How are you coming to the opposite conclusion? Am I insane??
It IS an insult in the movie, where it's changed it so the trees are sacred.
Jessica: you don't have to fight over me Soldiers: well now I'm doing it (Penguin with its arms folded)
I've been reading the book for the first time with you guys. I've been listening on spotify, and I wanted to visit you guys and show my appreciation on the youtube side even though im years late.
"that's why Duncan keeps coming back" lol
The "other", I'm pretty sure, just refers to the fact that the Lisan al Ghaib prophecy contains two people: the Mahdi, and his Bene Gesserit mother. So in a sense they are both "the one" depending on context. Mapes refers to Jessica as "the one," referring to Jessica being the prophesied mother of the Mahdi, and other times Paul is referred to as the one.
I love this scene with Mapes in the movie. They lift several lines of dialog right from it. If you look closely you can see how Jessica is startled when Mapes starts crying out. It's not explained in the movie, but it's because she's trying to say "maker of death" and Mapes interruptus her. It's really subtle.
AWESOME
I’ve been reading Dune chapter by chapter with you guys in your podcast; and have been wondering from the very beginning how you guys reacted to the trailers as they came out. Let me just say that I absolutely loved this video and the one with the longer trailer. It was awesome to see your faces and feel the emotional ride you guys went through. Makes me want to watch the movies once more. Love your podcast. Keep going! 👍🏼
1:31 I know this is 3 years too late, but how about "Dune in next time", lol.
I’m glad someone’s still listening this year.
Dune series had some weird stuff the characters say.
Bene Gesserit: ninja space nuns who fuck.
36:20
I enjoyed listening while reading this book for the first time. Now I'll reread Dune with your podcast!
I forgot, does Duncan find out Jessica wasn't the traitor before he died in Dune? Because if he didn't, and Hayt regains his memories as Duncan, the fact that Jessica is the baron's daughter would cement it completely.
Will you guys do a Children of Dune podcast? Please, I need it.
I'm a first time reader and I'm loving it so far I'm a little late to the game loving the podcast 😁
I'm late, but a beach with no ocean is just called a desert.
Denis Villeneuve, hans Zimmer, greg Fraiser and all these wonderfully actors are written the history of the cinema with Dune (1+2).
Question! Wouldn't Paul know that Edric is blocking his ocular vision and confront him for it?
Had to watch you all. This episode is not on my Spotify. You all are not what I pictured 😂 #UnexpectedSurprise #StillEnjoyingTheShow
Hitler: *kills six million people* Stilgar: those are rookie numbers
18:28 "... how much?" // Yes. 😵💫
@caleb read children of dune!!!
I love you guys, I really hope you come back for Children of Dune. But one small note, when you’re talking and between sentences and you go to wet your lips move away from the mic.
do u think that seeing the worm and its open mouth got him MORE high that’s why he had that moment, just spice blowing at him while he analyzes the worm
Guild-splaining?
Paul: I'm playing both sides, so I always come out on top.
Once again, a big thanks for making this a great experience! Will pickup the next book once you guys run it back again. Looking forward to the announcement and joining live for once.
Where have you guys been?! I want to read Children of Dune with you!
Can you please name the intro music ? Thank in advance! Great podcast guys!
Thank you for including a christian fascist "news" video into your own podcast for indication to me that I'm not welcome on your podcast! Very informative!
Bye
Hope you come back. To at least talk about the film...and for a children of the dune overview.
Will you guys come back for children of dune?😢
I am so glad i found this. I just started reading. I wanted some sort of companion guide. This is perfect.
Ok so I recently watched Dune part 2 (like most people tbh) and I had never seen part 1 so I watched both back to back and instantly fell in love so I went and finished the first book and here I am and you guys have been helping me so much this chapter in particular was a little confusing to me but thank you so much for the help and explanations you guys gave!
It was awesome, thank you guys I really liked this experience
I read Dune in 2020 before I knew there will be a movie and now after I saw the second part of the movie Dune, I listen to you guys (on spotify) to revise the details in the book, so I can continue with the second book. It's great how you manage to put everything in perspective and have insights on the important stuff! And you're fun and have amazing energy <3
Guys will you continue the podcast?
Haven’t finished the book yet but so far this is my “favorite” chapter. I use quotes cause it’s a long drawn out death and super depressing but I feel like it’s packed with information. Totally missed where it explains how Spice and oxygen was created lol. I also thought the whole time he was gonna get eaten to death by birds 😂. Anxiety was on 10. Love the pod guys. Sorry to hear about the copyright issue. Total BS. Does that mean no pod for Children of Dune?
Hey guys. I like this format. I listen to you guys when working in garden for hours. I have a suggestion. Your videos don't make clear which book is the video about. Either add the book name in the title or the Thumbnail. I would suggest you do it in the Title. Makes searching easy.
Evan kind of looks like a certain edgy underground rapper from my home country, not gonna say his name though. :)
Thank u for making this podcast. I don't have time to read, so I listen to you guys while making my knitting lol.
Sorry I can't do it, the screaming and ridiculousness is just too much. I've been reading Messiah for weeks now and I couldn't find the copy that I'm reading on UA-cam so I logged on to this chapter. My humble advice is more analysis less yelling
With zero religious background I read the cryptic note as “ we strike by night leaving a pillar of fire and by morning nothing will be left but a pillar of smoke” but now that u guys explain the religious context behind that it makes a bit more sense
