Prince Harry Is Not A Victim. (SPARE Book Review)
Переглядів 12 тис.2 роки тому
God, there is just so much to say about this book. What I'll leave here is the constant thought I had while turning the pages of Spare, and that is "Why did no one tell him that publishing this was a terrible idea?" If Prince Harry was surrounded by people who loved and cared about him, they would have never let this be released into the world. The Prince comes off as bratty, pompous in places,...

    Never complain, never explain is good advice. The media will always twist the truth. Once you open your mouth. Sometimes, your stupidity will show. Case in point, the interview with Andrew. It made him look bad.

      I have to ask - why feel the need to comment this when I can't change my voice? If you don't like how I sound that is completely fine (you are entitled to your own opinion), but to then comment seems a tad unnecessary ...

      @EricaStevenson you can indeed work on your voice and enunciate better. It would not just get you more views but will make you more seductive in personal life too. I felt the need to comment because it's an open comment section.

    I love how positive your whole review is! Honestly I experienced some of your points the opposite way. I am also a fan of the hunger games but I felt like the inclusion of the thrope did it more harm than good, it could not do it as well, but it did not try to do it differently (which I think mythological retellings do). On the other hand I quite enjoy the dialogue. Characters that feel real are great, but I sometimes just want to read a book where all the fialogue feels like the things you realize you could have said in a discussion when you're thinking about it years later in the shower. It's just a satisfying unrealistic kind of perfect. It was in fact supposed to be an enemies to lovers, though I don't think it achieves it. The second one does better tho! Ive heard Lauren Roberts is quite young, you can see how shes slowly finding her voice. The second one also has less direct adaptations (as rar as i could tell)

    Why does it matter if it's classified as Young Adult? If parents want to buy certifiably safe books for their kids, they shouldn't be buying from an adult marketing label. That's on parents not authors, bookshops, or the publishing industry.

  • @itsbritneybisch8552

    Harry wanting to control how he is "portrayed" in the media is a manifestation of his insecurities when he was a child and being told he was "less than" his brother. His own mother said on TV and other media outlets that Harry is the "spare" and he isn't smart enough to go to a normal school. Diana was always quick to praise William and to say that she wants to protect William's future. Harry, on the other hand, was always sidelined. Not saying this to defend Harry because he's definitely old enough to work through those insecurities. Just saying that the media is mostly reporting from Harry's own actions.

    • @MaliKamicak
      @MaliKamicak 7 місяців тому

      And yet, he doesn't see Diana's role in any of it. For all that she wanted for her sons to be treated the same, she didn't quit act like it.

    I am obviously late to this, but I just wanted to commend you on this wonderful, insightful review! Especially since you were able to explain Harry’s mindset from your own experience. I agree 100% with your assessment on Harry’s relationship with William and his total disregard for William’s feelings, struggles, and the weight of expectations on his shoulders. Harry expects William to always give him what he needed at all times because he’s damaged and vulnerable because his mum died, but forgets that William also lost his mum. He starts a fight with William and Charles at Prince Philip’s funeral by making demands about his “Megxit” conditions and then berates them for not engaging with him, completely ignoring the fact that they had literally just buried their beloved father/grandfather.

    Thank you for this, but firstly thank you for your approach to the subject. I also tried to read it as a book, without outside inputs (as much as it was possible). My conclusion is that many of the things that were said to Harry (especially by William) he didn't understand at all. And also, I don't think Harry understands it (I wonder if the ghost writer does) that that 2 "fight" scenes with William are just William being desperate to reach towards Harry. I read it as such. And I don't think I'm wrong about it. And thank you for pointing William's strugle. I also didn't find William jelous of Harry's achivements but of Harry's freedom.

    What is Harry talking about that Catherine wasn't harassed by the media because she was going to be the future Queen? She was mercilessly harassed by the paparazzi and called absolutely vile names to try and get a reaction out of her. The media absolutely annihilated her, and they still do when it suits them. Meghan got a relatively easy ride in comparison to Diana, Camilla, and Catherine. She was welcomed with open arms, and the criticism only came after it became obvious that she didn't care to follow royal protocols and that she was rude and was being a bully to staff. Meghan was never harassed by the paparazzi either. They just weren't that interested in her. In fact, there have been people who work in the media who have stated that the royal family never leaked anything and that once Meghan arrived, the leaks started coming thick and fast. Harry's completely blind to Meghan's machinations. It's absolutely astounding to me that he can't see what an operator she is. Diana is actually the one who called Harry the spare, not Charles. It's also untrue that Charles and Camilla asked Catherine to change her name to Catherine with a K because there were too many C's. Harry truly is seriously mentally ill. It's actually frightening to see the level of his delusion. He needs to get himself into long-term in-patient drug and psychiatric treatment.
