Amy Manford -Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again - Phantom of the Opera
Absolutely blessed to have seen the divine Amy Manford as Christine Daae along with talented Ben Lewis & Jeremy Taylor in Phantom of the Opera on the West end. Definitely one of the best Christines I have seen over the years! We went on a Friday night but I think she performs 2 or 3 nights a week ....Sorry about the bad quality...at least you can hear her

can someone explain to me why so many people think this type of singing is better than the movie? i don’t mean to seem critical of people’s preferences, i’m just trying to understand. when i listen to any of the stage performances, i hear so many false notes, and it’s difficult to listen to because while they sing with a lot of emotion, it seems to me that it’s too much because it gets in the way of them hitting the right notes. to me, the movie is so much more pleasant to listen to. and while i can understand why so many people say that the acting and singing didn’t have enough emotion, i would personally much rather listen to that over this, where it seems to me that the actors don’t put enough effort to sing with emotion AND make it sound pleasant.
While I don't hear any of the false notes that you're referring to, I think that the biggest difference of the singing between the movie and the musical is the style. In the musical the singing is more operatic, there is a much bigger focus on projection and - how I hear it - the use of vibrato. In the movie on the other hand, the style is - how I would describe it - more pop sounding. Much less vibrato, a different choice of how to pronounce the vowels. They could use a prerecording and adjust volume of both voice and music in the after production. (That is not to say that they don't use any technical stuff in the musical too, the actors are wearing mics and the title song is prerecorded.) Having seen the movie first, it will always be my favourite. But while the style is different, the musical is lovely and there are some amazing actors/singers out there whose performances have made it to my playlists.
I used to think this. I saw the movie first and always preferred the singers/actors in that. Since seeing the show a few times and being able to play the role of Christine myself, it’s all about perspective - voices, facial expressions, movement needs to be so much bigger onstage to make sure that every audience member can see/hear you. This isn’t the case in a movie. Everything onstage has to be a bigger projection. Though I totally get your preference, these performers are just projecting ☺️ if you listen to Amy Manford sing in front of a camera, it’s a lot more like the style you prefer. She has an outstanding tone to her voice, very emotional and personal 👏🏼
Because they’re actually singers?
That’s just more operatic… which is more expressive
I saw Amy as Christine in Sydney last October - and been obsessed with her voice ever since! Such an outstanding Christine! 🤍🤍🙏🏻
saw her in melbourne last week and i am absolutely obssessed with her voice!!
Amy is such a babe wowwww. And ohh ya her voice is incredible too!
Emmy Rossum was such a angel in the film version.
No one tops Sarah Brightman.
His parts before “too long(..)” could be softer
Whoa, haven't seen this! Thanks so much.
Ben is singing high here.
so sad to hear she’s leaving phantom in september :( best Christine in my opinion!
I’m leaving phantom of the opera concert At my house on the first of October I’m a fully trained natural high soprano
She sounds like Sierra OMG
She has a sweeter,m less mature note to her voice than Sierra (they're both outstanding!) but I think it lends Amy her own take/interpretation and spin on Christine that's totally separate from Sierra's.
@@blissinchains Totally agree, I don't think she sounds much like Sierra at all - Amy sounds more youthful and vulnerable.
nothing beats the movie
Gigi Parker literally no
In which nobody can sing? I suppose when hearing actual talent, it must seem on a different level.
Of course no. The original Show is better with live singing.
Like everything does beat the movie lol
Maybe is they had used Ben Lewis it would have been except able
There are moments when she sounds very much like Sierra Boggess. Especially in the beginning.
epins 84 Amy’s my favourite Christine and sierra’s my second favourite so I guess you could say I have a type sbskdbdkdb
5:57 that scene is amazinggggg
If you happen to have the full show, you are the angel of my life
I got chills, very nice!
PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have a video recording of Ben Lewis' MOTN
Amy is a wonderful Christine! Thank you so very much for sharing. This entire new cast seems absolutely superb. Everybody who will be in attendance should cherish the experience. :)
Silver54ful I think Ben Lewis is a heldentenor. He's really loud.
TheMsiaddict- Ben Lewis has proclaimed he is a baritone. You think that he mis-classified his own voice? Not to say it has never happened before. Broadway star Kelli O'Hara once cited herself as a Coloratura soprano. When a fan asked her at the stage door of one of her shows about being closer to a Lyric soprano. Ms.O'Hara started analyzing her own voice. She later admitted her voice had in fact developed from a Coloratura (what is was in her university years) to a Full Lyric.
Silver54ful He sings the high version chorus, but interestingly he chose low "angel" in the end. His voice is like Lauritz Melchior's. Melchior started as a baritone too. The less known performer that has similar voice is Matt Cammelle. His brother, Alexander Lewis was a lyric baritone, now he's a lyric tenor. Ben himself said that there's no danger that his voice would be changed like his brother's.
Could you upload theme song and MOTN, please....
Ben Lewis....wow, can't explain it. Outstanding. Amy Manford and Jeremy Taylor great
