The man who UPGRADED Spider-Man
WELCOME BACK TO CAN THEY SPIDER-MAN! In Ep.2 we’re talking about the LEGEND JAZZY JOHN ROMITA SR! An artist who worked in the comic industry for decades and most known for being Spider-Man’s 2 official on going artist! He’s also regarded as the BEST SPIDER-MAN artist to some and the DEFINITIVE SPIDER-MAN artist to even more! I give a little back history on his time with MARVEL COMICS and working with STAN LEE, primarily in the silver age of comics! If you’re a fan of Spider-Man and more specifically Spider-Man comics, you’ve definitely recognized Romita’s work! His artwork is absolutely brilliant and is one of the biggest reasons Spider-Man became so popular and eventually the FACE of MARVEL COMICS and heck, I would say ALL SUPERHERO COMICS! That’s just me though! Hope you enjoy! #marvel #spiderman #spidermanart #johnromita #johnromitaspiderman #stanlee #silverage

THE REAL REASON FOR SPIDER-MAN’S SUCCESS

In my UA-cam long form debut I bring you CAN THEY SPIDER-MAN! A series where I analyze artist who have drawn Spider-Man, whether it be on a published comic or if it’s for fun! Episode 1 starts with the man who started it all, Steve Ditko! The original Spider-Man artist, I look at what made his Spidey so great and the influence he would leave for the iconic MARVEL character! Diving into the silv...
I grew up reading these books in the 70s and still have them...that issue with spidey and doc strange was mindblowing for me back then. 😂
@@willcarr9401 that’s amazing! I’m glad to hear you still have that part of history!
Who came after Romita?
@@AaronPablos-ll3vk there was was a few in and out a couple issues but the next one that was a MAIN artist was John Bucsema. Correct me if I’m wrong!
My three favorite Spider-Man artists are John, Todd McFarlane and Mark Bagley.
@@jojo-anthony5265 that’s a GREAT list! I’ll have videos on Mcfarlane and Bagley soon so hope you stick around and sub 🙏🏽
I like Spider-Man
@@BiteSizedComics-db1bc spider-man likes you too
Great video! Don't forget to credit the inkers when talking about the brushwork on the monthly titles, though! - Your Friendly Neighborhood Comics Pro
Thank you! With Romita specifically I definitely could’ve gone more I depth with the process he went through. But most of the time Romita was inking his own work. Hence his style dealing with darker and bolder blacks. There was also a period where between him and other creators he would do the pencil layouts, someone would ink, and then someone else do the finishes. But it would be mainly out as art by Romita. A lot of the same things happened during Jim Lees time with X-Men.
Great comment! But let's also not forget to credit the letterers too! Or maybe, we realize there's always room for more conversation and just appreciate the video for what it is. -you friendly comic review guy
@ the difference is, he actively referred to the inks, in the video, and not the letters. And the issues drawn by Romita were almost all inked by someone else.
@@gavin_guidry like I said most of the time with the research I did Romita was doing his own inks. Regardless though I TOTALLY see where you’re coming from and I’ll take this tip into next video! But also the series is to focused on the main art contributor so pencils and layouts as THATS who the video is about. Again though I know you’re just giving feedback and not complaining so I hope you stick around for the next one and subscribe 🙏🏽
@ looking forward to the video on Gil Kane!
John Romita Sr. is probably my favorite Spider-Man artist.
Great video🔥
@@niekochamkina3912 thank you!
Spider-man artwork is my favorite of course!! Still think the Todd father will always be my favorite!!
That’s a good pick! I’ll be covering him soon 🙏🏽
Loved the JrSr video and now I love this!
Can’t question the genius of a design that can’t be duplicated or changed to make better for 60 plus years.
can’t wait to hear you talk about JRJR
@@TheMerc15 imma go crazy for that one 🙏🏽
I told you i would watch it
@Kallakig 🙏🏽
Here and seated. As someone who isn’t the best at breaking down and taking about artwork, I always appreciate videos like this
Thank you brother, that really means a lot 🥹
Bro, JrSr is so goat'd its not even funny. He DONT miss!
My Fave UA-camr just dropped another banger! 😊❤
Good video, on a side note, Ditko did all the inking on that series. As far as lines getting thicker, that may be due to reprinting, as Marvel always made new stats from the old stats whenever they reprinted a book, don't know why. If you look at an original copy, it may look different.
Steve Dikto for me is the true creator of Spidey...
What is her career? And does she have a sister?
@@bobbyblazini 😂
@DozComicz you need a butler?

Ditko was a comic book genius. All that wordy stuff you aligned with him was Stan Lee as lee was a hack and frustrated prose writer. Those issues in the 30's that you talk about were written by Ditko due to him and Lee falling out until Ditko walked away. His two main creations for marvel, Spiderman and Dr Strange, are the two most unique and interesting creatings Marvel had in the 60's, yes, even above Kirbys brilliant contributions. Ditkos charcaters were weird, almost pop horror characters, his take on Spiderman/Peter Parker was the most unique version in both drawn design and writting, flawed, frustrated, errie, human, and the rough edges that made him so interesting have been smoothed down over the years and were lost pretty much the moment he left. Ditko defined 90% of what is most important and remembered about the character with most of it being done within a few pages in Amazing Fantasy 15.
@@MWP12 ay man that’s why titled the video the way I did! I totally agree with you
Steve Ditko brought life to Spider-Man,John Romita made him Iconic

Thank you so much 🥹
@DozComicz you're very welcome
@DozComicz I love spider man and Stan Lee is my inspiration to become a writer
Love Ditko. He was a master
One of the GOATS!
Wow what a spider man king right here 🎉
Happy you shouted out Annual #2 I’ve always been really drawn to that issue ever since my first read through of the original run
It’s so good 😮💨
I was always a little mixed on Ditko, until I started editing together recaps of his comics and having to pay attention to the panels. No-one draws hands like Ditko, and his clothing work is spectacular.
Yes!! He really has a style you gotta dive into for full enjoyment!
Yeah okay, im stroking it
Best character spidey on top! I think all the Ditko drama was crazy to read about. Hope you had an amazing day homie!
Appreciate the support, brother 🙏🏽
I quite enjoyed this video
Thank you 🥹
LETS GOOO BABY

Omnibus?
Comic books that are printed as hardbacks and collected in large format volumes. He has multiple omnibuses on the bookshelf
You are correct, Spiderman is better.
I'm excited for Predator Omnibus Volume 3
How do I get a deal at opb 😂
can speedsters not create lightning? Or am I thinking of DC speedsters? Couldn't they just find a way to shape the lightning into a weapon? And since this weapon is made from lightning FROM the speedforce, would it not be able to withstand the speed? I still feel like I'm talking about DC though... not sure
I used to love GL as a kid. I got like 50 or 60 comics in the series but gave up after and it ruined super hero comics. Some were great but they KEPT bringing up his origin. It got so over played I lost interest in any normal DC or Marvel comics. I switched to more mature and crime nior style
Did they keep rebooting him or something? I can see why they'd bring it up if they do but that's another silly thing about comics. They somehow keeps using the same character but changing 1 little thing about it- maybe not even lol Makes it hard to follow which one connects to which, for me at least.
Continue great work
Very Nice

It was one of my favorite panels during that run even if it was just total fan-service.
