Lake Simtustus Boat Ramp Launch @ Pelton Park Campground PGE | Kayaking | Madras Central Oregon | 4K
This Video captures the Lake Simtustus Boat Ramp Launch at Pelton Park Campground (PGE) as well as an off Trail Overlook View of Lake Simtustus!
Lake Simtustus is NE of The Cove Palisades State Park, easily a Top 3 State Park in the entire State of Oregon! Lake Billy Chinook's claim to fame is that its the confluence of 3 National Wild & Scenic Rivers - Crooked River, Deschutes River & Metolius River into a truly EPIC Lake-River-Canyon High Desert Wonderland! Thus this multi-tendrilled Lake is broken up into the Crooked River Arm, Deschutes River Arm & Metolius River Arm, each with its own very well developed infrastructure of Day Use Areas, Boat Ramp/Launches and very well groomed & manicured Shoreline Hiking Trails. Lake Billy Chinook is truly a World-Class Watersport Mecca of Boating, Fishing & Kayaking.
The road is very well paved throughout The Cove Palisades State Park and all the way through to Perry South Campground. From Perry South Campground to Monty Campground it is a relatively bumpy Forest Road - most cars should be able to make it if you drive slowly and cautiously, particularly around some blind corners on a very steep road, so exercise maximum caution driving to Monty Campground! That said, if done prudently, it is not a difficult drive, high clearance and 4WD are NOT required in my humble opinion. Always check for weather and of course do so at your own risk!

    Love your style of videos... they are terrific !! You are an excellent ambassador for the area and "getting out there" :-) Broken Top "is" by far the most "rewarding" hike of all of Central Oregon. My two cents: #1 Save your vehicle and hike from Todd Lake. The first time we drove all the way to the Broken Top TH, thinking we were saving time. When we passed Todd Lake, a father and daughter were just getting on trail. They did not appear to be seasoned hikers, looked to be very out of shape, (no judgement intended) after we had been up to the saddle @ 8200' and we were descending down the short rocky part from No Name Lake, they were just coming up. We were stunned, thinking they were 2 mi behind us, but - we had had to drive so slow on the two track from Todd Lake up to the Broken Top TH, as the road was so horrible, they obviously made better time. The second time I hiked it, I left from Todd Lake, and it literally took the same amount of time to hike up from Todd Lake, as it had before to drive to Broken Top TH, hike up and back to the TH and then drive down to Todd Lake. So you might as well leave from Todd Lake and save the wear n tear on your rig. #2 If it's overcast or rainy, save the hike. If you want to see the gorgeous colors that makes it this most rewarding hike, wait for a pristine sunny day. #3 Plan your hike so that you arrive at No Name Lake and the shoreline trail before 1PM on a sunny day. Otherwise the sun is behind Broken Top's peaks and you miss out on the incredible colors of the mountain and their reflection, since the sun will be behind them peaks and they'll be shaded.

    • @TrailPerspectiv
      @TrailPerspectiv 13 днів тому

      Thank you SO MUCH, I really appreciate it! I agree with your assessment of the area, Todd Trailhead > Broken Top Trailhead, otherwise a lot of pristine serene Three Sisters Wilderness gets missed which is worth the longer mileage! Also yes save your car indeed!
