The 4 Levels of Awareness
The 4 Levels of Awareness in Protection
In the field of protection, whether it's self-protection, third-party protection, or asset protection, maintaining a high level of awareness is crucial.
Awareness can be broken down into four key levels: Personal Awareness, Environmental Awareness, Situational Awareness, and Behavioural Awareness.
Each plays a vital role in ensuring safety and security.
1. Personal Awareness
Definition: Personal awareness is the understanding of one’s own physical and emotional state, capabilities, and limitations.
Importance in Protection:
Self-Assessment: Knowing your strengths and weaknesses allows you to respond more effectively to threats.
Health and Readiness: Being aware of your physical condition ensures that you are always ready to act if needed.
Emotional Control: Recognizing and managing your emotions helps maintain calmness and clarity under stress.
Application:
Regularly assess your fitness and readiness.
Practice stress management techniques.
Stay conscious of your emotional responses in various situations.
2. Environmental Awareness
Definition: Environmental awareness involves understanding and recognizing the physical environment around you.
Importance in Protection:
Hazard Identification: Spotting potential dangers or obstacles in your surroundings.
Escape Routes: Knowing the layout of the area to find exits or safe spots quickly.
Resource Utilization: Identifying objects in the environment that can be used for defense or assistance.
Application:
Continuously scan your surroundings.
Memorize the layout of frequently visited places.
Stay alert to changes in the environment.
3. Situational Awareness
Definition: Situational awareness is the ability to identify, process, and comprehend information about what is happening around you.
Importance in Protection:
Threat Recognition: Detecting and understanding potential threats as they develop.
Decision Making: Making informed decisions based on the current situation.
Response Timing: Reacting swiftly and appropriately to dynamic situations.
Application:
Practice the OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) methodology.
Stay present and avoid distractions.
Regularly update your mental picture of the situation.
4. Behavioural Awareness
Definition: Behavioural awareness involves understanding the behavior of others, including recognizing body language, intentions, and emotional states.
Importance in Protection:
Predictive Insight: Anticipating actions based on observed behavior.
Conflict Avoidance: Identifying and defusing potential conflicts before they escalate.
Interaction Control: Managing and influencing the behavior of others to ensure safety.
Application:
Study and practice reading body language.
Develop skills in negotiation and de-escalation.
Remain observant of the behavior of those around you.
Maintaining these four levels of awareness is essential in all forms of protection.
Keep training hard!

Done this today at the gym done this sort of milling for 10 secconds 5 times. And I can tell you it a lot harder then I looks. Most punchs are mostly deflected with 4 arms flying at each other. If your new to combat sports and your worried about sparring or your fight, I'd deffinatly add this into training. Makes your mind face the fire lot more 👍

Hey Julien. I have a small doubt. Do you think Cover, Crash and counter or 3Cs can work really well in MMA or UFC Fights? Because it happens a lot of times that fighters throw a barrage of puches when their opponent is against the cage or they have a strong desire to end the fight. I am sure you have seen vids like this. So you think 3Cs can work effectively in those situations? Thanks

    • @AdrenalineCombatives
      @AdrenalineCombatives 9 місяців тому

I think that a lot of different factors come into play, it all depends on the situation, the environment, the person you are facing etc. Could the 3 C's work in a real situation yes absolutely! Would it work every single time? No nothing does! Could it work in an MMA fight? Yes the same principle of Cover / Crash / Counter are very successfully applied in MMA, Boxing and Muay Thai so the principle is more than valid! Should you rely on it all the time? Depends how well you train it if you ask me. 🙏
