SEA TROUT FISHING NORTH UIST. LAST DAY OF 2021 SEASON

Well what can i say, the last day of the season is always filled with mixed emotion. the excitement in the morning to go and catch the last fish of the season to the sadness at the end when you realise you have to pack the rod away again. This wasnt my best day, i only had 3 hours tops to fish in between shifts at work so i only managed one brown trout. however the gentleman you see here manage...

You should keep the fish in the water as much as possible ...your video camera is showing the fish without the need to have it flapping about on the bank like that while you try to photograph it....respect your quarry, and give it the best chance of survival if you plan to return the fish....

Hi Dan... thanks for the comment and I respect it... the feeling is mutual. On this particular day however I wasn't planning to be fishing. Bit of a late rush for the run of fish. And in a rush I forgot my net. You will see this season when I post videos that this is not my normal handling of fish. I am actually a ghilly and bailiff for the estate so I try my best to protect what I have. The video doesn't show clearly but this is actually on a very steep bank with a near vertical drop into the water. Usually I would try and dehook in the water. But on this particular bank it is almost impossible. Thanks for the comment and hope you enjoy my further videos

Hi Neil. i almost always use a #7 i tend to find that 6 is to light in the high winds and an 8 is to heavy when presenting the fly on the water. a seven seems to be the right balance for me

Brilliant stuff, this makes me long to get out to the western Isles again! I did a similar you tube vid last August in mull, on a sea loch.( soul trader 57) Just subbed, look forward to watching the others. One advisory note - I'd be inclined to use a big landing net, and unhook /release in the water if its going back! It's easy to forget in the heat of the moment! I've stopped using phone photos now, it's really easy to take a still from the headcam vid, and saves all the faffing about while the fish is gasping! Good luck with your channel 👍 Just

sorry for late reply. i do agree, tbh i never handle fish like this, i always have a net with me but this was a bit of a gamble to fish here and was only planning a quick cast before moving to another beat and so i forgot my net. typical
