Trying to put a mockup for an oval shaped object, created the outline and the smart object but when I upload the image that is supposed to go on it, it does not take the outlined area.. the image is rectangular

Hi, when I open an image and use the rectangle tool it doesn't create a black box with option to convert to smart object; it just creates a rectangular outline? Is this a setting I need to change? Thank you

After i put my design under the layer I can't move it , while im using the move tool

This is interesting. However, the logo no longer has its sharp lines around the edges. In fact it doesn't even look like the same logo. So if someone bought that shirt they'd be getting a shirt that actually looks different from the mock up than what they would receive.
